Just a note: The FFXIV Character Creator is not exactly the most expansive thing to ever hit an MMO. Sometimes folks will have characters that look vaguely similar to another person’s character. While I’m sure copying does happen on occasion - most of the time, it probably just means you guys have similar tastes.

Just an add-on: If an artist draws a character who seems similar to yours, don’t harass the artist.

I am not speaking of any past public issues (if you think of someone specific, forget about them instantly), but something which happened to a friend of mine not long ago. They drew a character with a pretty common color palette for a commission and had been blamed in private, accused to draw a “stolen” character appearance. Since they were the one who picked the palette without even knowing the supposedly stolen character, they stood for their client. Soon after the artist began to receive a considerable amount of hateful anon pm saying their art was crap and they shouldn’t be allowed to draw and other stuff like that, until they eventually deleted their blog and left tumblr as they couldn’t stand the harassment anymore (anon was/were blocked but they would constantly come back with alt accounts to continue the hate). Of course, it is unsure if both events are related but the timing was quite ugly and the artist never received such anon hate pm before.

So, the moral of this is if you think that someone is copying your character and if it really is a problem to you, solve this in private with the person who caused the problem and don’t involve anybody else.
