wolfgangarcturus:
Oh, hell yes!
He sauntered indolently towards her, arms hanging loosely at his sides. His belly twitched like he was standing at the edge of very steep drop and knew that if he leaped off, there was a chance he wouldn’t survive the impact. While they’ve agreed to no killing, she had proven before that she could and would use subterfuge to get close to a blood king and kill him in front of his court, parley or not.
His stance changed in an instant, shoulders rising, head dropping and hands rising to protect his face, elbows in to be able to protect vulnerable sides. He skipped forward, keeping knees bent as he bounced on his feet. His eyes scanned her stance, looking for clues that presaged a particular blow or grapple attack but she hid it behind a neutral stance.
Fuck it.
He rushed her, throwing a flurry of jabs and crosses to attempt to get her to put up her defenses, maybe exploit an opening to get a grip on her. If he could get a joint lock or a choke hold, make her tap out, he’d be celebrating for days, but somehow he didn’t think it was going to be that easy.

And here stands her choices: she could fight and win or let him think he’s won the little battle and allow his ego to grow a little more. She knows he’s a formidable opponent, Venera isn’t forgetful that this man is not only the Monarch of an entire race, but earned it in combat against his brothers. She thinks about messing with him, never raising her own fists or fighting against him, only dancing around his jabs, but what good would that do?
His movements are quick but he’s large, Venera is able to dodge most of the jabs coming her direction. She doesn’t return the gesture, only backs them around in a loose circle as she moves away from his blows or deflects them to the side. A few land, of course, and she knows if she could bruise she’d be blue for days. She never changes from a neutral expression, save for a few smirks when his hits land a little harder than she expected.
“Tell me,” she whispered, barely above the noise of the crowd but his spectacular hearing should pick up her words no problem. “When you’re defeated, eventually, who do you think will take the throne from you? If there is one left after all.” Careful to pay attention more to his movements than any reaction, the Upyr dodges to the side and puts distance between herself and the King.
She’s confident enough in her own abilities that she doesn’t fear the lack of weapons, preferring instead that they fight bare handed like this. For most it might show good faith in the other species but for these two, Venera knows it’s personal for him. Her hands were the reason for the first Blood King’s death, she was the sole reason Wolfgang was now without his father. She knows eventually she will face him again for the acts committed but for now, they dance.
And she waits for him to close distance again. Hoping his anger or ego or both would cloud his judgement and loosen his rigid stances, the General guesses that if she plays with him just long enough he’ll crack. She doesn’t need him broken, no- just ever so slightly shaken.
