Byrd is a subsidiary of Spyderco and the Spyderco influence will be apparent to anyone handling the Cara Cara 2. Many distinctive features of Spyderco knives are included in the knife, including the FRN handle, thumbhole, and distinctive blade shape. The first generation Cara Cara was an excellent and this one is even better. The Byrd Cara Cara 2 is a great knife at an affordable price.

In 2010, big-time knife manufacturer Benchmade acquired Wilsonville, Oregon’s Lone Wolf Knives. Lone Wolf specializes in designing and producing knives for serious outdoorsman. The Lone Wolf Swale is an outdoor knife with a classic old-school look. I’d never used a Lone Wolf knife before but after experiencing the Swale I’ll definitely try them again.

I’ve got to hand it to Ka-bar, the Zombie Killer line was a brilliant idea. With the incredible popularity of zombie films, TV shows, and books someone was going to capitalize on the pressing need for zombie home defense weapons and Ka-bar struck first. While the idea is funny and cool, I wanted to know if the actual knives were any good. So I took the Zombie Killer Famine Tanto into the woods and subjected it to a series of punishing tests. After all, if you trust a weapon to save you when the zombie apocalypse comes, you better make sure it actually works.

Smith and Wesson is world famous for their firearms but they now offer a line of knives too, through Taylor Brands a knife manufacturer out of Kingsport, TN that also makes knives under the Schrade label. The Border Guard 2 Rescue Knife is one of their go-to models and with the Smith and Wesson label on it I expected it to be a solid performer. I put the Border Guard 2 through a battery of tests over the past month; let’s see how it stacked up.

If you're a knife lover like me, chances are you've heard of Ken Onion before. Ken is an award winning custom knife maker and a member of Blade Magazine's Cutlery Hall of Fame. Ken has worked with a number of different knife makers but he's probably best known for his collaboration with Kershaw knives and the invention of the "SpeedSafe" assisted opening system. The Kershaw Chive is his brain child and comes equipped with the SpeedSafe opening system. This is the smallest of Kershaw's Ken Onion knives and one of the best.

Bear & Son Cutlery® claims their mission is the manufacturing of the "best knives made in the USA". Bear and Son Cutlery recently introduced a new division called Bear OPS™, and it’s a Bear Ops knife that I’ll be looking at today. The Bear Ops Manual Controlled MC-100-B7-P is a beefy outdoors/camping knife, that looks like it could stand up to heavy punishment. I haven’t had time to take the knife on an actual camping trip, so instead I decided to put the knife through a series of heavy duty test in the backyard to find out if the MC-100-B7-P is as tough as it looks.

The Kershaw Blur has been around for awhile and is one of Kershaw’s most popular models. Anyone who has owned one can tell you why; it’s a really well designed knife. The Blur is a design from legendary knifemaker Ken Onion and features SpeedSafe assisted opening system and Trac-Tec inserts for the grip. While there are many different variations of the Blur out there, mine is the basic 1670RD model, so that’s the one I’ll be reviewing today.

It’s been awhile since I’ve reviewed a dedicated camping knife, so today I thought we’d take a look at the Tool Logic SLPro Fire Starter SLP2. It’s a cool little knife with a number of unique features. You get knife, flashlight, whistle, and firestarter all rolled into one. Basically, all you’ll need in an survival knife in one compact package.

Smith & Wesson is famous for there guns but they also produce a line of knives as well… or do they? All knives you see under the names Smith & Wesson or Schrade are actually made and distributed by Taylor Brands, a Kingsport, TN based knifemaker (not that there is anything wrong with that). Today we’ll be looking at their Military & Police SWMP1BS (I specify the model number because the M&P’s come in a variety of styles). It’s a cool looking blade, with a handle made to resemble a Smith & Wesson gun, but is it any good? Let’s find out.

With over 20 years of production encompassing three generations, the Spyderco Police has been one the longest running Spyderco models. The earlier models of the Police were exceptional EDC knives and the third generation continues that legacy. Some may like to view the Police 3 as an extra large version of the Endura, but I feel like it is more than that. The knife has amazing blade to handle ratio.

Spyderco, as with most knife manufacturers, has collaborated with individual designers over the years to produce some exclusive knives; the Leaf Storm is an example of this. A graphic designer turned knife designer, Kevin Wilkins banded together with Spyderco to create a small, EDC knife that aims to have the versatility of a larger knife in a small package. I am going to start off by saying I am still undecided about this knife. It has some really great attributes and some that need improvement. After seeing the original design, I was practically drooling over the knife but when it came in the mail, I started to question my choice.

The Buck Vantage Pro is one of those knives that you will feel you are getting your money’s worth out of. There are pros and cons to all knives, and the Vantage Pro is no exception, but rarely do you come across such a good quality knife at such an affordable price. There are a few variations on the Buck Vantage series of knives: the Vantage Select, Vantage Pro, Vantage Avid, and Vantage Force, but today we’ll be looking at the Pro. Now...onto the review.

The Spyderco Native lightweight is one of a series of really nicely designed folding blade knives. The Native is all about blending form, function, and feel to make a very reliable and useful knife that is capable of everyday use. I want to say that Spyderco is about 80% of the way there. Spyderco has come up with a lightweight (only 2.65 ounces), yet EDC capable knife, but with some sacrifices to keep the blade affordable.

There is a little history and a lot of character behind the Syderco Harpy folding blade. You may have seen it before, perhaps in the hands of Hannibal Lecter in the infamous movie, or in the hands of a person with a career in nautical service since it is a very effective and practical maritime knife. The special shape of the blade (hawkbill) is effective at withstanding the rigors and tests of the marine and fishing industry since the curved tip down blade is able to cut nets, fishing line, and webbing effortlessly.

The Spyderco P’Kal is a one of a kind knife. As a collaboration between Shivworks and Spyderco, the P’Kal is based from Filipino martial arts and primarily serves as a self defense tool. This is definitely one of those knives that any collector would be thrilled to have in their collection just for its unique design. But for those who are really into self-defense, the Spyderco P’Kal is the ultimate weapon. The literal translation of the Filipino word “Pikal” is “to rip,” and the design between Spyderco and Shivworks does just that. As a self-defense tool, Pikal is wielded using a reverse grip with the sharpened edge facing inward toward the user. Pikal is designed for rapidly and effectively striking and surprising your opponent.
