The thing that amazes me is that he calculated the riptide and went right to the spot the person in trouble was going to be. The knowledge he shows is amazing. The way he lays down with them just under where that wave is going to crest. Then he stands them up just in time for that massive wave that smashes them forward (and almost quadruples the number of people who need rescuing). It just looks like random churning to us, but it seems to make perfect sense to him.
