"oh, that house sold." lena muttered to herself, her eyes landing on the bright "SOLD" sign that now adorned the front yard. for three months, magdalena had walked by this beautiful house, with the ornate roof and clean white paint job. she marveled at how stately, yet homey it was--it commanded respect but she knew you could have a good kitchen dance party in there as well. it felt unique and warm, and--well, perhaps in a way to help her settle into her new life--she had made goal that maybe she'd be the owner of that house one day. it was just as unlikely now as it was then--perhaps more so as it was off the market. but, as most things went recently...it was not to be.
it was tuesday and that meant lena had the day off and also that her fridge was in major need of some improvements. she knew it would be smarter to drive--but for a small town, traffic was terrible and besides, she could use the fresh air. she wasn't used to the chill in the air, but she had loved how walkable miami had been and missed the ease of movement in the area. so perhaps, it was time to make her movement easier too. not everything could remind of her her past, but this seemed banal enough.
"ooh, peaches are on sale." a grilled peach sounded delicious--the smoky char and the sweet sugar was a perfect combination. huh, another opposites attract moment. she bit her lip, fighting the urge to think of her own opposites moment. putting the peach down, she reached for the jar of pasta sauce, on sale right next to her. she had fallen for the marketing trap, she knew--but the colors just looked so vibrant together. inspecting the jar, she turned it around, making sure the item was still in date (it never hurt to check). out of the corner of her eye though--she saw what had to be an illusion. a trick of her mind. because no way was....in juniper? the farthest place she could find? no...it couldn't be...
CRACK!
suddenly, the jar she had been holding feel straight to the ground and splattered everywhere. dropping to her knees, she bit her lip. "pinga, estoy en candela."
kolton had just recently got into town. from all the work of moving into his new house and setting up his new office he was completely exhausted. the whole first week was spent buying all new furniture and new material things. a lot of take out which as someone who tend to eat healthier this fast food was making him feel god awful. it was time to head to the store and get some actual food to cook for the week.
still unsure about all the places around town he had headed to the only one he had been to since he had moved in. when he parked his car in the parking lot he looked around in the stack of papers on his seat looking for his list. "shit." he groaned when noticed he wasnt there. kolt had always been a list maker. everything he done or was going to do he had to make some type of list of it to keep him on track. instantly his anxiety was already peaked now noticing something had happened to his list. "great." he murmured as he killed the engine and got out of the car with a sigh. "i guess ill just try to shop from memory." now he was talking to himself? the last thing he needed was for the people in town to think the new physiatrist needed help.
grabbing the shopping cart he had began to go down the aisles doing his best to figure out what he was needed and what he had even planned to make that week. he was so caught up in his own thoughts until he heard the loud crash. pulling his attention over to where the sound came from his breath was taken from his lungs. jesus christ. of course he was expecting to see her, hell he had been chasing after her since the moment she walked out of their front door. yet now that he saw her he wasnt even sure what the hell he was going to say. his list... it would have been a lot easier if he had his list of points he wanted to talk to her about.
instead it was just him, his shopping cart and a few fresh veggies. it wasn't like he could just turn around and walk away. she was the whole reason he was here after all. rocking on his feet he pushed himself off and headed over to her, searching for the things to say to her on the short stride over to her. "lena.." was all he could get out of his lips at first.
