I completely agree with you that MLB2K and all sports games for that matter are Paidea. In all of the sports games it is actually impossible to beat the game. You can beat other teams but you are not beating the game itself. There are also specific rules you have to follow. The point of these types of video games is for pure enjoyment! I enjoyed reading your blog and agree with every aspect.

Bad Luck Brian is an "image macro series featuring a picture of a blonde teenage boy wearing a plaid sweater vest and braces, accompanied by captions that describe a variety of embarrassing and tragic consequences". This picture of the teenage boy first appeared on Reddit.com, a "social news aggregation" that ranks content based on a scoring system determined by user votes" (knowyourmeme.com). His real name is actually Kyle and the picture was from when he was in seventh grade and taking a school picture. This meme became popular in the first months of 2012 and is still a very popular meme used today. I think this particular meme became so popular so fast because of the "stereotype" of nerdy or geeky people. The face he is making, the sweater he is wearing, and the braces he has makes for a hilarious picture. It is so easy to come up with a meme feasting an unfortunate or tragic situation to go along with his picture. I believe that memes in general can be used for more than just entertainment; although that is what they are used for a majority of the time. Memes can be used to make popular news stories or people known. For example, when the whole Kony thing happened they were so many mens about the whole Kony situation that actually brought a lot of people's attention to it.

The Fandom I chose was the very famous Harry Potter. I chose Harry Potter because I really enjoy all of the movies. I became a Harry Potter fan the second I started reading the very first book. I enjoy the books more, but the movies are still excellent! I even played the Harry Potter video games, which weren't well made at; but being a fan I thought I would just try it out. I think the game quiditch is such a fun and exciting game. I also really enjoy magic and all the special effects in the movies. I chose to draw Harry Potter, Hedwig (his owl), Ron, and Hermione. I chose these four characters because they are play a very crucial role. They are all equally important to each other and make up the best team ever. They have all saved each other's lives on multiple occasions and are extremely loyal to each other. All of their personalities are very unique and add a special variety to their group. After completing this very skilled and masterful piece of art I do feel like more of a fan. This is the first time I have actually drawn characters from a movie. After spending time researching and drawing pictures of them I feel more accomplished as a Harry Potter fan.

Internet Privacy?!

"Free services in exchange for personal information. That’s the 'privacy bargain' we all strike on the Web. It could be the worst deal ever"  (Doctorow). In this article Cory Doctorow suggests that interent users trade their privacy for services. When using the internet or downloading a new application we always see the "I agree to these terms and conditions" followed by countless pages of tiny font that you couldn't read with a magnify glass. Now, if you are like me and 99% of all other people who use the internet you automatically click the "I agree to these terms and conditions" box and continue downloading and using the application. Even if I were to read the entire "terms and conditions" I would most likely have no idea what the hell they even mean. I thought this was extemely interesting: "What we agree to participate in on the Internet isn’t a negotiated trade; it’s a smorgasbord, and intimate facts of your life (your location, your interests, your friends) are the buffet" (Doctorow). With just the click of the "I accpt" button we automatically sign away all of our personal information to the internet. I think this is absolutely absurd that we have to agree to this! Now of course we do not "have" to agree to this, but if we do not then we can use the product!

Net Neutrality

Companies offering broadband access should not be allowed to discriminate among services online. If they did, the best service would not always win the day. “It’s not who has a better product,” he explained. “It’s who can make a deal with AT&T, Verizon, Comcast or Time Warner.” (Tim Wu)

Tim Wu is talking about net neutrality. This is the principle that Internet service providers should treat all data on the internet equally and not discriminate by content, site or application. AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, and Time Warner all offer different packages and deals for their services. They should not be allowed to offer specific deals that do not allow their customer certain options just because they use a different system. 

Should net neutrality be strictly enforced for all companies?

Struggle!!!

For this mission I did not use my phone, internet, or xbox 360 for an entire day! This mission was A LOT harder than it sounds. Although my phone was off the entire day I still (for some reason) carried my phone everywhere I went with me. I would find myself still reaching for my phone to check the time. The worst was when I actually thought I felt my phone vibrate as if I got a text message or facebook alert. This is what I like to call the "phantom vibrate".  I usually check my phone for everything :Facebook, Words with Friends, texting, calls, internet, YouTube, etc. Another extremely difficult aspect of this mission was not being able to play my xbox 360, especially since I just got it. I had a brand new console and xbox games just sitting in front of me and I was not able to play any of them. Another very difficult aspect of this mission was not being able to use my GPS on my phone, since I am not from here. I had to go to my Uncle's house on the North Shore with my girlfriend (who is from here) and did not use my GPS. I called my Uncle before I left to get directions and told my girlfriend not to tell me where to go at all! Needless to say I got lost for about fifteen minutes which was very frustrating, especially to her, because she knew I was going the wrong way and still did not ay anything to me. 

Although this was an extremely difficult challenge, it was very very nice to get away from technology. No annoying advertisements, no pestering friends always texting you, no calls from my parents asking if I am staying on top of all of my schoolwork and everything. 

I still do not understand how people can go for a long period of time without using their phone, interent, or even television. This was definitely an eye-opening experience for me. It made me realize how much I take technology for granted.

Sports and Politics

I think that politics in sports is the biggest B.S. ever!!!! Sports teams are about chemistry and skill and what you as an individual can contribute to that team. It's not about what your home town is or how much money your family donates to the school or organization. It crappy coaches who are unqualified and big headed that are ruining sports around the world. In club voleyball I had to deal with this. The director of the club was family friends with the parents of one of the players on my team and e just happened to play the same posiition as me. He started over me solely because of this reason. His skills and teamness was not even comparable and the worst part was that everyone knew it, even the kid himself. Im over politics in sports.

Video Games... wasting time??

In class we watched a video about how much time and money people are using towards online video and computer games. I think that people are spending way too much time playing these games online. They should be outside doing something active or working. I use to play a lot of Madden and NBA on my Xbox 360 and I would spend hours and hours playing these games. I look back now and ask myself what if I went for a run or workied out or even went and got a job instead of playing all those video games? I would probably have an 8 pack and be shredded of muscles or have a lot more money than I did now. But i chose to play video games instead of doign somehting productive with my life. Now occasional video games are understandable- something to do to relieve stress or just take a break here and now- but hours upon hours is just absurd and pointless.

Madden 13

Madden 13 is an exciting and very entertaining game for everyone, but especially sports lovers. Madden 13 has live-up-to-date rosters of all of the players and coaches in the league. The players overall skill ratings are very accurate compared to their real life performances. Even the rookie prospects' ratings are very similar to how they performed in real life. The nest thing about this game is movements of the players themselves. The jukes, tackles, dives, interceptions, and even the catches are much more realistic than any other year. In the previous years the receivers would just catch the ball. In this years Madden the receivers drag their toes to stay in bounds or make spectacular one handed catches. Another amazing thing about this game is the commentary from Jim Natz and Phil Simms. They keep the game play exciting with their commentary. A downfall to this game was the removal of a in-game option called Franchise Mode. In this game-mode you can play with any team you like and then fantasy draft from the entire league who you want on your team . I personally thought that this was the best feature the game offered the past years, but for some reason they decided to remove it from this years Madden.

Japan's Hunger Games?

So last night I started to watch this movie called "Batlle Royale". This movie is exactly like the movie "The Hunger Games" except rated R and in Japanese and not as good. This movie has the same premiss. It is about how Japan passed at a law called Battle Royale Act. This act states that 40 kids are chosen at random and sent to an island to battle until there is only 1 survivor remining. This movie is extremely gory and has horrendous acting. I would not reccomend this movie to anyone unless you like Gory foreign films.

Very funny introduction to his presentation. Started with the "popping of the dogs anal glands". 

10:45 We are learning about algorithms. These seem VERY confusing. 

10:50 "what is the message that Portal offer us?" Human struggle vs the process of algorithms. Once we think we are out we are still trapped in the algorithms. STRUGGLE!!!!!

Portal always reminds you that you are trapped in the enviornment.

Part II... ME

Hi everyone! My name is Garrett Komisarek. However, everyone but my immediate family calls me Komo. I am from San Mateo, California (Bay Area). I am majoring in Communications here at UH. I am a Junior transfer from Irvine Valley College in Southern California. I came to UH to play volleyball and bodysurf everyday. I am a huge Oakland Raiders fan, even though they suck. Something interesting about me is that last year I broke 2 bones, separated a ligament, and tore a tendon in my right wrist and played an entire volleyball season on it. I love the ocean in general. I bodysurf, bodyboard, surf and stand up paddle board. I also had a pet dog named Grizzly. He was part Husky and part Wolf. He was more Wolf than dog and was a little crazy for my family and me to take care of so we had to give him away. Another thing about me is that I have no interest in politics what-so-ever.
