this was orientation for our school, so i didn’t do much! orientation was done around 1, but it was raining so we stayed in for a while! I finished unpacking my room and organized. after, we decided to go out for dinner once the rain stopped, so we went to a japanese food place that had tonkatsu and soba! we finished with desert from a waffle place and called it a night since the next day was school.
I woke up early again--around 8. I had my interview for a scholarship and then class after. the scholarship is to work at an english facility on campus and help korean students with their conversation skills and writing skills, and they will pay you a monthly stipend but it roughly matches $10 an hour. today was the first day of classes but luckily i only have one class on thursday so it was a fairly easy first day. i had linear algebra from 3-5:50; unfortunately i hate once a week 3 hour long classes but somehow ended up with 3 of them... after class i joined my roommate for dinner with her orientation group along with 3 other groups. each group has a korean student from campus that is assigned to them to answer any questions and help us get acclimated. we went to have fried chicken and beer and it was delicious! i had a lot of fun and really enjoyed socializing with other students since i’ve mostly just been with my roommate and the friends that came with me to korea. i tried flavored soju too which was a lot better than i expected! i don’t really like taking shots but the flavored ones make it much easier! after eating i went with some other friends to norebang (karaoke) and sang off the small buzz i had hahaha but i love karaoke so it was the perfect way to end the night!
i didn’t have class so i relaxed at the dorm until later when my friend got out of class, and we went to myeongdong to shop. there were so many beauty shops and other stores but mostly beauty shops! it was crazy to me because there were multiple shops of the same store but because there are so many people shopping there it made sense to have multiple shops for the popular brands! when we ate dinner i found out i had been one of the ones to receive the scholarship along with my friends so i may have gone a little crazy shopping after.. but it was fun and i hope to go back there again because there were so many streets we didn’t explore!
my friends and i had reserved tickets for a kpop concert put on by music core! the best part was the concert was free for foreigners, and we had decent seats. i mainly went for sistar and b1a4, two of my favorite groups! the concert was a lot of fun and I'm glad i got to enjoy it with my friends and be silly with them! everyone around us was quiet, but we were definitely loud enough to make up for it hahaha. it was hard too because i really wanted to stand for sistar but everyone stayed sitting for the whole concert... it makes more sense because then its easier for everyone to see but its definitely different than concerts I've been to in the states! i took some videos so i hope to compile them in a vlog i did of my first week in korea so stay tuned for that!
