Major Grom: Plague Doctor
is a brilliant movie you should support as soon as it comes out internationally. Let me tell you why. I’m going to try to be brief.
“Major Grom: Plague Doctor” is the first russian superhero comic book adaptation. And it’s a well done adaptation. Frankly, I think it even improves the comic plot.
What is the plot anyway? To summarize, there’s this police major Igor Grom. And he’s very damn good at his job. Although it’s a superhero movie, there are no superpowers. Igor’s only “superpower” is that he can’t be bribed. He’s an honest cop that really wants to make this world better.
Then comes Plague Doctor. And, you know, from this point I’ll let the trailer tell everything. Just turn on the english subtitles.
As you can see, the theme of the movie is law vs justice. And the morals are very grey. It’s like the movie asks you “Law or justice?” and doesn’t answer. You decide for yourself. You choose who you support. But there definitely is a good lesson to learn: no matter your good intentions, the end doesn’t justify the means.
Also, “Major Grom: Plague Doctor” is an incredibly beautiful movie with a lot of symbolism in the smallest details. The humor is good, the music is good, the characters are good (the actors did an incredible job). Each key character even had their own little introduction scene. And the girl you see in the trailer, Yulya Pchyolkina, is no longer a damsel in distress. In fact, she helps Igor a lot and can stand up for herself.
The plot is, of course, great as well. There are a couple of twists that make you gasp, and then there’s THE twist and THE scene. Trust me, you’ll know what I mean. The villain is done right! I don’t know how to tell you about him without spoiling everything, so just trust me on this.
