from a very young age, dakota's had to take care of herself along with her twin brother. her parents were killed when they were still babies and the campbell children were raised (or something like that) by the entire pack or whoever felt benevolent that day.

because of this, kota became quite strong-willed and independent. she's not too fond of authority figures and pushes back when she's around them more often than not.

when she turned seventeen, she decided she wanted to leave town and see the world. she didn't get very far thanks to her very limited budget, but she did have time to get into all kinds of trouble. kota is what you would call hedonistic. she prioritizes pleasure at all costs and has a bit of an addictive personality. she can't enjoy just one drink, she'll have ten, and has tried every drug that's been put in front of her.

dakota's always loved her werewolf side and embraced it fully, to the point of being reckless. she definitely doesn't give much thought to who might be around on a full moon.

eventually, she returned to the pack and reunited with her more responsible twin. she's known to be quite the troublemaker, not to mention a bit of a manipulator. she's not above using every tool in her arsenal to get what she wants.

The late hours didn't bother him, Jake's entire life had been shaped to exist as the epitome of a hunters life, and yet, some things apparently still sought to surprise him. Beyond pristine headstones and tombs lay those less well taken care of. Trees and weeds overgrown by years, turning the space further back into something more swamp looking than anything. His flashlight flickered across stones until the beam of light crossed over candles, no longer lit yet the trail of smoke that lifted from them hinted recent use. "Fucking witches," he mutters beneath his breath, the snap of brush underfoot drawing quick his attention, "This is what were doing now?" His body follows suit, turning slowly to meet the familiar face, "I thought we knew better by now," We, being them. The Oliver family were a gold mine among the hunter community, and sneaking up on any one of them was a risk better left alone.

Dakota sat her back against a headstone, her presence concealed from the man who had just stumbled upon the witches' leftover garbage. "And what would this be?" The blonde asked as she discarded her blunt by smashing it in the dirt before pushing herself up on her feet. "Who says this wasn't just a few kids attempting to contact the other side by lighting a few candles and reciting chants they found on the internet?" @tcintedsvcrets

Jesse knew he hadn't exactly been a joy to be around; his down days were most of the time. Sometimes time went by so fast when he just sat there staring into space. He blinks, his eyes slowly opening to the dark bedroom. His hand instantly reaches out to place a hand on her only for it to hit the empty yet damp sheets where she used to be. He turns his head to the other side of the bed to the nightstand, looking at the alarm clock that flashes two am. They are supposed to attend the reception later that day, a part of him kept wondering if the two of them should skip it since neither one of them were in good places but... maybe it's what she needs.

He sits up, pulling the blanket off and swinging his legs off the side of the bed. His attention moves to Max who is resting near the bathroom door. He wonders how selfish he's been the last month in not realizing how much she had been suffering at the same time. He stands up and moves over to the bathroom door, his hand grabs the handle and twists it. His eyes squint at the light, letting his vision take a second to adjust before it focuses on her. He walks over silently to her, allowing Max to slip into the bathroom behind him. He wraps his arms around her from behind, placing his forehead against her shoulder. "How come you didn't tell me you were still getting night terrors?"

Kota startles when she hears the doorknob twist, Jesse appears in the doorframe a second later closely followed by Max. Her two boys. The closest people to her except for her brother. And even he didn't understand what Dakota struggled with like Jesse did. "I'm sorry," she mutters, her eyes meeting his in the mirror as he wraps his arms around her body and pulls her close. She leans back against him, her head resting against his. "I didn't mean to wake you. I thought you needed the rest."

Jesse isn't the same person she met months ago. He's got a haunted look in his eyes now as if he feels too much or nothing at all. He lets her stick around, and she does because, even now, there's nowhere else she'd rather be but by his side. Even when he doesn't speak much to her or that nothing she says manages to pull a smile from him. Her chest still rises a bit too quickly for her liking, but her body does relax slightly with his presence. "You have a lot going on. I didn't want to add more to your plate." @oculiaperticlausi

As she did most nights, Dakota woke up in Jesse's bed with his shirt sticking to her damp skin and struggling to catch her breath. Her blue eyes darted around his room quickly, searching for the intruder she had seen in her dreams and, as always, failing to find him. Because there was no one inside Jesse's home but the two of them and his dog. She quietened down as much as she could as she glanced at Jesse's sleeping form next to him, swinging her legs over the edge of the mattress and quietly making her way to the bathroom.

He probably thought her night terrors were getting better, but she was actually just getting better at hiding them. Kota closed the door silently behind her and turned on the light. She put her palms on the edge of the sink, the cool marble grounding her to reality. The reflection looking back at her was a scary sight. Pale, clammy, with dark circles giving away how little sleep she usually got. Her hand clamped over her mouth to stifle the sounds of the sobs mixed in with the harsh breathing. She couldn't burden Jesse with this, not while he was still mourning his sister. @oculiaperticlausi

Jesse wasn't able to help Violet either, her sobs still echo in his head. He drifts his gaze over to the Christmas tree, the memory of Isabella making hot chocolate and the three of them watching a Christmas movie like all that time between them hadn't gone by. He pulls his gaze away from the tree before he gets the urge to get up and destroy everything in his path. Maybe, it's one of the other reasons he wants to make Dakota is as far away from him as possible because denial is the first stage and the more calm.

His eyes close when she reaches out and touches his cheek. His hand moves out and places it on her knee, giving it a light squeeze as he nods his head slowly. He turns his head to look away from her, sniffling once again. "We talked about how short life was." He mutters. "She was worried about talking to her ex, explaining to him everything she held back and I told her life was too short to keep wondering if things could work... And..." He shakes his head. "She didn't get a chance to live her life, Dakota."

Dakota follows his gaze to the tree, making a mental note to take the thing down as soon as she can manage. The last thing Jesse needs is a reminder of the Christmas he just spent in his sisters' company. His last one. She relaxes slightly when he reaches out for her, hoping it means he has given up on the idea of getting rid of her for now. Maybe he will need some alone time soon, but not when he's in that state.

Her hand stays on his cheek as he turns to look at her, her blue eyes softening as he starts talking. Guilt washes over her as it occurs to her that he might've been able to keep his sister safe if he hadn't been so busy looking after Kota herself. "It's not fair. It's not," she agrees, her thumb grazing his face. "I wish there was something I could say to make it better. Just know I'm not going anywhere." @oculiaperticlausi

Jesse closes his eyes; images of his baby sister now a body on a slab. He doesn't know what to say or even how to continue moving forward with all the emotions coursing through him. Grief has never been something he's ever had to deal with and yet it keeps piling on top of him, threatening to sink him into the ground. He never should have left Isabella trail off on her own. He should have been there to protect her.

He grabs his hands, resting them on his knees as he stares at the floor. He can't argue with her, the idea of hurting Dakota also brings bile up to the surface. He wants her to be safe but is she safe in his company? He doesn't want to let his guard down, the news of them arresting Viktor has does nothing to ease the weight. He turns his head to look over at her, fresh tears rolling down his cheeks. "I don't know how to do this."

He seems to let down his guard a little and Kota takes full advantage of it, joining him on the floor and scooting closer until their shoulders are touching. She lets him cry because what else can she do? What else can he do? It would be more worrisome if he wasn't. Her own hands stay on her knees as well, not wanting to set him off again. Hopefully, the closeness is a little comforting. At the very least, she hopes it reminds him that she's there and that she isn't going anywhere.

When he turns to look at her, she takes a risk and leans closer to him. One of her hands moves on top of his, and the other moves to his cheek to wipe a tear away with her thumb. "I don't think there's a way to do this. I think it's going to hurt like hell and it probably always will to some degree, but you need to remember that there are still people in your life who need you and love you very much. It's too much to feel; the way most of these murders have been connected to him in one way or another. Daniela, Talon, Bells... Kota's forced overdose. He doesn't know how to pick through the rational and the irrational as the grief spreads through him, wrapping around his throat and threatening to take him. "I..." He shakes his head, tilting his head down as he sniffles.

He raises his hand up to his head, pressing his knuckles against his temple. He should have assumed she'd fight him on this, the way the two of them have leaned on one another through the tragedy the last few months. He should have realized she never would have gotten her stuff and left.

"You being around me right now puts your sobriety at risk." He says quietly. "I need you to leave." He's surprised she can't smell the whiskey on his breath, the whiskey bottle still hiding under the seat in his car because even through the grief he would never put Dakota at risk.

It hits her when he speaks up again, the smell of alcohol on his breath. Whiskey, if she had to guess. It dawns on her that he wasn't just out with his family, that he might've made a pitstop on the way to do a little bit of forgetting as well. She's not in any position to judge and she doesn't. She's lost count of how many times she's been in his shoes before.

As much as she wants to reach out to him again, she keeps a safe distance and her hands to herself. It's painful for her to stand idly by while he's in so much pain, but he very obviously doesn't want her anywhere near him right now. "My sobriety's doing just fine. I'm steady enough to not run to the nearest bar at the mere scent of alcohol," she retorts, her tone gentle. She owes it to him to at least try to be there. He was there for her, after all. "I don't want to leave you. Plus, whiskey's never been my favourite." @oculiaperticlausi

Jesse walks into the apartment, shutting the door behind him. It's a soft click; Violet's sobs still echo in his ear as the flashes of his baby sister on the metal slab. He sniffles, raising his hand up to the bridge of his nose as he pinches it. He wasn't able to get Violet to remain anywhere near him hence why he's standing in his apartment. He exhales as he glances around the inside of his house, the Christmas tree taunting him.

Jesse, meet your new baby sister. His mother's words come to him now, the second his nine year old eyes rested on the little baby in his arms. He knew he would stop at nothing to protect her. He remembers the day he fulfilled that promise, the party, her unconscious and his hands taking out the threat... those actions pulling him away from seeing her for the last twelve years. It wasn't enough time. It's wasn't...

He gasps, raising his hand to his chest as he can't seem to catch air. He drops to the ground, leaning up against the wall next to the front. He can hear her footsteps but he can't hear anything she's saying through the tightness suffocating him.

He tilts his head down, a broken sob leaves him. He reaches up to grab the hand resting on his shoulder, shaking his head as he pushes it off him. "You need to go," he mutters it through the sniffles. He hits the door. "Get out. Get out."

Dakota spends the hours Jesse's gone pacing in his room, anxiously waiting for his return and hoping that somehow the news got it wrong. That this new victim was some other girl, not the baby sister he adored so much. The way things have been going lately, however, she knows he won't get so lucky. She knows he'll come back any minute with a broken heart.

When she finally hears the familiar sound of his front door opening and closing, she rushes out to him but pauses when he comes into view. It's worse than she thought it would be, which isn't all that surprising. "Jesse," she whispers, approaching him slowly, afraid that any sudden movement might shatter him completely.

She reaches out for him, her hand resting on his shoulder both to announce her presence and to offer whatever comfort she can provide. "I'm so sorry, I don't know what to—" She's not exactly sure what to expect, but him shoving her hand away from him isn't it. His yelling at her to get out even less so. "Jesse, I just... I don't think you should be alone right now."

Forget I said anything." Kota had seen the things people were saying about her in the group chat and if there were still a few people in town that weren't aware of what had happened she wanted to keep it that way. "I used to be an actress, so... no. I pretty much thrive on attention," she admitted nonchalantly, looking down at the man with her arms crossed over her chest. "Just not the kind of attention I've been getting lately. I could do without that." @oculiaperticlausi

Cait knew half the island was hooked on something; but last she'd heard, the sister of the doctor was clean. "Come, sit down and I'll bite anyone who looks sideways at you. for a while"

"Great. Recovering junkie is more accurate. Were you expecting me to look like a meth addict?" Dakota asked dryly, openly glaring at the other girl. At least she was honest about knowing exactly who she was and what had happened to her. "Literally bite? That might take some of the heat off of me, actually." She sat down somewhat reluctantly, watching the blonde warily. "I'm clean. For the record."

SELF-PARA TW DRUGS, ADDICTION, OVERDOSE.

Dakota had been staying at Jesse's since the second murder, wanting to make sure he was safe and, above all, okay. It didn't feel right for him to be alone while he dealt with whatever was happening. Of course, she had left with just a bag of clothes and had quickly gotten tired of wearing the same three outfits every day, so she felt the need to come back home to grab a few more things over to his place. "Thanks for dropping me off," she told him as she handed him his helmet back. He had insisted on dropping her off in front of her building, which she understood given the circumstances. "I'll see you after work."

Twenty minutes later, the blonde had another bag packed and was done watering the few plants she had gotten to liven up her apartment. She still had a little free time before work and was about to turn on her TV to catch up on a few shows, but was interrupted by a knock on her door. By the time she opened it, there was no one there, but there were flowers and a cup of coffee waiting for her. She frowned as she reached for the goods, closing the door with her foot before bringing everything to the kitchen. A card signed Silas accompanied the bouquet and Dakota chuckled as understanding washed over her. This was so like him. He must've assumed she was working the night shift and thought it appropriate to send over a little liquid energy.

After putting the flowers in a vase, she brought the coffee over to the couch and sipped it absentmindedly as she watched an idiotic reality show that didn't require any braincells. Maybe that's why she didn't notice the way her heart suddenly beat faster and the way the room suddenly felt stiflingly hot at first. Nausea came next and by then Kota realized something was wrong. She realized she knew these feelings, had gone through this before. Standing up from the couch, a little too quickly, she felt paranoia creep over her. The empty cup fell too the floor, her hands shaking too much to hold onto it.

She tried to make it to the counter where she had left her phone, but it suddenly felt too difficult to breathe, to walk. She almost made it, her fingers grasping her phone, when she felt the room shift around her. Or maybe she was the one wobbling. A thousand fears, memories and faces rushed through her brain as she fell to the floor, her body seizing as it occurred to her that there was no one coming this time.

"of course." He responds quietly as he pulls his finger out of his mouth. He glances down to look at the little buddy. "It seems to be fine now." He teases, raising his head up to look at her again. He hears a knock on the door. He walks over and grabs the tip off the table that he set aside. He opens the door and grabs the pizza, shutting door as he walks back over to her. He places it all on the counter, clearing his throat. "Food is finally here." Thank God his little buddy didn't need to be playing with fire.

Dakota watched intently as he pulled the finger out of his mouth, her tongue moving over her bottom lip. This man would get her in so much trouble. "I guess I'll just have to take your word for it since I'm not allowed to check for myself. Wouldn't want you to feel objectified," she told him with a smirk, leaning forward against the counter. Just as things were getting interesting, there was a knock on the door. "Saved by the pizza guy." She moved to the other side of the counter, standing near him to get some of the containers open. Jesse chuckles. "Come over at three am. I'll always open the door." He didn't take it any other way despite the fact he wouldn't exactly mind if she did decide that was something she needed but he also knew he didn't want to do that to her either. He reaches out, swiping his index finger across the frosting and then placing his finger into his mouth. "I get it but we all got urges. I get that too."

Dakota can't help but smile bashfully at his promise to always open the door, once again not doubting that he would just do just that with no afterthoughts. "Thanks, I appreciate that," she said quietly, leaning down to blow the candle before any wax got in the frosting. Her eyes follow his finger as he puts some frosting in his mouth. "Yes, you made that clear earlier. How's your little buddy doing?" @oculiaperticlausi

Jesse nods his head, finding himself understanding on some certain level. "Well, you can lean on me." He tells her, turning his head to look over at the cupcakes, his brows furrow for a quick second even she chuckles at him bringing up the guy. He glances back toward her, breathing out a little chuckle. "I'm sure he probably wants more, Kota. Anyone with eyes can tell." He leans against the counter. "Just know you have a friend here, alright? Whenever you need it. You can call me or text me."

Dakota nods, believing him when he says she could lean on him. A lot of people just said shit like that and never pulled through, but she has a feeling Jesse would show up the second she said she needed him. "You might regret that the day I suddenly need you at 3 am one day," she points out with a chuckle, not even realizing the other way he might interpret that. "I made what I could give him abundantly clear. I shouldn't even be sleeping with him, you know? He can't be upset with me for doing exactly what I said I would do." @oculiaperticlausi

Jesse raises his arms, crossing them over his chest. Maybe on some level he realized there was an instant connection between the two of them as if they understood each other on some level. He frowns, not being able to help the reaction. "No one has ever done something like this before? Really?" He watches her for a second. "Not even with that guy?"

The blonde shrugs, wiping at her cheeks with the back of her hand. “I’ve never really let anyone in when it comes to my addiction. I talk about it, but I didn’t want anyone to feel obligated to do this stuff for me. My brother’s got a kid, his own shit going on and I didn’t want to be a burden to him anymore,” she explains, looking at the candle as it burns slowly. Kota can’t help but chuckle when he brings up Silas again, her teary eyes meeting his. “He’s not my boyfriend. We usually just… you know, fuck.” @oculiaperticlausi
