now that ‘Theo crushed on Tom Cable’ is the big goldfinch head canon getting passed around I am losing every time I see someone mention how my cigarette post backs that up.  I didn’t even think about Tom when I was writing that but it makes perfect sense and I fully buy it.  But seeing people mention ‘that post about how cigarettes in the goldfinch are about being gay’ makes me feel like the belle of the ball.  We’ve made a tiny academic circle and I am kind of citations.

in the book-verse i headcanon him as bi; despite john crowley’s homophobia the movie went out of its way to edit out any mentions of kotku or his (possible) wife and kids + aneurin really put his all into Boris Loves Theo And No One Else Ever so i figure i gotta recognize+reward his efforts by saying i think movie boris is gay

As much as i post about Boris and Theo living in marital bliss i can't really picture them officially getting married. Theo seems more like the type to refer to Boris as his 'closest friend' very old fashioned and proper, probably similar to how Hobie and Welty referred to themselves. Lots of euphemisms like 'roommate' or 'life companion' where everyone knows what they mean but he can keep a very thin veil of plausible deniability.

Their biggest fight is when Theo finds out Boris has been introducing him as the Russian equivalent to 'boytoy'.
