“Teletourgia” by Masha Kharitonova attempts to visually re-assemble the myth and mechanics of these ancient practices. The film is divided into four chapters, metaphorically representing the processes of saturation, mystical ecstasy and bodily fusion – followed by decay and rebirth. The eerily unnatural movements of Butoh performers, avant-garde techniques and alchemical imagery create a cinematic language capable of conveying and animating the archetypal story of one’s own destruction and rediscovery.
The equally mesmerizing and grueling soundtrack for the feature was created by Moscow-based musicians Karina Kazaryan, known as KP Transmission, and Sergey Shpilevoy, performing under the name Dritter Verkehrsring.

Badlands was produced by film collective ELLI, which Alexander Epikhov belongs to, and made in collaboration with musician Karina Kazaryan, responsible for the haunting dark soundtrack, and independent modelling agency Lumpen for the unusual faces representing Russian youth today. Together, these elements launch the viewer on a surreal journey from a mysterious car park into the depths of one’s consciousness, the void between past and present.
