how do you draw awesome pixel art tummies so good
To draw awesome pixel art tummies you first have to draw awesome pixel art! I've made a post going over some of the basics here-
💬 0 🔁 3 ❤️ 8 · Any tips for people who want to get into concept art? Study stuff you like!! It's important in all art mediums, but especi
For tummy stuff specifically, there's a couple techniques I like to use. Pixel art isn't really suited to creating the soft shapes you really want for good fat rendering, so a lot of what I do is focused on finding ways around that.
This is what I like to call the "fucked up and evil outline". You can see that by using the little jagged shape in the middle there you can make much softer curves and outlines- you'll notice it all over my art if you look for it. This is generally not considered good practice for pixel art on the whole, but it's very useful in this very specific situation.
I also go very hard on the anti-aliasing, which is where you try to kind of "blend" some colors together by putting single dots of an intermediate shade in between. Here, the white inside and black outline are anti-aliased together with the orange.
These are the specific things I do, but beyond that it's mostly just knowing how to draw fat well. How it's placed on the body, how it hangs / squishes, etc. There are some very well done tutorials both here and elsewhere on the internet (Morpho: Fat and Skin Folds is one of the best and you can find free PDFs of it online) , but I'd really recommend taking some time to study actual pictures of people, as well as the art of artists you like. Once I started to take a closer look and really get an idea of the physicality of fat, it kind of "clicked" for me.
