Turkey burger night so I threw together some quick pickle red onions and tried out making some burger buns with the Italian bread recipe I use. They came out a little smaller than I’d hoped but the one I taste tested was really good.

BIRTHDAY WITCHCRAFT

It’s your birthday? AWESOME. Here’s some witchy (and non-witchy) shit you can do to celebrate and make your birthday awesomer.

FUBAR’d your New Year’s Resolution? DO NOT DESPAIR. Use your birthday as a new start date for your resolution. Your birthday is December 31? Even one day is better than none. Make that resolution!

ALL THE BIRTHDAY WISHES. Take every birthday wish as a personal good luck spell or blessing. Run with the idea that each person isn’t being polite and wishing you happy birthday, but they are literally telling you the day is happier because you were born today. Hell yes.

Birthday candles. If you can get ahold of your birthday candles ahead of time enchant them. Good luck, love, money, protection, whatever. Just make sure you don’t coat them with anything that can be set further on fire or is toxic. (Best not coat them at all, really.)

Clean your place before your birthday. No, seriously. Cleanse it and beef up your protection. You’ll be bringing in new things if you accept gifts so it might be necessary. Do the same for the gifts when you get the chance. 

Make your own birthday dessert and fold spells into the creation of it. A cake, mini cake, cookies, cupcake, ice cream, pudding, pie, pastries, muffins, whatever. You could do this with regular food too but sometimes having a mini personal cake you don’t have to share with other folks is the best idea ever.

Going out and want ALL the attention? Glamour ALL THE THINGS! I’ve got a couple posts in my resources on it but seriously, the easiest way is to enchant some water and drawn sigils, symbols, or write a spell into clothing, hair, skin, shoes, etc.

You want to look fabulous? You want to spend time on your appearance? Then do it. Use all that bath stuff you buy and never seem to get a chance to use. I enchant mine for varying purposes.

Need more time? Get an egg timer and enchant it so that while it runs, you will have peace.

Coat your wallet and/or handbag with enchanted water or oil to help save you money. This might end up with drinks comped or free food. Or you might find there’s no cover charge at a bar or hell, you find twenty bucks in your jeans. Whatever. Saving money is awesome.

Rock a new outfit. Or at least something new. Even if you have to make it. You can even restyle old T-shirts into new clothing. Combine it with something old and beloved. Again, this is sort of like a new year. Celebrate by bringing in the old and new as you go forward throughout the day. Bring the old time, the memories, where you came from with you and the new outfit represents the future life you want and WILL have. Make it so. Wash the clothing in a special, non-dying laundry soap (or spritz it with enchanted water).

After a certain age, many folks don’t bother to celebrate their birthdays. WHY I DON’T KNOW. You made it. You survived this crazy planet for another year. And that shit is not easy to do. WHY WOULDN’T YOU CELEBRATE THAT? Don’t be afraid to say, “No. Fuck that. I’m going to do a thing today. I don’t care that I’m X age. I’m going to celebrate.”

You go and be awesome and fabulous.

It’s not pretty but it’s soooo good. Strawberry rhubarb pie with vanilla ice cream, all homemade. Recipe was for an 8 inch pie and I didn’t realize we only had a 9.5” pie pan until it was too late. So it’s not as full as it should be. I also zoned out and trimmed the bottom crust before I filled and topped it but 🤷🏻‍♀️

Forgot about tumblr for a bit but here’s an old update on the oxalis. It shot up 5 flower stalks in all. They’re all pretty much dead now so I’m waiting to see if it goes dormant. I’ve been on the hunt for some other plants but I’ve only been able to really check Home Depot and Lowe’s. I’ve been meaning to look into local nurseries but the ones I do know of pretty much only do the popular stuff or food.

got this oxalis triangularis from Home Depot today. it needs some tlc but I’m excited to get it repotted and set up in the small library area I’ve been working on in our room 🥰

giving hydroponics a try. we’re hoping we can do a small raised garden bed this year but I’m not sure how well it’ll go since our backyard doesn’t get much sun. I’m thinking we might have better luck with a green house but I’m worried about putting money into that and not getting much out of it

I’ve made this no knead Italian bread recipe twice and it’s turned out great both times. The original recipe makes 2 loaves but I haven’t had a problem just halving the ingredients so far. I’m trying to make things homemade more often and although clean up can suck, even with a dishwasher, getting to the finished product is so satisfying.

Second time making bagels and I did half cheddar and half cheddar jalapeño. Definitely doing a full batch of cheddar jalapeño next time with way more peppers on top. I also boiled the jalapeño bagels for 2 minutes each side, instead of 1, and it made a huge difference so I’ll be doing it like that from now on.

Adding on to this. Skillshare is hard to cancel. There’s a slight chance this has changed but when I looked into subscribing, there was a lot of people complaining about having to email the company multiple times to cancel. Edit: This had been disproved, sorry about that!

Since Squarespace is templets, they legally own whatever you make. If you decide to change providers, you can’t take it with you. You’re stuck with them forever or have to rebuild your website from the ground up. You at least own the domain name so there’s that, but for me it’s not worth the work if I have to restart should I ever decide I hate the company.

I want more people to know this because every time I’ve looked into something advertised by youtubers, it’s never been good.
