It seems the Lord speaks to me in themes. We spend time on that one theme for several months and when I seem to grasp a deeper understanding of it or he completely blows me away with a deeper revelation of who he is, we move on. Lately, that theme has been grace. Not saving grace but the unmerited favor he pours out on us on a daily basis. This grace is demonstrated to all of his creation. Matthew 5:45 says, âFor He makes the sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.â If God did not pour out his grace on all of us then we would be utterly destroyed. The fact that the sun comes up every morning and goes down every evening is proof of his grace. The fact that the stars come out at night and provide their beautiful frosting to the deep night sky is proof of his grace. And it is not only the righteous that benefit from this. It is a gift to all of creation.

You see, his grace is there in every moment of our lives. The good and the bad. When we get that promotion at work, his grace is in that. When we get that dreaded phone call, his grace is in that. When weâve prayed for God to provide for deep needs and he comes through with something greater than we could imagine, his grace is in that. When we spend years praying for something and he still has yet to provide it, his grace is in that as well. He does not withhold one good thing from us. Not one GOOD thing. If we donât have it, itâs because at this moment in our lives itâs not whatâs best for us.
I know his word is true. And it tells me that if we know how to give good gifts to our children in our sinfulness and depravity, then, his gifts are perfect because he is holy and righteous. (Matthew 7:11) If he pours out his grace even on the sinner how much more does he lavish it on his children? Psalm 84:11 says, âFor the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.â
I have found this to be true in my life. He is constant (just like the sun). He protects me. His grace comes to me not only through an answer to a prayer that I have prayed for years but also through the every day and the mundane. Lately, He has displayed his glory to me through the sweet surprise of a new friendship and through the steady comfort of an old one. Not only does he bless us with such wonderful things but also with deep, abiding joy when we believe that He will withhold no good thing from us.
Maybe youâre about to the end of your rope. Youâve been waiting for him to give you that one thing that you think will fix it all for you. If heâs holding it back, you must know that it is for your good. It doesnât mean heâll hold it back forever. Just rest in knowing that at this moment, right here and right now, for reasons you may never know, itâs not for your good. So while we wait, we make much of the favor he has shown us even in the mundane moments of life. We praise him for both the good gifts he gives and the things he has held back because they werenât for our ultimate good. His timing and wisdom are perfect. So just as the song says, âIâm breathing in your grace, and Iâm breathing out your praise,â make it a part of your everyday life, just like breathing. And trust him.
