BIOGRAPHY
tw: house fire, infidelity
Growing up, Kris was more into sports than anything. She always wanted to get outside and play rough with the boys but her parents put her into cheerleading and dance. She did both of those until she was about eleven and she tried out for her school's girl's basketball team. Kris made the team and dropped cheerleading and dance for basketball even though her parents' didn't really like it, they supported her dreams and she was really good at it.
Just a few months short of her fourteenth birthday, her brother, Jon, burnt down the family home. They lost everything in the fire but the family made it out unscathed. Their parents started to resent Jon and treat him differently, teaching the other children in the home to do the same. Although Kris never really cared that they lost everything and was just glad the family was okay, she never expressed that out loud. So when she saw that Jon was pulling away from the family, she let him. She's always felt badly for making him feel so isolated but never told him that.
The only thing worse than starting something and failing… is not starting something.
She played basketball all the way through high school, eventually becoming the team's captain in her senior year. Upon graduating high school, she decided she wanted to go as far away as she could for school to escape the tension at home. So she went to Stanford University in California on a basketball scholarship. She majored in Biology with intentions of going to medical school. There in college, she really explored her sexuality and realized that she was bisexual.
When Kris graduated from Stanford, she decided she wanted to see more of America and moved to the other side of the country for medical school at Columbia University in New York. It was there where she fell in love for the first time. It was with a woman. They dated from junior year all the way up to graduation where they ended things because they were going to different hospitals in different states for their residencies.
Saying goodbye doesn't mean anything. It's the time we spent together that matters, not how we left it.
She moved to Chicago to do her residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. It was there that she fell in love for a second time. Two years into the relationship, they were married with a kid on the way. She stayed in Chicago for six more years after that, raising her kid, completing her residency in anesthesiology and making a name for herself. She started to feel too tied down after being in one place for so long.
That's what called her to do Doctors Without Borders. She worked there for two years on and off for up to three months at a time. She got to travel the world and help people. It was her true calling. Things in her relationship grew kind of strained though. Her husband felt like she didn't love him as much anymore. One day, she came home early from assignment meaning to surprise her husband, only to find him in their bed with another woman while their kid was at school. She moved out of the house that same day, taking her now 8 year old with her.
Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.
They stayed with a friend for a few weeks before she decided to leave the city all together. Kris moved her and her kid to Paris. She knew enough French from learning it in school and it was a requirement for Doctors Without Borders. In Paris, she worked at Hôpital Universitaire Pitié Salpêtrière, the top hospital in the city. She really started to make a life and a name for herself. Her kid was thriving too. She dated around for the next few years but never anything serious. Kris never thought about moving back home to Northknot but when her child started asking questions about their species that she couldn’t answer, she thought home would be the best place for her kid to explore and learn about themselves in a safe environment.
So Kris decided to move back to Northknot knowing it would be the best place for Parker at this pivotal time in their life. Now, after six months, she’s finding her footing again. She’s slowly started reconnecting with Jon, meeting each other’s kids and starting to bridge the old gap between them, though she hasn’t shared this with the rest of the family yet. While keeping firm boundaries with her parents, she does allow them some supervised time with Parker. Meanwhile, Parker has settled well, making new friends at school and spending time with their aunt and uncles. Kris has built a good reputation at work and found a close circle of friends both inside and outside the hospital. Despite the city facing threats from a rogue supernatural group, a risk she understood before moving, Kris feels at home and has no regrets about her decision to return.
