Aeon Ginsberg, from "Poem in Which I Transition into a Succulent"
Hating yourself is exhausting and stealing all your joy. Who cares? Who cares if you're not the next topmodel, who cares if you're not the beauty standard, who cares if men don't throw themselves at you, I have loved many times and it was always faces who told a story, who looked interesting and different and unique and those were the people that were the most beautiful in the world to me. It doesn't matter how you look. The right people will find you stunning anyways. It's what makes you interesting.
Kate Baer, from And Yet: Poems; âIdeaâ
[Text ID: âI will enjoy this life. I will open it like a peach in season, suck the juice from every finger, run my tongue over my chin. I will not worry about clichĂŠs or uninvited guests peering in my windows. I will love and be loved. Save and be saved a thousand times. I will let the want into my body, bless the heat under my skin. My life, I will not waste it. I will enjoy this life.â]
Chen Chen, from "weep ode #99"
You have always been worthy of being taken care of. You are not a burden and your needs are not insignificant.
pain was not built to last forever. it wonât. it will lessen and lessen and someday it will be gone altogether.
If you canât handle me at my worst, that makes two of us.
maybe youâre the one who got away. maybe it was their loss. maybe you walking away meant you opened up yourself to the possibility of finding someone who could truly treat you right. just maybe.
Mary Oliver, from âHum Humâ, A Thousand Mornings
I hate hate HATE what the internet has done to mental health language. You donât have intrusive thoughts about fucking McDonaldâs for four hours Bethany, theyâre about incest, rape, murder and all other kinds of disgusting things you donât want. Thatâs why theyâre called INTRUSIVE. Theyâre rapid and scary and horrible. Youâre not âtriggeredâ cause a moron on tiktok said something you donât like, itâs when your PTSD recognised something that could be dangerous to you thatâs similar to a traumatic event and shuts down to try and help you. Itâs panic inducing and the worst feeling. Disassociation isnât âzoning out.â For a bit in class, itâs walking around like an emotionless zombie because you canât feel anything as a symptom of severe mental illness or trauma. Shut the fuck up!!!
I used to love the idea of healing my trauma to âprove them wrong.â Iâd feel so crappy when I was struggling, because that was âproving them right.â But the more I heal the more I realize I donât need to prove myself to anyone. Iâm healing me for me.
Yes yes
Can I even begin to tell you how wonderful it feels to wake up, sit for three hours doing things you like, and feel nothing but PEACE in your central nervous system, and hear no NOISE in your brain, so much so that you keep getting tingles up your spine?
I forgot what this felt like.
Apparently this needs to be said so
Forgetting things is morally neutral! Memory issues are morally neutral!
You're not a bad person if you...
forget things quickly
forget people
can't remember entire stages of your life
can't remember important things
can remember some things very well and forget other things all the time
can't remember things (or anything!) about your interests
forget to eat, sleep, go to the bathroom, etc
forget to reply to texts
remember things and immediately forget them again
can't remember birthdays, events, etc
frequently answer 'I forgot' to questions
can't retain new information
forget things you used to know
only remember things when it's too late
have vague, distorted and/or unreliable memories
depend on others to know how an event you were in played out
have other symptoms that are worsened by memory issues and vice versa
... and anything else I might have missed!
Also, PSA to healthcare professionals out there...
When I say that I can't remember things, don't jump to the assumption that I'm lying
When I say that there are vast chunks of my childhood that have just disappeared for me, there is a reason for that and I can't magically recover those memories just because you're asking me to remember them
