It’s that time of year again, Krovs –– Heat week has officially started! All species mentioned below will experience heat as detailed in each write up. Those that don’t experience heat are more than welcome to volunteer assisting those that do… or they can find a safe place to hide out from the madness for the week.
Please continue reading for more information and feel free to reach out with any questions.
Alpha wolves experience rut like how omegas experience heat. Although instead of submitting, they feel the need to dominate and breed omegas or betas. Ruts may increase once they get in contact with the pheromones of an omega in heat. During the first stage of their rut, they feel a strong urge to take care of all unbonded omegas in proximity and protect their nests. Alphas are territorial during their rut and aggressive towards those they consider as rivals. Outbreaks of violence between wolves are not uncommon. Alphas bonded to a partner are much calmer and less affected by their rut. All alphas have larger genitals and a knot that forms at the base of their penis when they’re close to orgasm. This knot inflates at climax to "lock" themselves inside their partner and hold in semen, which increases the chances of pregnancy. It’ll subside about thirty minutes after an orgasm, but until then the omega and alpha cannot break away.
Betas also experience rut and heat, although it’s not nearly to the degree of alphas or omegas. They neither have a knot nor are they able to produce slick like omegas and they can’t conceive. They're attracted to the pheromones of both alphas and omegas as they can fill in for either role.
Heat is when omegas are most fertile, most submissive, and ready to be bred. Some choose to have partners help during their heats. Others hide in their nests without a mate until their heat is over. During their heat, omegas produce a sickly sweet scent to draw alphas to mate with them, regardless of whether the omega wants to or not. This scent is a combination of the omega’s own amplified natural scent with the self-lubricant they produce called “slick." Many omegas will show symptoms a few days before the start of heat like mood swings, increased appetite, and insatiable arousal. Another common sign their heat is coming soon is an omega's need to “nest.” They’ll gather soft items like bedding, blankets, and clothing that they (or their mated alpha or partner) own and build a nest in a secure room for comfort. If their nest is invaded during heat, they may develop trust issues as nests are an omega’s territory. Male omegas in general have small genitals and no knot.
Note: Omegas are unable to conceive in Krovs due to the powerful magic negating fertility.
All werewolf hybrids experience heat.
Shapeshifters go into heat similarly to beta werewolves. Mood swings, physical sensitivity, territorial behavior, fevers, and the powerful urge to reproduce and breed are common symptoms. Some may exhibit specific mating behavior according to the animal that they are.
All shapeshifter hybrids experience heat.
Dragons go into heat like shapeshifters. Mood swings, physical sensitivity, territorial behavior, fevers, and the powerful urge to reproduce and breed are common symptoms. They also experience highly possessive behavior towards their partners during heat.
All dragon hybrids experience heat.
Phoenixes, pamolas, and thunderbirds go into heat like shapeshifters and dragons, where it is commonly experienced as an increased need for sex and physical touch. Mood swings, sensitivity, and the craving for body contact are common symptoms. All of these birds may also exhibit more showy displays in order to attract a mate.
Nekos experience heat like shapeshifters. They behave much like cats, both small and large depending on their neko spirit. Common symptoms include: fevers, mood swings, and increased desires for physical contact and breeding. They may stretch out and yowl more often and scent everything of their partners’ to mark their territory. They’ll also exhibit more aggressive and playful behavior like mounting and play-biting necks.
All neko hybrids experience heat.
Demons like arachnas and familiars experience heat similarly to shapeshifters. Common symptoms include: fevers, mood swings, and increased desires for physical contact and breeding. They can also be much more aggressive during this week.
All arachna and familiar hybrids experience heat.
For those wanting to avoid heat's effects, suppressants are available from castle doctors or the town pharmacist. These drugs suppress the desire for sex and will block the emission of pheromones. They also have the side effect of causing positive emotions and pleasant behavior. Castle and town residents have unlimited access to these suppressants. Claimed and purchased slaves will need permission from their owners to receive them. Unclaimed slaves looking to soothe their heat can always ask a guard or another employee or guest if they can get suppressants.
Our July heat week event will run until 12PM EST on July 13th. Like always, players can choose to participate in the event or not, although we always encourage it. IC time equals OOC time, which means that characters will be in heat for seven whole days.
Once the event begins, players can only post starters that are related to it. Please tag all open starters only with #event starter and #krovscastlestarter. Make sure to @krovscastlestarters as well! Our rules on open starters in terms of limits and response requirements still apply; please see here for information. Please do NOT use the #krovscastleevent tag so that players can easily find event information without starters clogging this tag. Keep in mind to reply to other open starters being posted. Open starters that are not related to the event will be reblogged after it has ended. Any starters prior to the event needing three responders will be advertised after our event ends.
Players have until Friday, July 10th to post event-related open starters. Any open starter posted after midnight EST on Saturday, July 11th WILL NOT be reblogged onto our starter blog or advertised by the admin. This is to ensure that any and all event opens posted throughout the week receive enough responders before our event ends.
While this event is not mandatory for participation, it does affect the whole castle and town, especially for characters who actually experience heat. Given the circumstances this makes it difficult for many characters to avoid it. Players are welcome to choose their level of participation for this event from avoiding it completely to full list of characters joining in the fun at their own discretion. If anyone is choosing NOT to participate in the event at all, please let the admin know immediately via either the main or Discord messages for awareness.
Players who are participating in the event MUST put non-event threads on hold during event week. This is to ensure that event time is used for event things. If players have one or two non-event threads they’ve discussed with a partner to keep moving during an event for specific reasons, that is acceptable. Otherwise we should be seeing a dash full of more event threads than non-event ones during the week. All non-event threads can be picked back up again once the event is over.
Rules for masters, slaves, staff, and villagers still apply! This means slaves who misbehave in the castle will have to face a punishment either by a master or the enforcer or the police officers/chief if they break town laws. Masters, staff, and villagers who break the castle or town rules will be punished as well.
Claims and purchases will stay intact throughout the event. Unclaimed slaves will remain in the Undercroft unless otherwise rented by a master, staff member, or villager to assist with heat. Staff members and villagers should plan to take time off from their jobs in order to deal with their heat or make the appropriate arrangements.
Applications will still be accepted during the event week.
Players, please LIKE this post so that we know it has been read.
