another country with a heap of problems right now is Belarus. I've reblogged posts about it before and yes I'm refusing to stop cause I see nothing about it anywhere.

Belarus has had the same president since 1994. Since he came into power, the country hasn't had a SINGLE FAIR ELECTION.

Covid-19 has caused many problems there. The country still hasn't imposed any official measures. The president has been quoted as saying 'I don't see any viruses here' and the country has had horrendous amounts of cases, I'm not even sure if the figures are accurate, they could be fabricated.

There is an election this year. Protests broke out in Belarus because of the imprisonment of the president's strongest competitors in the election. Random people have been arrested off the streets and the police have been violent.

The worst part is that there's very little media coverage.

A little more information about the situation in Belarus:

Today was the last day of the presidential elections.

A government exit poll stated that Aleksandr Lukashenko (the current president/dictator,that has been in power since 1994) won the elections by an 80%. Even though most polling stations showed that main opposition candidate: Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya, was ahead of Lukashenko. Tsikhanouskaya only became a candidate after her husband's arrest; Sergei Tsikhanouski, who was a presidential candidate. Also it is worth mentioning thatseveral members of Tsikhanouskaya’s staff were arrested just before the election and one of her main aides; Veronika Tsepkalo, fled the country.  

Tsikhanouskaya has said she does not recognize the outcome of the elections.  She stated: "I believe my eyes, and I see that the majority is with us".

The rigged elections triggered protests throughout the country, which later turned violent as Lukashenko claimed that any kind of protest will be met with an immediate response.

One example of this is the countries capital, Minsk where police shot rubber bullets,flash grenades, water cannons and tear gas at protestors.

Belarus is in open revolt right now and Wikipedia is in chaos

Basically, Lukashenko (death be upon him) tried to rig the election again, but the election office posted the results online before he could change them. These leaked results showed his opponent, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, winning by at least 60% consistently throughout all constituencies. She proclaimed victory and Lukashenko sent in the troops to quell subsequent demostrators in support of her. These guys fucking THREW DOWN THEIR SHIELDS and JOINED THE PROTESTORS. Now basically all Belarus wikipedias are engaged in a massive war of editing shit like flags and presidency and it’s AMAZING

Tears

I’m sitting and holding back my tears. In Poland now LGBTQ+ people are arrested for peacefully protesting for their rights. Police is using force against people with rainbow flags. Arrested activists  are disrespected and sexually assaulted at police stations. 

I am afraid.

So fucking afraid.

As a person that currently questions their sexuality, I feel unsafe. But it’s not about me. It’s about people being arrested randomly on the streets. About LGBTQ+ activist Margot, who is arrested for standing up against homophobic propaganda. That polish Catholic Church is spreading misinformation about homosexuality (”all gays are pedos” & stuff like that). And polish president, prime minister and majority of polish government are using their power against polish citizens.

Help, please.
