the way mikes speech in half-measures parallels his approach to jesse and walt’s relationship...how his attempts at helping ultimately leave him a bystander to abuse...how he relies too much on independence in hopes that the abuse victim will leave...how mike fails to see that leaving an abusive relationship isnt a matter of will, that as long as the abuser is in their life they will do everything in their power to keep their victim trapped...mike should have killed walt btw...

#i feel like mike parallels the audience in a lot of ways #with the thought process of 'why dont they just leave'#obviously to different extents - mike is incredibly sympathetic to jesse and encourages him to get out #but hes also comfortable remaining a bystander to abuse #and like. so often i see people ask 'why didnt skyler/jesse just leave?' they cant!!! thats the whole point!!! they cant leave!!!#walt wont let them!!!#and its fascinating how escaping abuse is conflated with free will in both the context of the show and in fans

people cant recognize skyler white as an abuse victim bc she doesnt fit the understanding of what a “real” female abuse victim is and its so fucking stupid. like people discredit walt’s abuse of skyler bc rather than giving up and cowering for her loser ass husband, skyler repeatedly tries to gain agency in her abusive situation. she subconsciously and consciously finds ways to balance out the power dynamic bc she recognizes her situation is wrong and is attempting to fix it, but instead of people seeing this behavior and going “oh this woman is in an abusive marriage and doing everything she can to protect herself/her kids”, they instead think that bc shes fighting back that means there is no abuse at all...like women can only be recognized as abuse victims if they are completely powerless and placated

(also i think theres an interesting point in jesse and skyler being the inverse of what the stereotypical gendered reaction to abuse is but i might be stretching it lol)
