Kim Soo-Ah's Bio
starter for: @ksooahm location: crescent moon café
haeun had been playing around with a new recipe she had been trying to perfectionate, nothing set in stone or coming from a book but from the sheer creativity of haeun's brain and tastebuds. the barista had been baking late at night until a moment of serendipity happened and the last batch was perfect. She remembers the explosion of flavors on her mouth and how quickly she rushed to write the modifications on her notebook while humming. Her grandmother had agreed with the amazing taste but the younger one knew that she couldn't trust her, she had burnt a batch of brownies when she had started baking and her grandmother had claimed they were delicious and because of that she had found other testers for her food.
the barista arrived to the cafe with a bright smile on her face, a happy skip on her steps as a clear indicator of her good mood. the box that held the source of her joy was placed on the back as she greeted her fellow workers, the baked sweets would have to wait for her break to show them to Chisato. Humming, the barista put her apron on and began working.
The day had been a busy one and only when she looked up from her work she noticed the opened box. Oh no. she thought as she approached a worker asking them about it. the words made her stomach sink as her dark orbs searched for the unnoffical treat that had been sold, she was going to get in trouble with her boss. yep, she was doomed. her brain could only think that. "excuse me, miss?" haeun asked, voice soft and eyes landing on the treat rather than the costumer. perhaps she could still save herself. "i'm sorry but it seems like there was a mix up with your order." haeun wanted to run away, hoping they had yet to try it but her hopes were quickly crashing down the longer she stared at the treat.
It was an amazing day. She had the day off, she slept amazingly for the first time in a long time, and she just got a brand new book. It was really a miracle, and to celebrate she was going to her favorite cafe for a cup of coffee.
Soo-Ah walked into the bustling business. It was already 4 p.m. but the people never ceased to appear. She wouldn’t blame them as the cafe had the best coffee and pastries in town, or well she thought. She waited in line as she inspected the sweets in the cases. She was craving something new and different. So far she had already tried the strawberry shortcake, the lemon tart, the creme brulee, and the bite-sized cookies. They all tasted amazing every time but she wanted something spontaneous.
As she reached the front of the line she ordered her usual Iced Americano and asked the barista if she had any new pastries to try. At first the barista shoke her head no but stopped mid shake as she reconsidered and headed to the back. As she waited another barista presented her coffee and the first barista came back with a delicious looking treat. It was a tarte of a sorts with the most delicious fruits and glaze on top. Soo-Ah’s mouth watered as she imagined the treat in her mouth. She paid for the coffee and sweet with glee and headed towards the nearest table.
She prepared her taste buds with a sip of her coffee and just as she was ready for the first bite a gorgeous girl appeared. She seemed troubled and panicked of sorts. Soo-Ah listened intently as she explained the situation and Soo-Ah sadly looked at the treat. “I was actually looking forward to the sweet. I have almost every pastrie that you sell and I really wanted something new” A small pout appeared on her face at the thought of losing her treasure. “May I please take a bite? I would just really love this treat”
... "Excuse me sir, may I ask if I can purchase that book from you?" She stood stall not wavering from her confidence as she continued. "You see I've been waiting for a long time for this release and I really, REALLY, need to know what happens next! I'll pay double, NO, triple the price" Soo-Ah pleaded as she stared at the book in his hand.
Yujin loved books.
Apart from providing the escape he so desperately needed as a young kid, it also served to put all of life’s miseries into perspective for him; a reminder that despite his daily plights and constant existential crises, we are all nothing but specks of dust on a floating rock, and that allowed Yujin to enjoy his fantasy books without guilt even if it meant dying tomorrow. The magic and pure joy it brought him was perhaps the closest thing Yujin had to companionship outside of work, but that’s not what he cared about right now.
Perhaps it was so very out of place to see a man fresh out of a meeting with his subordinates, his hair still slicked back with the telltale shine of super-high-hold Hanz De Fuko, holding the newest Lightlark book with his heart fluttering in anticipation. God forbid he let his excitement show; after all, he had managed to snag the last copy of Nightbane before he headed home and went to bed.
He was beginning to plan for the rest of his day, because how much sleep do you really need?, when he feels a light tap on his shoulder. He wheels around, his free hand jerking to his hidden holster out of instinct, only to find a woman who seemed harmless enough. Attractive, even, if he had allowed himself to dwell on it longer.
Until she started talking. A frown mars his face as he holds his beloved copy of Nightbane closer to his chest, unwilling to sell it to the stranger. He had gotten it fair and square, after waiting for hours for Page-Turners to open. Plus, he had all the money he could ever need, so there was no point in selling it to her for an exorbitant amount.
But Yujin pauses before he could whip out a sarcastic remark. He had always wanted someone to share his books with, as his private collection had grown to a point where he was struggling to find storage for his new purchases. He thinks back to the two dozen novels stacked haphazardly on his coffee table, and lets out a long breath.
“I won’t sell it to you.” He says, firmly, and he could have stopped at that. Instead, he adds, “But if you want to take turns reading it, we can arrange that. I have too many things on my reading list anyway.”
Yujin anticipates her answer. It was as good a deal as any; seeing as he could never fit book club meetings into his schedule, this could even be the closest thing he could get to experiencing the joy of nerding out about fantasy novels with someone else, especially the Lightlark series. For the first time in a long time, Yujin is feeling cautiously optimistic.
Soo-Ah stood stunned to the core. He wanted to share the book. That was something she would never imagine from a stranger, not even in a million years. But yet he had suggested it and it seemed a bit absurd. She could never imagine sharing a book and yet she was willing to do so if it meant she would still be able to read what comes next. She frowned and bit her lip as she pondered at the suggestion. More than likely the shop wouldn’t get another shipment for a couple more weeks as it had just been released, and the distribution would want to hit bigger stores more. Finally after what more than likely felt like forever to her and the stranger she spoke.
“I would like to share the book. Even though it is something I have never done before, I am more than willing to try this arrangement” She cautiously accepted his suggestion with a nod and a smile. “I’ll be honest I would not so easily accept this suggestion as I find books sacred and personal but it doesn't seem bad to share it”
“I also find it interesting to find someone umm” Soo-Ah looked up at the tall stranger and the cautionary aura filled her whole. “Well like you to like a series like that” She tilted her head as she inspected his features a bit more. He had a cold gaze that seemed to not exactly match his soft features. He looked like someone you would meet at a cafe or the park but yet his whole demeanor screamed danger. One thing she learned throughout the years was to never judge a book by its cover. Something she was noticing at that particular moment.
“I’m Kim Soo-Ah by the way but some friends call me Sammy” Soo-Ah extended a hand to the stranger and she finally introduced herself.
Soo-Ah loved her job. She loved the atmosphere, the people, and the electrifying feeling of the music. Another one of her favorite things is the new faces and the stories that come with them. Sometimes she would get the heartbreaks, the shy persona, the lonely eyes, and the life of the party. Seonah was a combination of the shy persona and the life of the party. She was a bit shy out on the open floor but once she was in a private singing booth she was full of life.
They had met before at the Seunju Sharehouse but never really interacted as Soo-Ah was always on the go with her activities and her job. She quickly recognized her that night and invited her over to a private room as her shift was slow. They instantly clicked as they belted out song after song away from the prying eyes of others. Both voices harmonizing and becoming one.
Soo-Ah waved her over as their eyes made contact and finished the Rainbow Parasite Cocktails she was preparing for a group of friends celebrating a birthday. Each layer of juice, rum, grenadine, and blue curacao was carefully placed in each glass. After handing over each glass she swiftly danced her way over to her to say hello.
"The night has been busy and keeping me on my toes but I will meet you soon once I have the time" Soo-Ah took a cocktail and muddled mint to the bottom of it. Right after she added rum, lime juice, simple syrup, and a scoop of ice. With a flick of her wrist, she capped it off and shook it vigorously with a couple of flips here and there. In a tall glass, she strained the solution and added a splash of soda with a lime and mint as garnish.
"Here is your mojito on the house! Don't forget to tell the host to use my minutes for the room and I will see you in an hour or so" Soo-Ah waved her off before turning to the next customer.
seonah watched in awe as soo-ah completed a strikingly pretty rainbow concoction for a group of people at the bar and clapped emphatically afterward. she strongly considered for a moment just hanging out there so she could watch her friend do her thing at the bar, but she knew these were likely soo-ah's busiest hours and didn't want to get in the way. still, she was certainly glad she'd gotten to see it while she was visiting.
the skillful bartender then moved onto seonah's drink, and once again, the latter's eyes were fixed to the process, taking in every detail. the great lengths she went to in order to do everything perfectly always astonished seonah, and it was obvious she had a lot of love for her craft. "ooooh, thank you~" seonah sang, as soo-ah slid her the expertly crafted mojito across the bar. she took a sip and closed her eyes in bliss, smacking her lips for dramatic effect. "ahh - your drinks are always perfect," she complimented her friend, reveling the minty aftertaste of the cocktail.
she listened carefully as soo-ah reminded her of what to tell the host and nodded in accordance with her words. "you got it! i'll see you soon, have a good shift!" she bid her friend goodbye and grabbed her drink before continuing down the hall which was pretty well lit compared to the singing rooms themselves. they were overall pretty dark, with special lighting effects that the patrons themselves could control while their friends were singing.
seonah came upon her designated singing room and entered, hitting one of the buttons on the control pad to bring the lights up slightly so she could see better. a karaoke machine stood dormant in the center of a large round table, with 8 wireless microphones laying in front of adjoining seats. seonah took one of them, placing her drink in front of her and enjoying a few more sips. when the host came to check on her a few moments later, she relayed soo-ah's message before turning her attention to the machine.
she figured she may as well warm her vocals up a bit, and it was a perfect time to practice singing in korean, something she'd always been especially self conscious doing. she went through the song list, settling on a mega popular k-pop song she'd sung along to in her head on the train before. as the song began, seonah hummed a few test words, trying to get comfortable with the sound of her voice over a speaker system again. she was getting better about it, but it could still take some getting used to when she first starts out. after a few quietly spoken lines, she began to get a little more into it; her head bobbed with a slight bit of rhythm and her voice faded in a bit louder and a little more confident. this song turned into that song. britney turned into hilariously botched ariana that she was reduced to giggles over; minutes ticked by and her first drink was long gone — now she was starting her third. before she knew it, an hour had passed and she was hearing the door handle jostle as she put her microphone down for an extended taste of her drink.
The customers started to slow down as the night went on and Soo-Ah finally had her first break. She told her coworker she would be gone for several minutes before preparing a tray of mojitos, shots, and a new recipe. It was a Daisy de Santiago recipe that had a similar taste to a mojito just a bit sweeter. She had practiced making it for several days until she got it right. As she placed the drink carefully in the middle she waved bye to her coworker and headed to the karaoke booth.
She had used the rooms many times before and always in private. She was shy about her voice even though many had told her that it sounded amazing. She imagines that’s why she clicked with Seonah so well. They were both scared to showcase their talents to the world. She gave a knock before entering Room 2. The atmosphere was already lively with flashing lights illuminating the dark room and the final notes of God is a Woman by Arian Grande lingering away. She placed the tray on the table that faced the screen before turning to Seonah.
“I’m sorry for taking so long but it is the weekend and that’s when many love to unwind” Soo-Ah apologized as she grabbed the Daisy de Santiago and handed it over to her.”This is a new recipe that I perfected for you to try. I read that it's a sweeter version of a mojito and that it doesn’t overwhelm the palette” Soo-Ah took one of the shots before looking through the song category. She had a long week and she needed to unwind the pent-up stress. She rummaged through until she found the perfect song.
Soo-Ah faced Seonah as the first notes of Hello Bitches by CL blared through the speakers.
OOC: Hello! I'm sorry for not doing replies so far I've just been super busy and had a bit of writers block but I have FINALLY have a day off tomorrow and will get those done❤️
🌜
Thunder. It was a thunderstorm late at night and I'm usually not one to let thunder rattle me but this particular night it did. The lights went out at the sharehouse and not a single soul could be heard shifting around. The thunder shook the sharehouse with every thunderous roar in the distance indicating that it was merely a couple miles away. It was terrifying and I spent the rest of the night scared witless at nature.
⭐️☕️🍚
⭐ I currently don't have any hobbies that can only be done at night (unless we count other activities then that's a different story😏)
☕ I can drink coffee at night but only if I have something very important that needs to be done. Usually I have a cup of tea at night.
🍚 My favorite midnight snack is some ramen with rice and some kimchi on the side. Sometimes it's some chicken or just a bowl of rice with seaweed.
🌠 🛸 🍾
🌠 I would wish under a shooting start to see my brother one last time and to let him know that I love him dearly
🛸 I have never seen a UFO before but I do believe in aliens
🍾 (I'm going to go with an after-hours job story) My craziest after-hour story would be when I was closing one night and a drunk customer waited for me to get off work and started to stalk me on my way home. Thankfully, I was able to scare him off after confronting him but I asked a dear friend to walk me home for a couple of nights.
