“  this is insane,  ”  semi laughs dryly. it’s less a comment about how incongruous he feels in his ill-fitting, too-long salaryman suit when compared to ushijima’s impressive athletic build and well-fitted team jersey, and more about how absurd it is that a mutual friend in france could have the kind of influence that would get him to reconnect with an old classmate who has far exceeded him in terms of success.

if it was the first case, he’d probably follow up with something like, “i haven’t seen you in ages, so i guess it’s natural that you’ve changed a lot. you look really good!” but since it’s not—— since it’s the second case—— he instead huffs in a tone of mild disbelief,  “  that bastard, tendo…. ”

he doesn’t even live in tokyo, let alone japan, and the guy is already pulling puppet strings through cyberspace to get his high school teammates to go to dinner together and catch up. honestly, semi is impressed. he probably should have offered sooner, but hesitated because he felt that going pro meant you left high school behind, and even if he asked ushijima probably wouldn’t agree. and yet, a few texts from tendo to ushijima, and a few hundred from him to semi—— since it’s much harder to convince a stubborn, crabby person—— and he’s made the seemingly impossible possible.

“  uhhh,  ”  he starts, awkwardly pulling up the sleeves of his suit jacket, not quite sure if he should take it off now or wait until he’s had a few drinks and warmed up,  “  … you drink?  ”  the scent of yakitori always makes him want a beer, and semi almost feels like he needs one to get over how stiff he feels.  “  i prefer kirin.  ”

why, exactly, is it his responsibility to make this event happen? semi narrows his eyes in irritation, and feels himself instinctively crossing one arm over the other as he steps to the sidelines of practice towards shirabu.

well, realistically, he knows why it’s his responsibility. neither tendo nor ushijima can be expected to extend invitations properly—— both are off-putting, for different reasons. neither gives enough information about the event details, and both seem to believe that attendance is already guaranteed, so they usually end their invitation with, “then i’ll see you there” before they get a reply. ushijima is too intense, like he might drill holes into someone with his eyes if they seem hesitant… and tendo is too outwardly pressuring, invoking phrases like “oh, so you’re a wet blanket type?” until they eventually cave from embarrassment.

that makes him the sacrifice. semi doesn’t particularly think he’s any good at this task, but being better than tendo and ushijima is apparently good enough. he can probably scrounge up a decent amount of participants from the team, but if it’s shirabu, then maybe ushijima would be more efficient after all. it’s no secret that there’s tension between them, but most of the team seems to ignore it.

for his own part, semi’s just bothered by the kid’s attitude. and maybe that’s why he comes off a bit strongly when, with arms crossed and eyes narrowed, he announces,  “  the team is going hiking this weekend. reon’s idea. we’ll get up early in the morning and take the city bus out to taihaku mountain, climb it, and be back at the dorms in time for dinner. it’ll be good for you, so you should do it.  ”

he words it like it’s not really a choice, and cringes internally when he recognizes he may not be any better than tendo and ushijima in this regard. he only means…  “  the whole starting lineup is going, so it’d be pretty obvious if you didn’t come, too.  ”  it seems like it softens.

my soccer oc is named kubo akiya (久保昭矢), he’s the vice captain of the karasuno soccer club (a second year) and honestly could be a leader on any of the sports teams. he’s incredibly athletic and excels in every sport that he plays, though in exchange for this skill he tends to underperform in academic work. he’s not stupid and it’s not like he doesn’t try his best—— he’s just not as intellectual as he is athletic. 

he’s really popular among boys in his class, and while girls think he’s fun to talk to they don’t really “like” him because they think he’s immature for a high schooler (bc he prefers athletics to academics… and he doesn’t take class seriously sometimes). 

pretty good, engaging conversationalist, and he always tries to include everyone in a conversation (though he’s not ignorant and if someone doesn’t want to talk then he knows not to force them). people call him akiya-kun (aki-kun or aki-chan as a joke by his friends). 

he plucks his eyebrows and the soccer team makes fun of him for it, but he has the cleanest brows you’ve ever seen in your life. super tan from playing soccer out in the sun all the time. he knows way too many trick shots/trick moves with the ball. he rolls up his uniform sleeves and he doesn’t always tuck in his shirt. wears graphic t-shirts under the uniform to change into for practice easily, and they show through the white cotton really clearly. his favorite food is indian butter chicken curry, and he loves going to sendai to eat indian food—— always gets naan the size of his head.

yaku headcanons I guess

his laugh is an actual gremlin cackle it’s so unattractive and he doesn’t notice it

he’s very stylish and wears a lot of uniqlo/gu-style clothes. he prefers them slightly loose and usually in plain colors ( not a lot of prints ). he always wears clean slacks ( he thinks they make his legs look longer ) and leather loafer shoes, but his shirts vary from button-up to sweater to suit jacket to t-shirt

i bet he likes edm like porter robinson and avicii...

sensitive to hot foods... lil bb has to blow on his soup to cool it down ( in japanese, aversion to hot foods is called “cat’s tongue” is that not adorable )

avid mobile gamer. he plays lots of rhythm games, battle games, puzzle games, etc. whenever he’s on the bus or subway in the city, he’s on his phone playing games.

he adores saunas. so much. after he moved to russia, he awarded himself a vacation trip to finland just to go try out the world-famous saunas. he also chose his gym membership solely based on whether or not the facilities included a sauna and ice bath.

this is literally the most random headcanon but i think if he ever went to a halloween party his costume would be a bumblebee but not by choice. he wanted to be like... james dean in a leather jacket or something

“   oof !   ”   sometimes , it can’t be helped—— trying to soften the high-flying pass of a soccer ball by using your head , and the ball takes a mind of its own and goes flying in another random direction. it’s not what akiya hopes for when he’s given such a solid kick , but it’s not like he can fully control the ball. physics—— the speed , the gravity , the force—— stuff like that ... he can't control that.

but luckily , the ball just hits another head. better than an arm or a leg where it could leave a bruise ( god forbid he accidentally hit a girl and made her bruise , because she’d complain about it in front of all his friends and then he'd never hear the end of it ) ! comparatively , heads are better. and anyways ... this guy ... haha !   “  ooh , nice head ! you must have a hard skull !   ”

really , oikawa should give himself a pat on the back for this. ( and he does , graciously , though he makes a note to do it again later out loud ). the fact that he'd managed to make something like this happen despite still being under the critical supervision of iwa-chan ... it's a victory. a satisfying victory that makes the corners of his mouth pull upwards in a smug grin.

but really , it was easier than he thought. that bokuto guy seems to be down for anything , as is hinata by virtue of being such a diligent kouhai ... and this miya guy is stupidly competitive enough to take a challenge when it's offered. oikawa didn’t even have to push himself to get them to come out drinking with him—— like moths to a light , they all came themselves. 

what makes oikawa particularly satisfied with this arrangement is the simple knowledge that someone will get messy. his money is on hinata ( he’s seen it happen before in brazil ) , but it wouldn’t be entirely fair to place his bet on someone he knows as capable. argentina—— or rather , his team of argentinian athletes—— has taught oikawa how to drink. though there’s still the telling glow in his cheeks which he can feel after he’s requested his third pint of asahi beer , he doesn’t feel like he’s losing himself. 

rather , things are just getting interesting.   “   spin the bottle ?   ”   he helps himself to an empty bottle not yet bussed from the table , raising it and giving it a taunting little shake. his eyebrows raise , and he sets his gaze onto miya. come on , you competitive brat. take the bait.   “   hmh hmh ...   ”   he chuckles mildly.

“   but let me spin for you , miya ,   ”   oikawa tilts the bottle , using the neck to point to the object of his belittling.   “   i noticed it today during practice ... but your coordination isn’t that good , and i think it’d be unfortunate for our waitress if you spun this and knocked something off the table.   ”

surely , that will get him into the game. oikawa doesn’t even hesitate to listen for an answer ; he sets the bottle down in the center of the table , and using his long ( good for coordination ) fingers , spins it counter-clockwise. it’s just like giving a volleyball a lucky spin in your hands before a serve ... except here , you don’t necessarily know how it will land when released. that’s quite true , he realizes , when the bottle begins to slow ... and stops with its neck pointed at him himself. 

“  hah.   ”   oikawa stares at the bottle , pushing his tongue into his cheek absentmindedly. this is what iwa-chan would call ‘ karma , ’ right ?   “   unlucky of me.   ”

😍 – a first kiss from atsumu to kita O_O! he is so nervous. palms sweaty arms are heavy

" you look like yer gonna throw up , yan , " kita can't say that he's ever seen atsumu look so sickly , beyond the times when he actually was sick. it gives him pause for a moment , makes him straighten his back and pull his hand away from atsumu's. all he did was touch him , and suddenly this happened ... " did'ya get food poisoning ? y'know you shouldn't buy the end-of-the-day sushi from the convenience store , even if it's discounted. the fish goes bad. "

even children know that. raw meat spoils quicker than one thinks , and even though the price of old sushi might be attractive , it isn't good for the stomach. but atsumu likes tuna , doesn't he ? it could've been a temptation.

kita frowns , and scans atsumu's face intently. he's pale , sweating , and can't look kita in the eye—— seems like he got sick.

he sighs , and sets his palm on top of his thigh. it's rude to wipe it right away , so he wipes slowly ... naturally , like he's just fiddling with his hands out of boredom. ( but kita doesn't fiddle ). if atsumu is sick—— food poisoning or something else that's contagious—— he doesn't want to become a carrier himself. he'll wash it as soon as he gets atsumu home to rest properly , kita decides.

only ... seems like he doesn't really have any control over becoming a carrier or not , does he ? despite the sickly look on atsumu's face , and the fact that kita has already suggested to him that it might be a case of food poisoning from old sushi , his kouhai gives him a kiss ... directly on the lips.

at first , kita's mouth tugs into a tight , displeased shape. he's sure atsumu can feel it , because even he himself notes the tension at the corners of his lips. he moves back , and prepares to scold ( and advise against doing that again , given his condition ) , but the pieces fall together in his head , and kita understands. ah. that's what's happening.

" pff—— " there's the start of a laugh in his throat , but it doesn't quite spring free. kita is more amused than anything else—— by the fact that atsumu looks so sick , that for all his boasting and pride he's actually quite a wimp , and that kita himself had misunderstood it all. silly and stupid. well , that's to be expected of a kouhai , right ? " that's what ya were tryin' to do ? yer lead-up was awful. "

... really awful.

semi’s family is quite politically active. his grandfather held public office, both his parents were involved in local politics (forums and voting registration events, etc. etc.), so he grew up around debate and discussion a lot. though he doesn’t look like it, he’s pretty invested in politics and is willing to launch into a spiel about it at any moment’s notice. he’s also upfront about his political views when prompted—— he knows that they can make people uncomfortable and that it’s not necessarily professional/appropriate to bring his thoughts up in some circumstances, but he’s not the type of person to hide who/what he voted for if asked.
