The King and the Clown (ìì ëšì)
I haven't cried so much in a long time. Before I begin the waterworks though, let's start at the beginning. I've been meaning to watch this movie for a while and have finally done so after watching from another show that referenced it. The movie based on a play by Kim Tae-woong titled Yi and I would like to read it, but I can't seem to find a readable file anywhere. Aside from that, I finally watched the movie. It dealt with the contrasting lives of a simple "clown" and of a royal king. It's like a reflection of today's classes: the elite and the rest of the classes. Unlike the elite though, the monarch would punish those greatly who would oppose him. What a dangerous time the olden days were. Life was much more valuable. The first part of the movie is all fine and dandy. Even comedic, in a sense. Then, it takes a dark turn, a turn for the worse. Finally, it ends with a very emotional scene. Every time I hear that one song from the soundtrack, I can't help but cry. I felt depressed for the rest of the day and kept listening to that one song, constantly driving myself to tears. However, I was able to get some inspiration and expressiveness from it. I always like to get some whenever I expose myself to art such as this. If you ever have two hours to spare, you should give this movie a watch.
