The attempts now underway to change how we make software all seem to start with the same premise: Code is too hard to think about. Before trying to understand the attempts themselves, then, it’s worth understanding why this might be: what it is about code that makes it so foreign to the mind, and so unlike anything that came before it.
Virgin Media and Sky generated the fewest complaints in Q2.
According to new figures from the regulator, the total volume of complaints it received against telecoms providers fell slightly between April and June.
However, broadband and fixed line services continued to generate the highest number of complaints during this time.
BT came top of the list with 26 complaints per 100,000 subscribers in Q2 - more than any other broadband provider.
Plusnet was not far behind, with 23 complaints per 100,000 subscribers, while EE and TalkTalk both racked up 21 complaints per 100,000 subscribers.
This meant they were well ahead of the industry average of 15 complaints per 100,000 subscribers.
Most of the complaints against these companies related to faults, service and provision issues, while many also arose due to concerns with charges, pricing and billing, as well as how they dealt with complaints.
Nevertheless, the figures were a slight improvement on Q1, when EE led the way with 34 complaints per 100,000 subscribers, while BT, TalkTalk and Plusnet generated 31, 30 and 27 complaints per 100,000 subscribers respectively.
Sky was the subject of the fewest complaints during Q2, with just five per 100,000 subscribers being received by Ofcom.
Virgin Media also performed strongly throughout the quarter, as it accounted for only seven complaints per 100,000 subscribers.

Ding noted that developing a common standard for 5G will require open cooperation between all regions and countries, including Europe, Asia, and the Americas. In terms of technology, we should avoid multiple standards or standards lagging behind deployment. In terms of spectrum, we need global agreement on which spectrum is easily available. This way, we can cut costs and enable seamless interconnectivity around the world.
During the panel session, “Industry interview: Lessons in innovation, across continents and into technology”, Ding explained that there have been three waves of industry digitalisation. In the first wave, internet companies like Google and Amazon were the leaders. The second wave is sweeping through traditional service industries such as telecom and financial services. The third wave is just starting in the real economy, in industries such as automobiles, manufacturing, and power grids.
The next decade will, he said, be a decade of digitalisation of traditional industries. During this process, industries will play a key role and connectivity will be the cornerstone.

Nokia is expanding its exclusive partnership with China Unicom for the high-end core router CR-B for three continuous years with its large-capacity core router platform - the 7950 Extensible Routing System (XRS). China Unicom selected the 7950 XRS family to build a more intelligent, flexible and scalable core network with the ability to meet future capacity demands and support the country's national broadband plan.
China Unicom initially deployed the 7950 XRS into metro networks in six provinces - Beijing, Shandong, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Inner Mongolia and Qinghai - and this year plans to scale out to an additional four including Heilongjiang, Henan, Zhejiang and Hunan to improve speed and response times for the fixed and mobile broadband subscribers.
Following a recent meeting with the Head of Public Affairs at EE, Dumfries and Galloway MP Richard Arkless has this week received confirmation from the telecoms firm that they will prioritise the A75 trunk road for improved 4G coverage.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Municipality of Enschede, the Province of Overijssel, Unmanned Systems Center B.V. and Area Development Twente, Nokia will design and deliver the infrastructure to test and develop the Nokia UTM system at Twente Airport through real-life simulations and commercial demonstrations.
The Nokia UTM solution will provide the flight automation, no-fly zone control and beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) capability that will be vital for the safe operation of UAVs in densely populated cities, as well as remote rural areas. UAVs must be able to operate without endangering manned aircraft operations, requiring the development of highly dynamic no-fly zones together with enforcement of civil aviation regulations.

Nokia is to supply wired and wireless communications to support data transmission, operational telephony, TETRA radio, passenger information systems, public announcement systems and CCTV.
The extension would add 2·2 km and three stations to Line H. The contractor is a consortium of Techint, Dycasa and UTE.
‘The deployment of an IP-based network in the Buenos Aires metro system will support a wide range of both operational and passenger services for metro users in Argentina’s largest city,’ said Nokia’s Head of Sales, Global Enterprise & Public Sector LATAM Javier Rey.
