CCS Colloquium: Shaping Society Through Technology
"Pinpoint on your strengths and weaknesses then work from there." (Tolentino, 2014)
It is always told to us by our professors, parents and other relatives that in order to excel in life you should have a goal. Goal-setting is the milestone in actually achieving something, but before you can achieve your goal you must first have a PLAN.
Planning, is very essential in every aspect of our lives and even in academic life. A good plan consists of different ways and/or paths in achieving or reaching a goal. But most importantly, a plan should have its own back-up plan if all else fails. The main point of this is that as early as now, we should start making plans for our future.
There are two points that I learned in the whole seminar: (1) Strengths and weaknesses and learning how to use them, (2) dream big.
Strengths and weaknesses
It was emphasized in the different talks that despite of having several weaknesses, we should not be afraid; we should not be afraid of taking risks because these risks might be the one that can lead us to success; and also that we should always trust ourselves. Risks comes before the reward and we should always remember that.
It was also emphasized that having a weakness is not a hindrance for an individual to excel in his work. I can really relate to this because personally, I think I have greater weaknesses than strengths but I push myself even more in order to overcome it.
DREAM BIG
There is nothing wrong with dreaming big and wishing for success but in order to achieve our dream, we should put all our efforts into work. I learned that as long as you are determined to reach your dreams then I won't stop! Dreaming big is what keeps us going, it serves as our motivation to do better at our work.
