narratively I am a fan of romances that don’t ever actually become romances

I don’t mean in an aromantic life partner way, I mean romantic tension that is never resolved or acted upon for whatever reason but by the end it’s clear that both characters experienced the love of their lives without ever acknowledging it as such. but they know. they know.

Okay this may not be everyone’s opinion but,

The Wicked King is the best book in the trilogy.

It’s Cardan becoming confident in himself and in his love for Jude,

It’s Jude learning she’s always been capable of being great but people told her she wasn’t,

It’s two stubborn people falling in love but are too scared to admit it because they have a lot to work through,

The Queen of Nothing is easily a close second but TWK really dives into them as people AND then as a couple,

It also has some of the best YA plot points EVER (thank you Holly Black)
