WIP of a UC Faerie Kyrii (And I’ll post a more reblog-able version without the textwall once it’s a bit more finished-- but for now, Imma character ramble)
If any follower of this blog is unaware: I like Kyrii. It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that I love to look at the UC ones and gently brainstorm-- while keeping in mind that owning a UC Kyrii is not actually a possibility for me. It’s a fun little thing. YOLO.
Except I have a friend who recently has gotten back into advertising her UC, and she’s like “Yeah if I can’t find anything I like, I’ll probably just trade for something for you” and I’m like T NOOOO KEEP YOUR STUPIDLY NICE PET FOR YOURSELF Y WOUD U DO THT i CaNt--
like she even had me look at some UC Kyrii??? I’m like T NOOOO
anyway, it got me revisiting some old designs, and revamping new ones, just for funsies.
The UC faerie, I can’t decide quite what I want. For some reason I see Kyrii, especially the UC faerie, as masculine-- even in my mind, a female UC faerie is pretty androgynous??? so this is my first time designing a visually feminine UC Faerie Kyrii. Not sure if i’ll keep it like that.
I can’t decide what her magic is, either.
Originally she had breath and wind magic, where she could enchant the air with various properties. Sharp whistles that cast luck upon a group, gentle whispers with a calming embrace; a light song of happiness, a strong gust laced with vitality. Magic so subtle that she appeared to have none, yet her presence could make all the difference. It wasn’t until you were caught in a hurricane that you realized just how strong she could be. Though she could give true meaning to a “breath of life,” it’s hard to remember that when she squanders so much magic by playfully blowing kisses.
When she took her small faerie form, she could stay at the nape of some adventurer, safely curled into a hood, collar, or scarf. She could whisper her encouragements, and shout her objections with a stunningly strong voice; tiny spells, but enough to let her fight alongside some of the greatest Neopian warriors and explorers, off seeing the world. A noble companion... however, ultimately, perhaps not by choice. People have been perfecting Faerie-catching for years, eager to have their power under control. Though she was an individual, she was also a tool. Magically bound to an artifact, maybe; an item to be passed from warrior to adventurer. Surely, something people would kill to have...
Next, she had the ability to enchant items made my her. She began her career enchanting the armor and weapons of Battledomers and Warriors. She made charms to keep adventurers safe, and trinkets to bring fortune to families... She became sought-after. Soon, people came to her with their tragedies, dumping their burdens onto her, begging for a charm-- after all, if you had the power to make people happy... shouldn’t you do it? Shouldn’t you do it as much as you could?
For years she allowed people to approach her in her own home, at her work, on the streets... morning, noon, and night... no matter her own perils. Nobody cared for her, it seemed. Some days she scarcely received a “hello,” and she rarely ever heard, “how are you?” No, it was only ever, “please, please, please... my family,” or, “my love,” or “my child,” or “my friend... please help...” and each time she would send them away with a trinket. She remembers every item she ever made. Each time someone left with one, it felt like they were taking a piece of her with them.
If “eternal gratitude” could pay the bills, she’d have been a billionaire. Yet, her wholesome work only ever made her feel less and less whole...
A few other options are rattling around, but none are quite so developed.
...Anyway, regardless, nobody can say for sure what happened to her. After years of service, whatever it was, she simply disappeared. Some say there had been an event. Some say her magic had simply run out, abused beyond her own sanity. Some even say a faerie hunter came for her, tried to take her-- Regardless, she’s long gone.
There’s a bakery off the path to Faerieland, and you’ll hear the occasional chatter that the owner looks much like the still-sought faerie. She’s gentle but firm-- few have gotten farther than hearing “This is a bakery,” and “If you aren’t going to buy anything, then maybe you should get out of the line.”
It’s a nice place, apparently. The coffee is pretty great.
