summary: reader's hallucination is everything she asks for, even though her neck is pressed, and air starts to be missed, she hopes it lasts forever. kaz, on the other hand, wants nothing more than to wake her up. (fem!reader and a bit of dark!kaz if you squint)
Whatever plan that kaz made up that day, y/n was particulary sure, that it wasn't going to work.
it was too risky. relying way too much on trust - something that the bastard of the barrel uterelly despised - made everything worse.
things started getting unsettling as soon as the decorated front doors closed with a loud sound. inej and tolya did the best they could - as always, quick on their feet, grabbing the locks and trying hardly to pull it apart - but even that wasn't enough.
and then, a - weird looking - red gas started to fullfil the whole room, and instantly, y/n started to feel dizzy. like she couldn't really breath, her head was heavier, and falling asleep looked like much better of an option. the girl took one last look at everyone at the tiny space.
'i still look at you with eyes that want you
when you move, you make my oceans move too
if i hear my name, i will run your way'
jesper was already on the ground, it didn't take him long to fall, muttering something the girl couldn't even understand. inej went out just a couple of seconds later, falling quietly, like she wasn't even there. tolya followed right after.
the girl's eyes peacefully traveled to the last person in the room. to the deadliest boy in ketterdam, who looked like he needed a good and long night of sleep, while the deep, blue, orbes, were shaking in desperation. what would they do now?
she wasn't sure, but wouldn't mind him being the last thing she saw. and finally, after closing her eyes, y/n let her body do what intended to do.
'can we say that we love each other
can we play like there ain’t no other
if i hear my name, i will run your way'
dark.
everything y/n saw for a couple of seconds was a black immensity. she took a feel deep breaths, and felt relaxed, in peace. nothing like she ever felt before. once the girl's eyes were properly opened - even though she felt like sleeping a bit more would be particularly nice - she found herself at the crow club.
not the lobby, full of people - the gambling people she despised so much - those who would bet their money on everthing they could put their hands one. people that sipped drinks until they're dead. people that y/n avoided with her whole life. but that wasn't it.
it was the second floor. she was inside one of the old rooms, the ones that were basically useless at this point. the girl held herself up by her elbows, and straitghned her back. quickly looking around so she could fine anyone. the club was never quiet like that.
she got to her foot in a couple of seconds - her legs felt weak, even though she knew something was wrong, for some reason, it was impossible to figure it out what it was - and breaking the silence, making the girl turn her head immediately to the room's door. she heard him.
"y/n."
the stern tone wasn't there anymore.
not ordering anyone, acting like he was mad - something he was found of - or completing a job. not even the sarcastic one, he used in tiny, very specific moments, followed by a very much irritaded grin. no. it wasn't anything like this. the way he called her this time it was soft, almost delicate.
it was nothing like him. and still, made the girl turn to the corner the following sound came from. like there were something pulling her legs, a beautiful butterfly right in front of her, and she needed to follow it.
'i was lost until I found me in you
i saw a side of me that I was scared to
but now I hear my name and I’m running your way'
"kaz?"
y/n kept walking. the place was familiar, but the corridors looked and felt much bigger than ever. there was no reason for her to keep looking where the sound came from - the door, at the end of the hall, was the only one opened, with q dash of light coming from it. - kaz study. she could feel her heart beating faster than ever once the door knob was opened, revealing him.
'all I feel as I get closer to you
is the desire to move like you do
so now I hear my name and I’m running your way'
"you're here." kaz stated.
in fact, he was there. his back supported by the dark wooden desk. kaz was wearing black, as usual. but the white shirt sleeves were folded to half of his arms, making a great pair with the black vest, the undone tie and the way his hair was falling to his face, just like she saw him after a fight.
"did you need me for something?"
"i did," the boy simply replied. his voice as soft as ever. "yes."
the girl entered the room, walking straight to him, with her hands behind her back like she would always do. her fingertips touched the soft fabric of her dress - a dark blue flannel one - the one she told nina about, but it was way out of her league to get it.
he stayed quiet. the blue orbes she so deeply knew were burning into her skin, she could almost feel it. they were both facing each other, and y/n felt like she was dreaming for a moment, she got lost in all of it. all of the perfectness. it wasn't real, was it?
y/n took a deep breath, realizing everything that was happening right in front of her, and in a subtle moment, kaz started to take his gloves off. calmly and quiet, like he had all the time in the world, before putting it on his desk, letting it rest there. the girl gulped, and he stared at his one hand for a moment.
"may i?" the dark haired boy asked softly. quietly. the only person who needed to hear that was right in front of him. the most delicate girl in ketterdam - with her sickening sweet smile, and her fast moving hands - what else he would ask for?
"yes." she simply replied, and her waist was automatically took by kaz's - now ungloved - hand. the unusual touch was enough for her to feel an electric line traveling trough all her body. it was different. it didn't felt like him. but it felt good. it felt almost right.
dirtyhands pushed her close to him, close enough so she could feel his breathing on her face, their noses touching, the eyes closed. close enough so the boy could rest his other hand on her cheek, while her mouth was parted open. close enough so y/n could be distracted enough.
and then it started.
it happend way to quickly for her likely. at one moment she was living everything she ever dreamed of. that boy's hands - the boy she admired so much, who was so kind to her, when there was no reason for him to be - on her cheek. and in the other, pressing up against her neck.
y/n knew she wouldn't last very long. she wasn't the best fighter after all, even if inej insisted day after day for her to practice, he was stronger, and the surprise factor made the girls legs pratically fail. the boy she so deep cared for was choking her. and there wasn't a single drop of pity in those eyes.
"did you actually think i was going to protect you forever?" those eyes that were dark. dark just like everthing she saw before this. the sickenly grin on his face didn't make her blush or shiver, it just made the girl want to scream. but she couldn't.
she couldn't even breath.
'i give my all now, cant you see
why wont you set me free?
you got power over me'
on the other side, the crows couldn't be more worried.
the butterfly worked for everyone. inej was the first. handed by wylan, who wished he could've done more, using his - until now - useless knowlodge to save his friends. tolya, jesper and kaz were next, and even after a bit of bantering, and almost throwing up, it worked.
y/n's one wasn't turning up to be what they expected it.
the girl was struggling while inej tried to keep the insect in her mouth, trying so hard to make her swallow it. her whole body was shaking, and it was almost like she was gasping for air.
kaz felt that desperation only one time before. and he wouldn't even dare let that happen to somebody else.
the boy let his cane fall to the ground, and sat himself at one knee, kneeling over the girl's body on the floor, taking inej's spot. he took his trembeling hands, to y/n's mouth, making sure there was no way she could throw it out. the other one went straight to her cheek, caressing it softly.
"you need to wake up." he muttered, more to himself then to anyone else in the room. his gloved hand kept on the top of the girls mouth, who whole body shook, trying to get rid of something kaz wasn't even aware of. "c'mon, y/n."
and finally. thanking all the saints he could. y/n swallowed the butterfly, and sat back straight, coughing.
kaz got back on his feet as soon as he could, taking a step back from her, letting the blue orbes stare at the floor. he'd rather not make a conversation about this. sometimes, hard decisions were needed, and that for certain was one of those.
"oh, saints, are you okay?" inej helped the girl to get back at her feet as well, holding her by her elbows, while she nodded, staring straight at the boy in front of them.
"did anyone else get lulled into a comforting sense of joy?" jesper asked, his eyes still watery.
"i didn't see anything." kaz was the first one to answer. anyone could feel the lying in his words. they weren't still and calm as usual. it was irritated, desperated, almost sad.
"neither did i." the girl quietly sniffed, quickly cleaning up the edge of tears that formed in her eyes, hoping that no one would notice. she wouldn't tell anyone. she couldn't. it was overwhelming enough for one person. and y/n knew, she wasn't the one he would settle down for - god, was there anyone? - so there was no reason to keep her hopes up.
is a dangerous thing, it clouds the mind.
kaz always told her that, after all.
'all you did was confuse me
you're no longer what i need
touch me slow, feel my heart bleed
i am ready now, i am ready now.'
okay! so i'm definetely accepting kaz brekker requests! let me know if you want a song based one, a blurb, a fic, anything you may like! i'll write steamy but not smut! send it in!
hi! welcome to this new kaz blog ig! this is just a tiny blurb and the main quote is from an amazing blog @thesuntomyshadows. hope you enjoy it, and feel free to ask anything!
summary: when y/n saw the real kaz. quote based "i don't really believe in guns." x "well trust me, they're very real." with fem!crow!reader x kaz. 😋
Kaz's witch wasn't really sure when she started working with dirty hands.
it should've started with a one time thing. easy job. doing whatever it was he said it and getting some great amount of kruges out of it.
unfortunately, a one time thing became four, five and six, and within months she started to be part of a barrel gang - something she promised to the saints and her father she would never do. y/n wouldn't admit it, but it was way to easy to fell in love with all of kaz's razzle dazzle.
this time, though, it should've been an easy one. the girl didn't had a lot of details, but once it was just her, jesper and the boss himself, she considered it to be a small thing. do some pretending, get into a simple fight, and get out of there with whatever it was that kaz needed.
"just a little something before you do your thing."
it was her usual job. being bait. hiding poorly in the corner's, pretending to be helpless and desperate, before pulling one of her favorite tricks at one of the disgusting pekka rolling's man. but it was no surprise to anyone that kaz brekker's witch was able to do a lot of things with her hands, even though no one were really sure how.
the improvising part of the plans weren't really y/n's cup of tea. but working for the bastard of the barrel always came with a surprise. kaz never let anything more than the bare minimum slip. nevertheless, she accepted whatever he needed it, never questioning it. it was unpredictable, almost cruel.
until he holds out a gun for her. taking it quietly, observing the piece like she'd never seen it before, it was too heavy, too violent, and definitely way out of anything the girl ever agreed on doing. jesper would probably find that funny. messing with people's hearts was okay, but guns? crossing the line.
"i don't really.." she gulped, fixing her own dress skirt. the dark grey flannel wasn't even close to nina's sunny orange, or inej's elegant turquoise. but it was discreet and delicate, it was y/n's. looking at the gun one more time, she continued. "i don't really believe in guns."
the girl delicatetly pushed it back to his gloved hands, with a tiny smile on her face. y/n knew that doing that was equivalent to walking on thin ice; denying anything to boss, in a particular dangerous moment, wasn't her best idea.
"well," the boy stared at her. the intense gaze seemed to last forever, while the girl could feel the deep blue orbes burning into her skin. he accepted the piece. "trust me, they're very much real." the stern voice, the usual. no sympathy for the girl's dislikes about the weapon, or simply a consideration of changing a tiny bit of one of his plans. not that she was expecting it. "now take it."
quickly, he put it back on her soft hands - the one's that looked like it haven't seen a day of work - slowly securing it, showing her the way she should hold a piece like that. the boy's stare traveled from her hands to her eyes once more, in a silent question if it was really okay. the girl nodded.
"go ahead then."
the crow king whispered, and placed her finger on the trigger. it almost felt like someone else. she couldn't really put her finger to it, but y/n would swear on her whole life she saw the way his gaze softened. even for just a moment. the girl nodded once more, and with a tiny smile - a real one, this time - she secured the gun in her hand.
"ready to go, boss?" jesper didn't gave her enough time to go back to her designated place, so the grin was placed on the gunslinger's face while he payed a lot of attention to the scene happening in front of him.
the girl took a step back, fixing up her skirt once more - like it needed to - and gave her friend a tiny smile. brekker, on the other hand, simply nodded, taking a deep breath, and fixed his already messy dark hair. it was show time, and the trickster needed to be ready.
there she find him again. the bastard of the barrel. the deadliest boy in ketterdam.
and even if it were just for a single second, y/n felt something different when she saw the real kaz brekker. even though the crow girl couldn't really figure it out what it was yet.
