Can't let you go
AU-Widower Zayne with kids and fell in love with MC got insecure and jealous (just want to see Zayne act possessive a little bit leave me alone)
Zayne was silent.
Too silent.
MC could feel his eyes on her, sharp and unrelenting, but he hadnβt said a word since they got home.
The tension was suffocating.
She finally sighed and turned to him. βAlright, just say it.β
His jaw clenched. βSay what?β
βYouβve been glaring at me all night.β She crossed her arms. βJust spit it out.β
Zayne exhaled slowly, his fingers twitching at his sides. And thenβ
βI heard him.β
MC blinked. βWhat?β
Zayneβs gaze darkened.
βYour friend.β His voice was cold, but there was something elseβsomething tightly restrained. βHe said I should let you go. That you shouldnβt be tied down to me.β
MC froze.
Oh.
Zayneβs fists clenched. βAnd you didnβt deny it.β
βIββ
He took a step closer. βWhy?β
MC swallowed. βI didnβt understand what he meant at first. Butβ¦ I think I do now.β
Zayneβs entire body stiffened.
She sighed. βI need to talk to him.β
Zayne stopped breathing.
The blood drained from his face, and for the first time since she had met himβhe looked terrified.
Zayneβs hands were shaking.
His entire body was tense, but his voice was eerily calm.
βYouβreβ¦ going to talk to him?β
ββ¦Youβre leaving?β he whispered, and God, he sounded so broken.
MC sighed. βZayne, thatβs not what I meantββ
βNo.β
Her breath caught.
Zayne stepped closer, his eyes dark, his expression unreadable.
βNo,β he repeated, voice hoarse, as if the word itself physically hurt. βI canβt let you go to him.β
MC blinked. βWhatβ?β
His hands found her waist, gripping tightlyβas if sheβd vanish the moment he let go. His fingers dug in, not enough to hurt, but enough to tell her one thing.
He wasnβt letting her go.
His jaw clenched. βI know Iβm being selfish.β
MCβs heart pounded.
Zayne exhaled, his forehead dropping to her shoulder. His voice shook when he spoke.
βBut I canβt live without you anymore.β
MC felt her chest tighten. βZayneβ¦β
His arms wrapped around her tightly, as if he needed to feel every inch of her against him. βI donβt care what anyone says. I donβt care if they think Iβm a burden to you. I need you.β
MC swallowed hard.
His lips grazed her skin, hot and desperate. βYou said you love me.β
She shivered.
βI wonβt let you go,β he whispered, kissing her neck slowly, deliberately. βSo donβt even try.β
Her breath hitched.
His grip on her waist tightened as he pressed against her βTell me youβre mine,β he demanded.
MC swallowed.
Her lips parted, but no words came out.
Zayne froze.
For a moment, the room felt unbearably silentβsuffocating.
Then, slowly, he lifted his head. His expression was unreadable, but his eyesβ
They were dark, stormy, and filled with something that made her stomach drop.
ββ¦Why arenβt you saying it?β His voice was eerily quiet, strained, like he was barely holding himself together.
MC opened her mouth again, but the hesitation must have flickered across her face becauseβ
Zayne snapped.
His hands suddenly cupped her face, tilting it up, forcing her to look at him. His grip wasnβt rough, but there was desperation in the way he held her.
"Say it."
MCβs breath hitched.
"Tell me you're mine, MC," Zayne whispered, his voice pleading, but underneath itβthere was fear.
Fear that she wouldnβt say it.
Fear that she didnβt mean it.
Fear that she⦠might leave.
His fingers trembled against her cheek, his forehead pressing against hers now, his lips so close she could feel the heat of his breath.
"Don't make me doubt you," he murmured.
MCβs chest tightened.
She hadn't meant to hesitate. It wasnβt because she doubted her love for himβit was because she had never seen him like this before. So raw. So vulnerable. Soβ¦ afraid.
His lips ghosted over hers, but he didnβt close the distance. He was waiting.
Waiting for her to say it.
MC reached up, her fingers tangling into his hair, and she pulled him closer until their bodies were flush against each other.
Then, she whispered it.
"I'm yours, Zayne."
Zayne let out a shaky breath, his entire body shuddering against hers.
She barely had time to react before his lips crashed onto hers, desperate, claiming, and painfully intense.
One of his hands slid to her waist, the other gripping her thigh, hoisting it up against his hip as he pressed her against the wall, his body caging her in completely.
"You hesitated," he murmured against her lips, his voice rough with emotion. "I won't let you do that again."
MC could only gasp as he bit down on her lower lip, punishing, possessive, and entirely Zayne.
