I do really love it when women write graphic and fucked up things. I feel like so often people react to fucked up fiction with “of course a disgusting man would write this 🙄” and it often carries an unspoken (honestly sometimes spoken) message of “a woman’s PURE and DELICATE and FEMININE mind could NEVER think of something this VILE”. Thank you women in fucked up fiction 🫡

At 10:55 pm on April 24, 1974 - The signal went out to the rebels. Depois do Adeus, the Portuguese entry in Eurovision - the signal to begin moving on infrastructure and specially targeted points of power.

At 00:20 on April 25th the second signal came. Grandola, Vila Morena - written by the censored political folksinger Zeca Alfonso - signaled the state media was in the hands of the rebels.

By 6 am the regime had fallen.

Within 24 hours all pockets of resistance had fallen. The regime had killed 4 civilians and wounded 100 more. But not a single person was killed by the rebels.

The 42 year fascist regime was ended.

Democracy and freedom returned to Portugal.

Remember freedom and democracy can be reborn!

Today, we celebrate the 51st anniversary of the 25th of April 1974 revolution for freedom in Portugal.

Freedom from a fascist dictatorship that set us back decades.

Freedom from a dictatorship that wouldn't let us speak freely or unionise.

Freedom from a dictatorship that heavily censored the arts, the media, the books, the music, the education.

Freedom from a dictatorship where women were seen as housewives and property of their husbands.

Freedom from a dictatorship that would send men to fight useless wars in the name of the empire.

Freedom from a dictatorship that would arrest people on the street and torture them.

Freedom from a dictatorship that isolated us and made us ignorant to the rest of the world.

Freedom from a dictatorship that wanted us to live under the guise of fate and church.

Freedom from a dictatorship that hopefully will never be forgotten because, if it is, then we will be back in its policies.

Today, we celebrate freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of art, freedom of religion, political freedom, and freedom to simply exist as you are.

25th of April always. Fascism never again.

Reading The Lord of the Rings and there is a small scene in Fellowship that I cant stop thinking about.

it's after Frodo and friends meet Aragorn for the first time. After they have slept the night in the Inn and are ready to leave, but they learn their poneys are no more. Let loose by the enemy to delay them even if slightly.

And because they need at least one for carrying everything they need for the travel, they decide to purchase one from the most hated individual in the town: Bill Ferny.

It was an old mistreated, malnourished pony that was on the brink of death. And which Bill sold to them for far more than the Pony was worth. But they still purchase the Pony because they have no choice. and this Pony does not seem that important, just a minor nuisance to make their journey slightly more difficult.

And then the book goes onto mention how the old pony, having changed owner, being fed and cared for, becomes healthier, more alive. Capable of actually moving and helping.

And then the book mentions how this pony has to carry Frodo. And how it makes an effort to find the least bumpy path to leviate the journey for Frodo.

And it's the way in which the book shows the kind nature of the heroes, in which even as they are trying to escape from danger, they were able to help this poor creature. and how it gives that kindness in return the best way it can.

The way in which Tolkien says a little bit of kindness can do so much.
