‘Some Arabists say the radical arabic deity «Kāma» (the god of love and desire) “holds the secret” for the historical development of the word [we refer to as] alchemy.’ Alkama [series] is experimentation: close to alchemy, where vital fluids, red and white, male and female, female or male, mix, blend, penetrate or reject. It unites the Humors with gestures like calligraphy. From a game of chance, Set forth unlikely encounters. The process is repeated, each time a new universe appears … Art is an experience of transmutation.
Frederic Fontenoy, artist statement, photographic series titled Blood & Milk.
Doesn’t sound right. Kāma is a Hindu god, not arabic. And alchemy etymologically comes from the ancient Egyptian name for Egypt, Kemet, via arabic.
But then again, art has a licence for fiction, as long as it looks good and sounds right. Maybe it’s a curse that I need my fiction to be believable. ;)
