Twenty four year old Edmund Kemper is led to court on the 30th of May, 1973. It had been just over a month since his arrest for the murders of Mary Ann Pesce, Anita Luchessa, Aiko Koo, Cindy Schall, Rosalind Thorpe, Allison Liu, Clarnell Strandberg and Sally Hallett.
Kemper offers the cameras a lukewarm smile as he marches towards the courtroom where he will plead ‘not guilty by reason of insanity’ for his crimes.
God is far away when we need him.
