Spring Chicken nails
Sarah from Chalkboard nails is hosting a contest where you use dotting tools to create your designs (check out her site for guidelines here) This is my entry.
I think it's a wonderful contest to stirrup some creativity. There are so many ideas that you can use with dotting tools.
My idea:
I had a convo with my coworkers about a planned weekend where we would stay in, bake cake pops, watch some movies and hang out. We then got overly excited about what kind of cake pops to make and how perfect they are for every occasion (really, they are!). Anyways long story short, I figured since spring is coming soon, and I wanted to wear a skittle manicure, these were inspired by Bakerella's cake pops.
I strictly used nail polish and dotting tools to create these.
I wanted to stop at just the chicks but since it was a dotting tool contest, I went all out with the polka dots. I like that they made the chickies irregular shaped and somewhat fluffy! If you look closely, I got impatient and the top coat smudged some of the eyes so they look like they're crying :(
If you have questions on colours and steps on how I made them. Feel free to ask. I will update the post. :P
OPI - Be a Dahlia, Won't You? From Nice Stems! Summer 2011 Collection.
Happy Valentine's Day! Here are my current nails.
It's slightly a bit darker than pictured but it's a super vibrant glass flecked shimmer. I don't know if you can tell but it's also violet-y sometimes in certain angles.
I had a convo today at work and it went like this:
Girl: OH I like your nails, where did you get them done? Me: I did them myself :) Girl: Oh what kind of press-ons are they? They're nice. Me: These are my real nails. Girl: What?! Really? .... Nice polish! Me: Thanks! It's an OPI colour called Be a Dahlia, Won't You? It came out last summer with 3 other colours. Girl: Oh great! Thanks! I will be sure to check that out.
You're welcome OPI :P
On Friday I was watching "Paris, Je T'aime" and for Paris being known as the city of love, it gave me an idea for Valentine's Day.
It also helps with practicing drawing lines and words because I need A LOT of practice haha. I wish I made the heart bigger so I could actually fit the words.
Here's my red jelly franken with Sally Hansen's Glass Slippers sandwiched in between.
I got bored so I decided to franken something. I ended up with a red jelly that I initially wanted to be a vampy bloody jelly but I left it at what it is, a berry colour. (maybe I should add more black..)
I should do a green or a blue jelly next time.
After putting on China Glaze's Electric Beat, I noticed it was a very similar colour to this Stitch figurine that I have on my work desk. (I keep it near my Betta fish as a way of traumatizing him, jk, he's not scared of it.. anymore :P)
So I decided after a few days to doodle on a stitch for fun. U can kind of see the pinky part of his ear on the left side if you look close.
China Glaze - Electric Beat
A periwinkle blue!
Orly - Nite Owl
I didn't think I'd like this colour as much as I actually do until I tried it. It's got silver fine glitter bits that make this typical greige/taupey polish less boring. Reminds me of butter LONDON's All Hail The/Mc Queen except that one's got holographic specs.
Randumb but it's very fitting that I mentioned this now because everytime I see ORLY I think of this guy:
butter LONDON - Knees Up.
Love this red, did these for the lunar new year :)
They're my first attempt at halfmoons. I think they'd look better on rounded tips though.
**That bottle of macadamia healing oil treatment is the best. Saved my hair and the smell is divine.
I know this is completely irrelevant to my blog but for those who want to get to know me a lil, I'd react THE SAME way as Kristen did.
It's a future goal of mine to spend a day with/get to know a sloth.
Minnie & Mickey
The Minnie mouse nail was inspired by my Disney tumbler that I got at Disneyland. I wanted to do a nail mani with that on a finger and decided to add mickey and their gloves.
I guess you could call this a Valentine's Day theme (add hearts!) since Minnie and Mickey are probably one of the most famous couples to last so long. Even Barbie and Ken didn't last..
OPI - Fly (Nicki Minaj Collection)
After my gel polish removal (with the breakage of both my thumbnails :'( ) I knew this was the next polish to try. I got it a while back but finally got to use it!
I LOVE this colour. I don't have anything like it and application and everything was pretty perfect! It's making me consider the rest of the line..
(the bf approved of this colour too! yay)
Gel Polish
Gelish soak-off gel polish in Hot Rod Red
This was my first time trying out gel polish. I got these done in at my aunt's salon in California when I went on a (last minute surprise) Christmas trip there. I like the idea of long lasting polish but for someone like me who tends to get bored of nail colour quick, I got did bored of these. (I know I could have painted over them)
I just felt that they dried out my nails. It did eventually chip plus I picked at it (bad me!) and I ended up breaking/chipping my thumb nails. This was a first because I do tend to pick at polish and it never happened before with regular polish. The nail broke off and it seemed more brittle than usual BUT.. I may try them again someday.
OPI's Planks a lot & Milani's Gold Glitz
I ended up going to both concerts with these on since they were in the same weekend. These were my first attempt to leopard print nails.. I think I did OK.
LOL they're kind of awkward looking the more I stare at it.
*I wanted to use purple for my nails because of Prince but the gold was to kind of mix it up for the WTT concert the next day. To my delight, at Prince's concert he had purple AND gold confetti fall down. Woo hoo!*
Milani's One coat glitters in Purple Gleam and Milani's Jewel FX in Gold
My trial nails for Prince's Welcome 2 Canada tour and Jay-Z & Kanye's Watch the Throne tour.
I was trying to go for a purple (obvious reasons) and gold theme. I didn't keep them because I didn't like them at the time.
Looking back at them though.. I kind of wish I just stuck with these.
name change!
I've been meaning to do this for a bit now... I've decided to change my username! As much as I like being behind "jellynails" it already belongs to another nail blogger (I found out by google, I know vain. Hahaha) So in respect of her blog I decided to go and change mine.
After some brainstorming and a bit of work conjuring magic (and double checking on google with hopes that no one is using this name) meet lacquerbunny.tumblr.com instead! :)
There is a meaning behind this new name (aside from the obvious 2 words). Maybe one day I will share it.
**I have a few queued posts that still have my old watermark on it so ignore that, I'm too lazy to go back to change it hehe**
