Have you experienced incest or covert incest?
Not really. I guess I've once thought someone was attractive and later it turned out we're very distantly related in some way. I wouldn't say that counts. At the same time I also don't really get why it's such a taboo.
What prompted the question?
i think ppl would be a lot happier and better-adjusted on here if they realized that being online on a website is like being in any other casual public space full of people. if u walk into walmart u dont immediately think to yourself “i have to be friends with everyone in this walmart and if not everyone likes me i’m a failure” and u really shouldn’t feel that way online either. likewise if there’s a guy in the walmart parking lot shouting obscenities u probably wouldn’t answer him and that’s literally an exact equivalent to some of the weird stuff that people on here seem to feel they’re obligated to respond to.
That's actually a very insightful point that I've been having to actively remind myself of. I strongly agree.
I have this bizarre habit of expecting too much out of people on social media. As if it was this uniquely intellectual discussion forum and not just all kinds of people saying whatever shit comes to mind with little consideration.
I grew up surrounded constantly by people whom I didn't like, and the internet, in a way, has always been an escape from those people. And when browsing social media in my native language (not English), I do actually correctly expect a lot of stupid, offensive shit to be posted, since it's obvious to me those are just the same kinds of people. Somehow that does not at all register with me when people post in English, since that is not the language that the people I grew up around used when they were mistreating me. I think I have that bias where a foreign language sounds more impressive to me by default since it's something I've had to learn.
To a certain extent people, broadly speaking, for sure have become somewhat more accepting and slightly better informed, which perhaps contributed to the issue by giving me a false, vastly exaggerated impression of progress in society.
I also got less elitist about not liking social media. I'm a computer nerd, I used too look down on anybody that used social media at all. That was the normie use of the tech in my eyes. it was this obvious thing to me where all the cool kids that I hated were on Facebook, so I wasn't touching it with a ten foot pole, and I used to think less of anybody that had anything more involved than a begrudgingly created fictional profile with no photos and under 100 "friends" on there. With time I've gotten much more open minded and much less judgemental about shit like that and I've found that there are aspects of social media that I enjoy myself too. Well, turns out that that came with a truly problematic side effect!
It's really annoying how my mind continues being so stubborn on this one, insisting that the combination of medium and language makes a difference when it really doesn't. Many more people use social media nowadays too. Most people on social media functionally aren't a group that different from most people in general.
And "most people in general" I absolutely would not get along with and I'd never expect to.
So in the name of combating that habit I'm actually going to post this random vent where I mostly talk about myself, because I felt like it, and I'm not gonna shame myself into deleting it. And I don't give a fuck if it's obnoxious or it turns out nobody cares or finds it useful.
But if it does resonate with you, for sure make sure to let me know specifically - after all I'm a narcissist who loves compliments and when people agree with me.
"b-b-but empathy is what makes us human!1!" which is why I am a God.
As someone who can't stand dogs, this also happens to be unexpectedly accurate.
One option is just downright guaranteed to be pure agony and the main thing the other option has going for it is "well it IS less bad than diarrhea" and a more positive disposition, while ultimately being too painfully normie and not fundamentally making any systemic change. And also they couldn't POSSIBLY have made it "everyone gets a puppy or a cat or a roomba", because that would have been "too extreme".

OMG
Things that I knew about: that the mass incarceration of people in the USA , particularly black men, has direct ties to/is an extension of slavery. Things I did not know: this specific shit about Louisiana HOLY FUCK this is evil.
OH MY GOSH????
When activist Sam Sinyangwe was awaiting a meeting with the governor’s office at the Louisiana state capitol building in Baton Rouge, he not
The 13th Amendment provides a loophole that allows for the legality of unpaid prison labor, which is sometimes called "modern-day slavery."
Grew up next to Angola. It’s much worse than you think
I wonder how many people are imprisoned for weed
I’m from Mississippi and it’s like this in my home town. Enslaved prisoners clean roadways, pick cotton, everything they’ve done since before slavery was supposedly ended. What they teach in schools is nothing but propaganda.
Oftentimes I wish I was god or an authority figures that held power over another people because holy shit being powerless when something happens outside your control is such an awful feeling
i'm sick of people trying to fix me.
btw it's so fucking stupid you can be anxious physically in your body even after you've decided mentally you don't care. I'm supposed to be in charge here
"it's just stress" oh thank god, it's just the silent killer that slowly kills you, perfectly harmless, no need to worry
the other thing about Internet dogpiling is that it is just not possible to think clearly during the acute stages. it’s so easy to criticize people for responding defensively or tactlessly to mass criticism but I cannot overstate the degree to which your brain becomes a rat in a trap. I think we do have to temporarily recalibrate our expectations in these circumstances and accept that they do not necessarily represent how that person responds to criticism. the skills for self-regulating and reacting to normal interpersonal criticism are not the same skills needed to respond to viral callouts.
tiktok might actually be more idiotic than tumblr because wtf is this
"narcissists create BPD" ??????
Meanwhile, me with NPD and BPD (a very common comorbidity) 💀
actually there's nothing wrong with being mentally ill. you can be narcissistic, you can be psychopathic, you can be delusional, you can be insane, you can be bipolar, you can be whatever the hell it is you are. you don't need to make your mental illness pretty to be worth being here. the fact that you've made it this far is amazing and you deserve happiness and I'm sorry that the world we're in is too ableist to recognize that.
For other folks with low/no empathy disorders
Like or reblog if your first thought when you hear someone died is “damn now everyone’s gonna be paying attention to that dead person instead of me” instead of “what a tragedy” or “their poor family”
Same girlie <3
Same what? What is the context?
everyone tries to make me out to be some liar but acting out of self interest is the most honest thing i have ever done.
life is far too short for you to not traumatize your parents right back.
