She maintained the centre of attention all afternoon. She loved hearing all the little stories that she had missed during the months since she moved out. They almost competed in telling her the funniest joke or the most beautiful and funny stories about the clinic’s patients. She laughed and was teary eyed every other moment.
One thing struck her though. Not even once was Dorothy mentioned. Rather odd, since she had been in their home a lot over the last year. They talked about Richard, Jenny, Mrs Pumphrey, Charlotte’s family, Sister Rose, Grace Chapman, Maggie, farmers, villagers, everyone. But not Dorothy. As if they had a secret agreement.
Audrey’s back with her beloved Skeldale family for Sunday lunch.
paul hilton and samuel west were both in all creatures great & small and i'm crying because my brain is just ??? what is this slow horses period drama.. im gonna scream and throw up. i want more.

slow horses:
Watched Notting Hill lately and damn I forgot Samuel West was in there! A man I hold in the highest regard, only because he manages to deliver one of my dearest Hornblower lines
Look at this place Mr. Hornblower! No artillery would dare to cross here, and if they did my mama could beat them off with her parasol

Birthday cake | Fortytworedvines
Audrey's birthday cake disappears in an unfortunate fashion. Siegfried saves the day.

“So when will I see you again?”
Siegfried’s voice was a bit frail.
”I guess we’ll run into each other on the street.”
He was silent for a moment.
“Why… why don’t you come for Sunday lunch?”
“But … you always say that a Sunday lunch is for the family?”
“Exactly. Everyone would be so happy if you came. As I said before, you are sorely missed.”
“Alright. If you think so. I’d love to. See you on Sunday then.”
”See you on Sunday.”
He leaned forward and placed a very light peck on her cheek. The warmth of his breath sent a shiver through her body.
Back in Darrowby Audrey realises that it won’t be easy to get back to their every day life after the eventful days in Scarborough.
I'm maybe late for this particular insight, but in this scene the veil is actually lifting for Audrey. Until then she had no idea how to fill out the form for her divorce application, but during her conversation with Siegfried she suddenly finds the means to face the monster.
The veil is literally lifting like the laundry that has been blocking her view. She can see clearly what she needs to do, because he offers her the ear and the opportunity to write it all down.
Excuse me while I cry 😢

“Mrs Price, I assure you,” said Audrey, ”if I had seen any possibility to stay with Robert, I would’ve, because I truly loved him. But I understood after some years that I would pay with my life if I did.”
”Mrs Hall, I think you would benefit from thinking a little less about yourself and instead of the small boy that is the main reason for this meeting. It is my duty to ensure that he will be taken care of in a safe environment. You have offered to be the support person for the family. That requires a steadfast commitment, a personality that is stable and reliable. Someone who won’t shy away from trouble. And you, Mrs Hall, are a divorcee…”
Siegfried and Audrey have left the lovely Hawthorne Lodge and is now at the Scarborough Town Hall. Audrey’s applying to be a support person for Edward’s family. But the NSPCC worker is full of prejudices…
[ID: Arting of a young Siegfried Farnon (of 2020 All Creatures) wearing WWI military dress uniform in low saturation colour. He has no beard and his holding his hat of his dress uniform under one arm. Behind him are two more artings in sepia of young WWI era Siegfried in field uniform. End ID]

WWI era Siegfried redrawn with young Samuel West (although the actor they found for him in the show was incredible and well-chosen - I just wanted to draw this)

For @z-e-l-d-s who sent me the prompt for this story. I'm not sure this is what you expected, but I hope you will enjoy it nevertheless. It's basically "drunk Audrey on a horse", lol, which is now in my firm favourites for possible stories for S7 (I know the writers will let me down, btw.)
"It could have been much worse. Riding after drinking, really, Mrs Hall, I thought I was the irresponsible half in this relationship." "Well, you are," she insisted. "Oh no. Today, you reversed the natural order of things," he claimed.
Feel free to send me prompts if you feel like it!
