He doesn’t remember how it happened. How it started. He just remembers seeing Jay’s back, oblivious as he walks through the underground halls of Benedict Hall; his heartbeat was racing, his breathing tense, his nervousness echoing through the building like a symphony constructed just for Alex.
And then…
And then Jay is under him. His eyes are wide, and afraid, and he’s screaming something, but all Alex can think about is how beautifully his face contorts as he cries, the delicious scent of his blood beading up under Alex’s claws, how he shakes like a frightened rabbit under the paw of the wolf.
He aims for the scarred spot on Jay’s neck, where he’d been allowed to drink from before. His teeth are sharp, and large, and the venom drips out onto Jay’s skin.
Blood spurts from the wound as Alex tears a chunk of Jay’s neck off. He’s not dead yet.
“I’m sorry.” Alex murmurs, blood dripping from his mouth. “I’m so sorry.”
He takes another bite. And another. And another and another andanotherandanotherandthereisbloodalloverhimbuthecan’tstophecan’tstophecan’tstopHECAN’TLETGO-
Slowly, Jay’s heartbeat fades into nothing. Alex can feel the bloodflow grow still.
He keeps tearing into the body, savoring the taste of every morsel he greedily swallows.
“You’re my favorite…” He mumbles against Jay’s mutilated torso, between bites. He nuzzles his nose against Jay’s ribs, relishing the feel of the raw muscles against his skin.
“You’re safe now. Like Amy and Seth. Like Tim, soon, too. And Brian. We’ll be all together again. We’ll be okay again.”
He pauses for a moment, his claws buried in Jay’s intestines, the blood hot against his cool skin.
“I promise.”
Alex eats as much as he can, and then some more. Jay’s torso is empty by the time Alex is done, and chunks of his thighs, arms, and neck are ripped free, torn to shreds, blood sluggishly spilling from the open wounds.
He can’t save any more.
He has to destroy the rest.
…He doesn’t want to destroy him.
Tears land on Jay’s ribs, and he can’t fight the urge to tear one off for safekeeping. He’ll die soon too, of course, but… Alex doesn’t want to chance being apart from Jay in case something goes wrong.
He can’t.
He won’t let that happen.
He’s going to keep him forever, even if he can’t have all of him.
He takes a deep breath.
He drags his claws through Jay’s skin, slicing them into thin little ribbons. Then more, and more.
He crunches on the bones until they’re dust, swallowing what he can manage of the marrow before he destroys them as thoroughly as he can.
He mumbles to himself the whole time, begging Jay to understand. Praying that he knows why Alex has done this, why he had to, why it was the only thing he could do.
“I’m sorry. I have to do this. You don’t understand what it can do to you. What it’s done to me. I have to do this. I’ll keep you safe, I promise. I’ll keep you all safe. I’m sorry. I’m sorry…”
By the time he limps away, mind foggy and stomach full, mouth bloodstained and expression blank, the corpse behind him is barely more than a pile of mincemeat, sitting in a pool of blood.
He does not look as the faceless thing stutters into being in the hallway behind him and takes what’s left of his favorite thing ever.

Hey so, I have something I want to point out, for the silly.
In Entry 80, why does Alex pound on the door after shooting Jay?
Seriously. This is at a time when he is more a husk than ever, all silent and stiff like a corpse rather than a living person. Why would he run after Jay? Why would he try to break down the door in such a frenzy when the Operator doesn't need him to? When at this point, Alex is more like a worn, breaking puppet than flesh and bone?
In the moment Jay got shot, it was the first time Alex's threats ever felt real to him I think, the first time he ever comprehended that Alex could hurt him, and even then it still felt so impossible. Even as his blood pooled over his fingers it felt like a bad dream.
Do you think when he shot Jay, for a moment Alex broke out of the paranoid daze the Operator trapped him in? Do you think he, ever so briefly, was horrified by what he had done? Did he regretted it? Could he believe it ever?
When Jay is taken, theres a long moment of broken, glitched footage.
When it is over, Alex isn't banging on the door anymore. Back to his near catatonic quiet state, he seems to break in with one well placed effort of force on the door, before walking in to turn off the camera. He stops in front of it first though.
Do you think there is anything left of him at that point to ponder the impossibility of Jay's blood being on the floor? He pauses before picking up the camera, he must see it, but truly what is left of Alex Kralie without Jay? That brief panic he felt, that banging on the door, even that is stripped away now it seems. What remains?
