"My leg is broken." Any other time that wouldn't be as debilitating, but when their survival hinged on how fast they were able to get away for literal brain eating zombies? It was practically a death sentence.
"Don't let yourself get got just because I was reckless!"
❰❰ PIN ❱❱ sender pins receiver during a fight/training
Once again, Kates back hits the mat in the training room and her breath rushes put of her with a quiet 'oof'. It wasn't like she was bad, necessarily, but the other woman was obviously better.
But, as was her nature, she couldn't just take the loss. "You keep pinning me like this I'm gonna start thinking you like me or something."
"At least you all seemed to get along. Seemed people were always fighting back at the ol' X-Mansion." Not for the first time, Julian wished the prosthetics, advanced as they were, had some form of tactile feedback beyond what his telekinesis could provide. All he had to go on nowadays was whatever past experience he could draw on, and no warmth at all. The rest of his body could feel her warmth, her weight, but nothing could match the sensitivity of human fingertips, and he wished he could feel it as he moved his hands and discovered a rather surprising array of scars.
Her question made Julian's grin grow a bit brighter, creating an amused wrinkle in his nose and dimples to deepen on his cheeks. Of course he was teasing her, that was the game, wasn't it? "If I recall, you're the one who suggested we make out instead of sit here bored to tears." Tilting his head, he made like he was going to close the gap -- only to swerve at the last moment himself, to press a cheek to hers, to indulge himself briefly in all but burying his face in the cascade of her hair where it fell over her shoulder. "Your move, Hawkeye."
"Would you rather be bored to tears? I can make that happen for you if thats really what you want." She tries to remember what he told her about his hands but the feel of the cool metal warming with her body heat is dividing her attention. It's a fun game, for the moment, fighting for who will break first. Teasing lips and roaming fingers, and the dimples cracking his cheeks and the feel of his nose in her hair.
In the end, though, Kate's patience is what snaps first. Her fingers grip through the short hair at the base of his neck and pull his face out of her hair, until his neck arches back. "My move? Oh, well, if you insist."
Lips press against the bump of his adams apple, marking a line up his throat and over his jaw. Her other hand goes to his face, holding his chin with her finger pressing into one of the dimples when her lips finally land on his.
❛ now have some soup. ❜
"I-"
Kate blinks. "-do I want to know where you got the soup? I already feel like my entire respiratory system is rebeling against me, I need to be sure this soup won't finish the job."
they deserve to know the truth.
"Listen, if I knew one hundred percent that that was actually the truth, I would tell everyone. We just don't know right now and I'm not getting people's hopes up."
You need to eat. I don't care if you're not hungry.
Kate knows he's right. Her stomach had moved past the grumbling and went straight into nausea, absolutely not helped by the scene they'd escaped earlier. Maybe at some point she would get used to rotting bodies but not yet.
"I would just throw it back up and waste it. Just- shit, just give me a minute."
“Bad plan? I call it thinking outside the box."
"Perhaps we should stay inside the box. Maybe the box is a safe space for us! What did the box ever do to you?"
Last time he was 'thinking outside the box' she ended up hanging upside down with her bow hanging in webbing beside her. Kate was not about to go through that again.
He let her take hold of his jacket, though the force with which she pulled surprised him momentarily. He still didn't miss a beat before resuming his needling, a crooked smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
"That you need practice? Sure, I'll take that bet."
Kate fumes silently for a second, almost more at herself for getting so riled up than him for doing the taunting. Almost. The look on his face has her blood pressure rising.
"Would you even know what good kissing is? How do I know that you'd even be a good judge? Where are your references??
