If the lord ever got attached to a toy, he would never be able to let it go
It is my personal head canon that Dadan gave Ace her dark beaded necklace before he left, as evidenced by the fact she's not wearing it here
And now that we're in present day her beads are a different color
Thimble knows who and what Thjazi was better than anyone. She didnât know the details of his half of their operation, by design, but she ran half of it. She was his partner in crime, full stop. When Thjazi was betrayed by an old ally, Thimble immediately went to find him, stabbed him in the eye, and slit his throat.
Laura Bailey has been extremely clear from the beginning, when she told us âThimble is a stone cold killer.â Iâd argue Thimble is a ruthless adversary with vast criminal expertise who only a fool would cross, but in no scenario is she a âgoodâ protagonist unaware of the general nature of what her âmorally grayâ partner was getting up to. Thjaziâs business was her business. Thjazi was a pretty complicated hero, and so is she.
He was not my partner. It was not his job to protect me, and I didnât want him to. I just wanted him to die.
I'll never get over those scenes where Agott has her eyes drawn to Coco and she's illuminated by light like it's a beautiful moment of revelation
(the revelation is that she's gay)
Also, it's interesting that the scenes have variations of Agott looking up, looking down, and looking equally at Coco, yet Coco still enlightens her all the same...
Beldaruit: *covertly and not-so-covertly bends the rules for Qifrey to get him to keep Coco as his apprentice in his atelier*
Vinanna: *basically tells Easthies to go to his room and think about what he did after the guy mind-wiped everyone in his sight, Vinanna included*
Lagrah:
Lagrah: *writes âADRESS NEPOTISM ALLEGATIONSâ and underlines it*
qifrey: not used to getting in trouble, accepts being scruffed without a fight, but does not care for it.
olruggio: super used to getting in trouble. has been scruffed many times before and will be scruffed again. fighting for his life.
vinanna: exhausted despite knowing these kids for all of like, 10 minutes. knows undoubtedly that these two will have to be scruffed again. does not have time for this. blames beldaruit always.
olruggio's lifelong rebellion against authority figures kills me
doesn't care about being scolded for sneaking out, sticks his tongue out like a little gremlin
is immediately ready to sneak out again, ready to lie to their faces
ignores what the king wants him to do so he can do shit for free for the townspeople.
doesn't hesitate to stand up to said king
yells at the cops for being mean to his kids, won't let it happen again.
doesn't stay to help when the wise of friendships asks him to.
like the man takes a fucking stick to beldaruit đ
People have probably thought about this before but I wonder if after the "almost fell to her fucking death" shock wore off Agott was secretly really excited about Qifrey's water dragon spell. Like imagine that you are a huge fan of an old form of magic that has basically been lost to time and has no "practical use" and then you witness your master use said non-practical magic to whoop a dragons ass
Flow of time
there could be never be too much coco fanart
Witch Hat Atelier, as usual, knows how things are.
[ manga panel description: An elderly woman of color speaks to the main character of the manga Witch Hat Atelier. The elderly woman says, "Remember this, witch lady. The people that restrict your learning, only seek to control you." The main character is actively listening with shining eyes. /end description ]
Not pictured: Qifrey and Olly experiancing cuteness agression off screen
the dissonance between ch. 39 olruggio and the typical olruggio we're used to seeing is so insane like his emotional intelligence and social awareness is unmatched in ch.39. he's actually so impressive lmao.
to start he reads between the lines and immediately clocks the issue with turning the glowstones blue. without the princess having to explicitly tell him.
his charm is off the charts here getting the princess to trust his plan and getting her on board to help him sell it. dropping a knee, all deference.... omg....
he shows a crazy amount of confidence to navigate a pissed off king (who has already yelled at olly for helping out the townspeople when the king is the one paying him). like olly's on thin ice here.
you wouldn't blame a witch for feeling nervous in this situation, for being intimidated by this powerful, rich king. however olly moves with confidence and ease. "this will suffice" is bold, assertive. like... hey, olly.... *tucks hair behind ear*
this grumpy old rich man is already pissed and olly's next move is to dance with his daughter lmao what an insane choice. like... he could just step on the stones and show her dad how it works but no he chooses to make it a show. a performance.
it works wonders and he wins over the grumpy old man AND charms the princess. his clever idea works AND he has the ability to sell it.
the princess is so won over by his intellect and charm that she's like pls stay forever. (very real of her.)
which is another potentially awkward social situation, but olly handles it with poise and grace. he denies the princess' request without offending her. they end up on the same side.
that olruggio of the torch mask is powerful as hell. he navigates multiple complex, potentially awkward social situations with grace and poise.
and then you compare chapter 39. olruggio with... this... olruggio.....
bwuH???? bnRGH!??!
whOoosh?
huh?!
ACK???!
like......
I want to emphasize once again that Olly is in a dramatic slice of life where the person he loves most wonât seem to let down their walls for him- sad and easy to empathize with-while Qifrey exists in a torment nexus that not only encourages him to hurt himself, but also is maintained by forcing Qifrey to violate the person he loves most in a manner reflective of how he was once violated. Everytime he erases Ollyâs memories- heâs both retraumatizing himself and is also being made to put himself on the same level as the people who caused him all of this in the first place
I look at Olly and go âaw oh poor Ollyâ. I look at Qifrey and I legitimately start sobbing.
âI wouldâve stayed far away from you⊠The sky's kindest, most radiant star.â
