((So, I have been super super not on top of RP lately. I’ve rather disappeared into the mythical world of the Second Semester Senior Year. As such I might well be missing threads that it’s my turn to reply to (I’ve got one down, but that’s it) so if it’s my turn on something we’ve been writing, shoot me a message and I’ll get to it as soon as I can manage. Which admittedly may not be that soon, since I’m still mired in in SSSY land. But at least I’ll know about it, and you’ll know I know about it. Cheers!))

Narvin turns quietly purple. 

This reaction is… natural.  Yes.  Siblings are meant to resemble each other.  Not that Brax and the Doctor do, much, but… well.  An admirer of… of the bone structure of one Lungbarrow face, yes, might easily be predisposed to some basic aesthetic enjoyment of the other.  And therefore this burst of temporary insanity on Narvin’s part is, while still mortifying, at least comprehensible.  

Narvin scowls her deepest, darkest scowl and presses against the doorframe as she sidles into the narrow doorway, making it absolutely crystal clear to them both that she would do virtually anything to avoid touching the Doctor in any way. 

"I assume you have something to say to me?" Narvin asks, as the door to her flat responds to her isomorphic signature and slides open.  "Otherwise I can see very little reason to find you sitting in my doorway."

"Yes," the Doctor says. She gets to her feet only after Narvin has slid past her, fully aware that this emphasizes even more how little she is wearing (well, by Gallifreyan standards). The reason for that is partly because her regular clothes were in the wash (so the Master claimed) and partly to make Narvin uncomfortable (again, the Master's idea). It seems, so far, to be working.

"I was wondering," she says, "how the latest ref--the latest you-know-who is doing. You know, the one I left you a note about? May I come in?"

She doesn't wait for an answer before following Narvin inside.

  Charley opens her eyes and grins brightly at the Doctor. “That sounds like a wonderful plan,” she says and she tugs herself free of the Doctor’s arm and grabs her hand eagerly. “Come on, let’s explore!” she enthuses as she begins to dash along the grass, pulling the Doctor behind her.

She laughs at the feeling of the cool breeze on her face. This may not be what she was hoping for when she saw the TARDIS again, but it’s perfect all the same.

"Charley," the Doctor says with a laugh. "What's the rush?"

She doesn't mean it, and she's running right along with her, after taking a second to get used to the feeling of Charley's hand in hers. Her skirt flaps around her knees as she runs, and she can't help giggling along with Charley as she laughs. God, she's missed this. It may not always be easy, having a companion, but not having one means she also misses out on times like this, when nothing much matters but the wind in their hair and each other. And it's such a beautiful day for running, or for anything else they like, with the sun and the breeze and the grass beneath their feet.

  "I will be expecting you. As always."

To anyone else, the comment might sound full of sarcasm, positively laden with mockery and disdain. Yes, that is what it would sound like; but if you are listening, if you know the Master (and so very few really do), the you hear it for what it is; a promise, not sharp, not begrudging, and drawling only because to say it sweetly would mean to ruin the nature of who they are, together.

It takes the Doctor far too short a time to finish her tea. She sets the empty cup aside and stands, and briefly takes the Master's hands.

"Thanks for the advice," she says. "And the tea. Sorry to drink and run." Ignoring their relative heights, she leans up to give the Master a kiss on the forehead. "I'll see you soon."

  There have only been a handful of occasions (not times, indicating bodies, but truly, occasions, specific rendezvous and particular instances) when the Master was more inclined toward an after-cuddle than the Doctor. And even with the better inclination, she rarely indulged it. She had a reputation to uphold, of course, and besides, she spent enough time begging at the Doctor’s feet without dripping sentimentality like that.

With that said, there have also been occasions when the Master was particularly adverse to such cozy, contented gestures. They are also not common, but they did occur, in their darker moments when their encounters were brief, angry, and full of bitterness.

Neither of those is like this time.

The Master hums, pets her hand again through the Doctor’s hair, and holds her head gently near her breasts when she half-lifts herself, that way. “Oh,” the Master muses, too lazy now with goodness saturating her metal frame to even put on a weight-of-the-world tone, “I think, if we decide another round is in order, we can address the matter when it arises.”

She leans down, then, to kiss the top of the Doctor’s head.

"Until then…" she offers.

The Doctor lets her eyes slip closed and curls up a little bit more. "Until then," she agrees. Now seems to be a poor time, or rather a poor position, to try to move herself to kiss the Master's lips, so instead she turns her face until she can kiss her breast, instead. Her legs curl up to rest against the Master's thighs.

The sentiment of "I love you" hangs in the air. But the Doctor, as usual, doesn't say it.

Instead, she half opens her eyes so she can reach down and pull the covers over the both of them, so that at least their legs are covered, and says, "Goodnight, Master."

  "Goodness," he says, surprisingly steady, given that the revelation was stunning, and the shock may well be finally wearing off. He was not shaking, not cold, none of the usual symptoms, but this feeling, this regaining sensation in his skin (yes, indeed, his forehead does sting a fair bit) does feel strangely like coming out of shock. "Best of luck with it, then. I certainly hope your universe gets patched up well and soon."

He stops when she does, not missing a beat. He pauses, looking up, wondering at their pausing at this distance, before the Doctor speaks. He glances to her, and gives a soft acknowledging breath. And then he looks back toward the door.

"Ah…" he concedes. "Yes, that… does seem better, then. Better not to trip any wires, I’d imagine. Hate to cause more of a fuss than I already have."

The Doctor smiles at him. "Don't worry." Then she frowns, and says, "Are you all right? It must be quite the shock, crashing a time capsule and finding out you're in another universe all in the same day. The same hour, come to that." She considers him for a moment. "I'm sure someone inside will be more than happy to help you. Wait here."

She resumes walking to close the distance between herself and the door, and knocks. "Hello? Anyone home? It's me. The Doctor. Unless Narvin's got some sort of security set up against me specifically, in which case, it's not me at all. I do have someone with me, though. He's a bit shaken up."

She has no idea if anyone can hear her through the door, but it's better to try than not. She steps back and waits for the door to be opened.

Well. Generally speaking there's a great deal of hostility, but at the moment we get on surprisingly well. Probably better than we ever have, bar the very beginning. She's not trying to kill me, I'm not constantly foiling her schemes, and at the end of the day it's not so much trouble just to share a bed.

  It’s peaceful here, she thinks as she lets her eyes slip shut. She trusts the Doctor not to let her run into anything and she lets the calm wash over her. The sunshine feels soft on her face, relaxing as opposed to the over-bright sun on that blasted island she had been marooned on. This is much better.

"Doctor," she begins hesitantly. "What are we going to do? I mean, your Charley and my Doctor… and us. Oh, nevermind,” she grumbles. They’re supposed to be relaxing and all she’s doing is bringing up things they can’t change right now.

"Well," the Doctor says, taking the question seriously, "I expect they'll be traveling together for a time. If they've any sense. As for what we're going to do... we'll work that out later, I think."

She really ought to be more concerned about the crossing of universes, she knows. It's not something she should take lightly. But the sun is warm on her face, and there is the slightest of breezes just barely ruffing her hair, and the grass around them looks soft and pleasant to lie on, and certainly makes for a nice leisurely walk. Besides all of that, she's with Charley again. Sorting it out later seems like the best idea she's had all her lives.

Spontaneously, she ruffles Charley's hair and smiles at her. "Why don't we enjoy the time we've got," she says.

Age: oh, let's see... depending on the system you calculate by, I'm about 800. Height: 5’5”. Eye Color: (currently) blue. Hair Color: (currently) brown. Sexual Orientation: panromantic. The sexual part is always so difficult to figure out. Species: Time Lord (Gallifreyan). Nationality: er, renegade. Allergies: I can't quite keep track... Fears: being alone. Namely, being alone and it being my own fault. How often do they hurt themselves: that depends on your definition of "hurt." Relationship Status: in an open relationship of sorts. That is, very much taken, but still free for a good flirt every once in a while.

"Let’s walk," the Doctor decides. She adjusts her position so she has an arm around Charley’s waist, but doesn’t immediately start walking. Instead, she takes a deep breath of the air as well, and looks again at Charley.

"You know, I’ve missed you," she says, unnecessarily. "It was… after you left, it was difficult, and lonely. I’ve been better at traveling alone, but I do tend to develop a nasty habit of talking to myself. And aside from that, I assume it was similar between you and your Doctor, but we had grown quite close, by the end." She pauses. "I’m getting overly sentimental, aren’t I? Ah, well." She gives a brief grin and kisses Charley’s forehead. "Never mind. Let’s go."

Charley sets the pace, keeping their walk leisurely as she takes in her surroundings. “We were just friends,” she says, clarifying it to herself as much as the Doctor. “I thought we might—but we’re truly the best of friends.” She shakes her head and sighs. Sometimes she wished they had been more—but there is nothing she can do about that now. Besides, she likes this other Doctor and there’s no use brooding and wasting a beautiful afternoon.

"Mm. It was similar with me. You were my best friend. Well, one of them."

She doesn't mind the slow pace. In fact, she quite enjoys it. It's nice to be walking with Charley again, and especially on such a calm and peaceful environment. Plus, it means that she doesn't jar her arm from Charley's waist with speed.

"You thought you might--" the Doctor begins, before stopping. "Oh. Oh, of course, I--of course." She doesn't finish by saying that she used to wonder sometimes, too, though it's a near thing. She shifts her arm, holding Charley a little bit closer, just about as close as they can get while still being able to reasonable walk.

  He is not expecting to know the name. But then, almost everyone has heard of the Doctor, haven’t they? Wanderer across galaxies and adventurer extraordinaire, yes, that is what they say. So it should not be a shock, should it, meeting the — the woman, herself?

Even so: let us say it is.. surprise, for which he drops her hand almost abruptly. Half a moment later, he realizes he is well on his way to staring, and surprise or not, that simply will not do. (Nor, incidentally, will it do to lift a hand to touch his lips and think too hard about how he just kissed the hand of… well. There have been more surprising things, he supposes.)

Having let go of her hand, he does have to take full advantage of his longer stride, to keep up with her. (Goodness, she does not how to keep up a conversation, he will give her that.) She passes a smile back to him and he returns it, looking faintly sheepish as he does.

"My every apology, for adding another crash to the mix. Not my universe, you said — that is worrisome, isn’t it? That there are any number of people who do not belong here? I’m not exactly well versed in temporal balances or what-have-you, but it does seem like that would be a very strong indication that your universe is… perhaps, less than stable?"

"Oh, don't worry," she says. "It's not that bad. Well, it is, really, but it could be worse, and we're working on fixing it. Actually we have a solution, or at least the beginnings of one, so I suppose the Rani is good for some things. It's nothing you need to apologize for, in any case. The cracks will be sealed up before too long."

The walk to the safehouse seems shorter than last time, perhaps because this time, there is no chance of them being caught. She stops several feet from it, remembering the near-miss of last time.

"I think we should knock," she says. "Rather than just barging in. Narvin's got some sort of security system set up, to keep people like me out, you know, and I don't know if it's been fixed since the last time, so it's better that we let someone inside have the chance to disable it before you head inside."

  People, and cracks, and here I am. Blast it all, you get this far in your life, go on to make a new start in the world, new career, brand new prospects and a new place to go to, things looking up in the world…

…and it never helped anyone at all, to think like that. He takes a deep breath, and a fast nod, and with that, remembers that he did just get battered around and that he probably ought not to bob his head around quite so vigorously as all that.

"No need to apologize," he says, only a little faintly. And, after a few more moments to register it all, she speaks again, and he is a bit more even-kilter, to be able to properly listen and answer.

"Ah," he replies, "of course." And, with that, he takes her hand again, lifting it so as to kiss the backs of her fingers. "Vitale Birragni, my lady. This way, you said—? And you might be—?"

"Vitale Birragni," she repeats. "Pleasure to meet you. I'm the Doctor. Yes, this way, and we shouldn't be too long -- oh, I'm sure you'll have some help with that cut there, too. I doubt Narvin would let the safehouses get away with not having anything in the way of first aid, not to mention I'm sure there are plenty of people there willing to help you. They've all crashed, too, to my knowledge."

She says all this rapidly, as they start to move, not really giving Vitale much of a chance to respond to her name, nor for herself to notice if he does. She spares him a bright smile once she's finished speaking.

Outside the open door is the limp, useless body, and inside there is a note that reads, "For both our sakes, do not come looking for me again."

[She says nothing. Merely gathers the body up and brings it inside. Lays it out on the bed, arranges it so she could just be asleep. Goes to the kitchen and sits with her head in her arms. And does not move.]
