My mind tends to wander at work, and so far today I've been thinking about @ladye11e 's series of fics, Deception and The Best In Me.
Sometimes I'll recite a particular scene in my head, other times I'll think about all the clever ways she's linked the two works, all the little references and throwbacks that clarify bits of the lore.
Today I was thinking about the ending of the previous chapter of TBIM, and my mind thought about the Kenway family, and then HEK Energies, and then the whole later events of Deception between Reader, Shay and Gist, and lastly my thought train came to a fight scene that takes place aboard the Jackdaw.
In doing this, I realised something - my heart positively weeps for Ratonhnhaké:ton.
First we see him lose his father, Achilles Davenport, in Deception, then events occur that has him believe his best friend has betrayed him, and then the same best friend asks him to participate in her deception.
There's all that, and the way his partner and unborn baby from TBIM isn't mentioned anywhere in Deception - which takes place after the events of its prequel. I have so many ideas wbout what could be about to happen and ladye11e and I have such great fun sharing my wild theories - she loves it when I'm stumped and didn't possibly see x event coming. But ultimately, something happens that affects poor Connor.
Honestly, she is a fantastic writer, and I would pay time and time again for the literature she's produced - it's exactly that, I've reread it more times than I can count, as a whole and individual chapters for the smut, I've spent so much time thinking about it when I'm sad and it cheers me up. And she's doing this for a hobby to make people happy.
@ladye11e , this message may seem like it's coming out of nowhere, but I am so so happy to have met you, to have grown from your fan to your friend and to share the experience of your writing. It makes me so happy when you think of me, when you include me, when you ask for my advice or ideas. And it makes me even happier when you like them and use them. I can't thank you enough for being there for me, for being such a lovely, down-to-earth person, for being you.
Please, if you haven't read her work, give it a shot. I personally feel you've created something life-changing, and I can only wish I can be as good a writer as you some day ❤️
