From Wuyin county she traveled south–first by horse, then by foot as she neared the unseen border that weaved between Cao Wei and Eastern Wu. Careful was she in her approach, and though armed, her weapons were not bared–certainly not as she neared a fair sized encampment. Her affiliate attire made her stand out like a sore thumb, and she was certain that despite the lonesome road she traveled, the deep hues of her indigo garments raised red flags in the ranks of defending soldiers monitoring the northern border.
–Though it was with an extended hand that her movements slowed, and with an exposed palm to express her neutrality, she proceeded with forward tentatively.
“I have no quarrel,” she offered, as if words alone were enough, “do what you will and take my weapons if you feel the need, but my purpose here is with your lord, not with you.” There was a rumble from the soldiers, as if insinuating that such an audience was impossible, or even laughable, though she was not dissuaded. Amongst the throngs of irrational, albeit fiercely loyal men, she spied a woman whose physical presence struck her more than any other present member of Wu.
“And what would you do?” Xialiao nodded in Renxiang’s direction before lifting her head proudly, “would you stand idly by and accept the words of others, or try and repair the damage that has been done?”

Tensions had been high considering not long ago, the God of War was slain at Mai Castle thanks to a joint effort from both Cao Wei and Eastern Wu. Their alliance had been one of convenience, and like most alliances as of late, it would inevitably end. However in all of that commotion, Eastern Wu had received several prisoners, but only one had been of note. With that information filed away, Renxiang volunteered to head to the encampment on the northern border on the off chance Cao Wei wanted their prisoners returned. Not wanting her to be by herself, Renxiang’s only son, Sun Shao immediately followed suit. He had waited more than twenty years for something like this. Practice patrols weren’t doing much anymore and he was decidedly just as capable as his mother. Not wanting to argue, Renxiang allowed it and not long after they arrived at the encampment, someone approached.
“Oi, is that what Cao Wei does? Just stroll on into other people’s encampments and make requests?” Sun Shao grumbled as he scratched at the back of his head. In response, Renxiang raised her hand and immediately did Sun Shao quiet himself and step to the side just slightly so Renxiang could meet the other woman face to face.
“Forgive my son’s brashness,” Renxiang began. “...and this army’s wariness. There’s been little time to relax after the death of the God of War, and they seem to have forgotten that Cao Wei is our ally for the time being. Worry not about your weapons being taken, we have no need to fight with an ally.”
“I’m inclined to ask however, what business do you have with my Lord? He is busy at the moment.”
