Juliette leaned back in her seat with a slouching of her shoulders and a smile on her face, “This has to be the easiest question I have heard so far.” She mused before chuckling so delicately.

“My son, Kalon Stillheart, is only five years in age. Nearly six. He is such a sweet boy. Others often spoke worried words to me of his lack of verbal usage, for he is quite shy and silent, but he simply only chooses who to speak in front of. Such a silly, sweet boy. . . All I have ever wanted for him is a safe, warm home, a family, to not have the cruelties of this world tear apart his heart as it has mine. . . But no matter how great a mother’s love may be, I. . . I cannot protect him from everything. . .” She bit the inside of her cheek.

Her fine brows furrowed in silent contemplation as the mage was forced to ponder many a thought. Eventually, a smile broke through her lips and a soft sigh left her. A hand waved flippantly through the air, “Am I suppose to choose only one of many mistakes I have made in my past? There are so many, how can I choose just one?” She inquired with a defeated look to her visage.

“My father used to tell me that a mistake is only a truly a mistake if one learns nothing from it. In the early days of my practices with magic, I had quite a few spells backfire on me and cause quite a few scars and pains. While they hurt deeply and I have a few complications from them, I learned. . . So I can hardly consider them mistakes.” Her gaze drifted, “If I had to choose a true mistake, I would say. . . I made the mistake of trusting some too easily, growing too attached too quickly, and now I do feel lonely from time to time because of it. . . I am afraid those are lessons I still have yet to truly accept. . . And learn from.”

Pointed ears wilted in shame as Juliette was forced to ponder the few times in her life she truly felt envious of another. It was such a bitter, ugly feeling that cut deep into her chest.

Her tongue peeked out to wetten her lips before she forced a dainty smile, “It is not in my nature to fall to the trap of comparison, jealous and wanting for what others have. I have been very blessed in many aspects of my life, but. . .” Her heart fell and despite how much she tried, she could not hide the tinge of melancholy to her freckled features, “It often claims me when I see other families. Whole families, I mean. . . A husband, a wife, children. Happy. Whole. Together.”

Another pause as she closed her eyes and gathered her thoughts, “I was so close to having such for myself - a loving husband, a child on the way. Growing up an old child, I wanted nothing more than to have a large family, a house filled with laughter and memories. . . . But it. . . It just was not meant to be. And so I am grateful for what I have, and. . . Happy for others.”
