The Lagos Yard Sale returns this December with its Yuletide Bazaar!!

The Lagos Yard Sale Discount Event is a shopping avenue for creative brands & small businesses to launch new products get valuable feedback via interaction with customers and generate more sales.

Currently in its 4th edition, the quarterly event is about supporting local entrepreneurs, promoting community living and healthy lifestyle with friends and family, fun and good food.

This December Edition themed “Yuletide Bazaar “promises to be double the fun and festivity in a cool and relaxed atmosphere. Experience discount shopping as in our true nature as there is something for everyone from food, fashion, drinks, arts, beauty, services etc.

#MEETCREATIVE: Chidinma Nwokoro (DJ/Medical Doctor/Photographer)

Our first #MeetCreative for the month of April is no other than the self acclaimed jack of all trade; Miss Chidinma Nwokoro (@chichinwokoro) . She is a Photographer/Disc Jockey/Medical Doctor/Activist to mention a few...

She had an interesting chat with our correspondent on how she successfully juggle all these talents without her studies slipping.

Excerpts

You are a Medical student, a Disc Joker (dj), a Photographer and also a Social Activist. That’s a strikingly rare combination. What’s the rationale behind it?

I do the things I love. I’d rather try something and see it’s not yet possible, than convince myself I can’t handle it. That’s what life is about right? Experience its awesomeness and spread the feeling! That said, they’re connected somewhat; they all give. A medical doctor gives life and comfort, DJs give the gift of music and happiness, photographers give life to beautiful memories and social activists give a voice.

When did you establish ChiChi-Photography? And what do you hope to accomplish with it?

I started Chichi’s Photography in my first year of undergrad. I got good at photography and it seemed like the next best step. The company is very dynamic and I hope to incorporate it into a bigger venture once the time is right. Watch out lol.

Hello Tomi! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do for a living?

I best describe myself as a multidisciplinary designer because I have hands on experience working on projects related to graphics, web, branding and illustration. I build brands, surf the net and create lots of side projects.

When did you first find yourself seriously getting into graphic illustration?

I had always loved art, I drew a lot when I was much younger, so finding out about adobe illustrator and the magic it could perform was like a new dawn to me. I decided to learn how to use it (especially the pen and pathfinder tool) and experimented a lot with it till I could master it.

Are there any themes or ideas that you’re always drawn to when illustrating?

Yes there are. I try to showcase my work in the very simplest form or manner it can be and I try to pay attention to details, because they count.

Where do you hope been a pencil artist takes you to?

I hope being a pencil artist helps me change the way people see the world. I hope it helps people realize beauty in places they didn’t even expect. I hope being a pencil artist takes me to a place where I can inspire people to follow their dreams.

If you could describe true beauty in five words, they would be?

True beauty speaks. Speaks volumes.

Music Monday: 9 Really Cool Nigerian Songs Released in 2015 As we enter into the new year, we look back to the awesome musical projects released in the year 2015 we listened to, loved and would like to share with you, these tracks are from known and upcoming artistes cutting across different genres. Music compilation was by freelance contributor; Seun Osipitan This past year was very eventful music wise, though I listened to fewer full projects this year there were still a lot of great ones this year. I would be focusing on some of the coolest Nigerian songs I heard all of this year. These songs are not necessarily the biggest hits or by the biggest acts, instead they cut across the lines of new school, upcoming, urban, contemporary, alternative, indigenous among other categories. Most of the songs are quirky, in a way alternative and just have their own cool different vibe to them. Smell of Success – LeriQ One of my favorite songs from the TLS album by LeriQ.  The producer teamed up with rap group SDC, Tay and Sute to create the track with a catch hook and witty verses. Click here Gele – Nonso This track by singer and producer Nonso is one to savor especially for the ladies. In the song he attempted to talk his way into the heart of the person he was addressing. He coupled a steady paced rhythm and a wonderful mix of instruments. Another gem from his EP; Alone which he released this year. Click here Rara – Muyiwa This is a very tasteful song by Muyiwa which features Tofa, they team up to tell a story and take a traditional direction telling it. It’s soulful and the vocals are very good. It’s slow and it’s the type of track you would want to relax then unwind to. Clickhere Duro – Brymo More beautiful music by Brymo who for a while has been consistently releasing Indigenous Poetic Music. This song contains his trademark soulful bilingual lyrics and awesome vocals. click here Soke-Burna Boy When I heard the song for the first time I just went crazy, it was a legit fire jam. Highlights of the #ShopinlagosKonamii2015 Instagram competition

Shopinlagos Co. in partnership with Change Africa Project (Konamii football organizers) ran a 4 week long Instagram giveaway competition where participants were encouraged to post a selfie picture with the hastag #shopinlagoskonamii2015 which will be reposted on our instagram page.

Winners were judged by the highest number of likes they can get on their individual repost on our page in which 3 lucky winners will get gift items worth N30, 000 from young fashion designers. The various designers that donated their merchandise as gift items include; Sic designers, Clan Infamous caps, The Vintage Store  (Shopinlagos vintage store arm)

Our Head, Business Development; Mr Chisom Ukaegbu was on ground at the venue of the event to hand over the gift items to the individual winners. Other members of the team were also available to help in the coordination.
