I looked at numbers again and this time it was Kamen Rider.
This will go over the yearly number of works for the 'Kamen Rider - All Media Types' tag, and then individually through every Heisei and Reiwa season. (I did think of including Showa seasons, but the number of works for most of those were so small that I decided it wasn't all that worth it to look at them individually.) For Revice and Geats, I didn't do a yearly overview due to them being the most recent seasons. So I instead did a monthly overview for Revice, and a weekly overview for Geats, both up to the day I started collecting these numbers.

We can see a significant spike in 2014, which I am assuming would be partially due to Gaim. (Since that season was written by Gen Urobuchi of Madoka Magika fame, I imagine it would have caught the eye of many people not previously interested or even aware of Kamen Rider's existence. And, as we'll see later, the season did get A LOT of works while it was airing.)
As for that even bigger spike in 2019... I am not so sure. Yes, we can say 2020 was due to the pandemic. But I don't think there was anything all that interesting in 2019 to bring the attention of more people. Maybe Zi-O reawakened some interest in the previous seasons?
I also thought about how I always see a lot of Chinese works when I'm browsing the Kamen Rider tags. So I decided to look into that as well. And lo and behold:

There *was* a huge jump in the number of Chinese works in 2019. I had no idea for the reason at first. But I ended up running into a research document on the history of Chinese fandom, and there WAS a mass migration of Chinese fandom to AO3, after news came out in late 2018 of a danmei author going to jail for her writing and a wave of censorship on Chinese sites that allowed fanfiction. (The document itself goes over many things about Chinese fandom, but it does at a point refer to late 2018 as the (at that time) most recent wave of censorship. It's a very interesting read imo.)
I have no idea if there is a specific catalyst for the 2022 spike, tho. The Chinese works for this year are almost half of all the new 2022 works!
(I might look into exactly how much of each season's tag is Chinese vs. English vs. Other languages? But that depends on how I'll be feeling about that idea once I am done with *this* post. Plus this was already a long enough tangent...)

It's finally over... Yeah I've been setting up this post for about a week. Like I said, attention span of a goldfish.
Overall it seems many seasons from Phase 2 peak on the year they're airing. (Which makes sense. An ongoing show means ongoing discussion and constant new developments, and thus new ideas for fic spark more frequently.) They mostly die down over time, but have had a pretty big, growing spike since 2019 ~ 2020.
Older seasons are affected by the fact AO3 simply either wasn't around or wasn't all that popular when the season came out. Plus, there's the popularity of the franchise itself, specially in English-speaking fandom spaces.
Oh yea and idk if viewing someone’s live-blogged about zi-o counts as a watch but whatever, after seeing what it ended up being I have no interest in actually watching it lmao
OK SO, i saw someone else’s livetweets about zi-o and IT GOES HARD, like it still doesn’t make any sense, but like i can see the appeal. I’ll give it a go with the movie and stage show, but i still need to finish blade, school hasn’t let me lol, and i heard the blade arc relies on the ending so, i’ll just watch the special/movies first lol
