Enkidu, even in their shapeless, primal form, it was still something that fascinated him. The beast before his eyes was beyond anything humans could ever imagine. A being so perfect and so misshapen could only be part of the same clay that had shaped the world. Now alive and incarnate in a creature.
Gilgamesh understood this entity was not the Enkidu he remembered, the chains of heavens forged to bind him and succeeded in ways the gods had not been able to foresee.
The king petted that large head as if it was a homongous dog or domesticated bear. He allowed him to investigate and “sniff” that gift that both shared millennia ago. Perhaps they would not understand its meaning but he hoped it could somehow stirr some sort of familiarity between them. Convince that creature he was the King and the very reason they were created.
Yet, that way in which they met his hand with that round and featureless snout made the King smile, his expression softening for a moment. He had been so alone for millennia, Enkidu’s death still a painful scar in his memories despite how many years had passed.
“I’m happy to see you, even if you’re like this.” The red eyes narrowed in a strange and gentle smile.
“We could judge this world together, now that you’re in that pure form. And create a paradise anew, for us, where no god would ever dare to harm you.” Perhaps the creature wouldn’t understand, but his gestures had become kind out of solitude.
Enkidu purred under the attention. It felt nice. Right. They still were not sure why they existed (or whether that even mattered), but they thought it probably had something to do with this. For the first time in their very short life, they felt content. (Despite that nagging voice at the back of their head, telling them it was much too soon.)
They did not know what he was saying, but he seemed a little dangerous now. They had a sense that he was not dangerous to them, but they were not sure if they liked it very much. They raised onto all fours and turned away with a great huff.
There was no sense in conflict if no food or mates came out of it- that was what the animals told them, and they were inclined to agree. They were not sure what he wanted from them, but it seemed complicated, and they did not want to be involved.
