Make-It or Break-It: SyFy’s 31 Days Of Halloween

It’s almost that time: October!  More importantly - Halloween!

SyFy will again reprise it’s annual 31 Days of Halloween daily horror movie marathon.  Here’s a list of highlighted feature films from Nerdist and confirmed by SyFy:

Insidious: Chapter 2

Orphan

Cabin In The Woods

Fright Night (remake)

Silent Hill: Revelation

The Last Exorcism

Plus, we’ll get new episodes from mid-season SyFy shows like Z Nation, Haven, and Dominion.  Aaaaand SyFy will again try to make original horror movies (4 this time!)  Maybe they will do as shockingly good as Sharknado did.

The lack of classics and heavy hitters will either make or break SyFy’s eighth annual horror movie marathon.  Hopefully we will get to see some more exorcisms, paranormal HOLY S***’s, and vampires.  Minus Twilight.

TOP 4 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE WATCHING TONIGHT’S NEW ‘DEAD’ SHOW

Here’s a list of things you need to know before tonight’s premiere of AMC’s new show, ‘Fear The Walking Dead’.

The show premieres tonight, August 23rd, at 9/8c on AMC. 

1. New, but Not New.

‘Fear The Walking Dead’ is a prequel show, set before the events of ‘The Walking Dead’.  The story, though, will be different than that of TWD.

2. SCORE: Living 1, Zombies 0.

Biography explained that this show will have less zombies than TWD because of its time frame in it’s story universe.  Meaning that there might be more living people.  But don’t fret, there will still be plenty of flesh-eating “infected”.  

3. New Save File

Comic book die-hards beware: This story is brand new!  You can’t spoil plots from new episodes or whine about differences between the show and the comic books anymore, says this article from Forbes.  Non-comic book fans rejoice!

4. The Won’ts.

An article on THR explained what won’t be shown or mentioned in this prequel series.  Here’s a list:

No crossovers between the two Dead shows.  Dang.

No explanation on the cause of the outbreak.  Keep those theories coming.

Replace the term “walkers” with “infected” or some other non-”zombie” verbiage.

The Puritans Are Coming to Town With ... A Horror Film?

So remember the Puritans?  Colonial New England?  Mix that along with a freaky witch and blood and cult-ish rituals and you’ve got The Witch, a super creepy upcoming horror film.

The film comes from A24 Films, a production company known for recent films such as ‘Ex Machina’ and ‘Under The Skin’ that critics gave the thumbs-up to (1)(2).

The Witch was also won for Best Director at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.  Which is impressive, because this is Robert Egger’s first film that he directed.  You go, Glen Coco.

Lots of comments from YouTube from the trailer (above) agree that this film seems to have a lack of jump scares.  So, as the Puritans would say: Thank God.

This Christmas, meet Eight Hateful gunslingers

Earlier today, the Weinstein Company released a teaser trailer for ‘The Hateful Eight’, the newest bloody action movie by Film Shogun Quentin Tarantino.

The Breakdown

Here’s what you need to know about Tarantino’s eighth (ha, I see what you did there you sly dog) film.  First, its another Western.  But no, it is not a sequel to Django Unchained.  Second, mothaf***in’ Samuel L. Jackson is in it, which makes this his sixth film working with Tarantino.  And third, it comes out on Christmas Day.  Bring your eggnog and footie pajamas to the theater.

“SCARIEST MOVIE EVER MADE”?!

Austrian film ‘Goodnight Mommy’ has been called the “scariest movie ever” by some viewers, according to this article by DailyMail.  And it looks very promising.  Oh, and scary as s****.

Terrence Evans, Texas Chainsaw actor, dies at 81

On August 7th, 2015, well-known actor Terrence Evans died at age 81.

Evans was known for his roles in films such as Terminator 2: Judgement Day, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.  He also starred in roles on television, making appearances on shows such as The Incredible Hulk, ER, Golden Girls, The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, and more.

He is survived by his wife, Heidi, and his children, according to EW.  Ⓛ

Another Romantic Mansion Movie!

The Haunted Mansion meets Thor meets The Woman In Black meets Alice In Wonderland meets Interstellar.

Tom Hiddleston (Thor), Mia Wasikowska (Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland), and Jessica Chastain (Interstellar) star in Crimson Peak, the new Gothic horror romantic film by Legendary and Universal Pictures.  

After watching the trailer, it reminded me of The Woman In Black and The Haunted Mansion.  Maybe they just use the same creepy old mansion (I mean, this is Hollywood!)

Looks a little cheesy, but because Tom Hiddleston is in it, it’s a must-see.  That, and Guillermo del Toro is directing it.  Remember him?  His works include that creepy award-winning Spanish flick, that Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em Robots feature film, and the upcoming third Ring movie.  Yes, the one that was made fun of in Scary Movie.

DARK SOULS III GAMEPLAY!

IGN just released a video of sixteen minutes of awesome gameplay of Dark Souls III from this year’s Gamescom videogaming conference!

Dark Souls III is action-packed with all the lore, gloom, and violence that gamers cherished in previous titles from the series.

Below are some screenshots released by developer Bandai Namco from EuroGamer.  The graphics are stunning:

EuroGamer also notes that this entry in the Dark Souls series seems to play faster than the previous titles.  Returning (Thank God!) director Hidetaka Miyazaki described the game at E3 2015 as “withered beauty”.  Miyazaki also said back in E3 that DS3 will take place in an apocalypse (...finally).  

"One thing that people are already noticing is the faster speed at which combat and action in Dark Souls III moves,” says producer Brandon Williams in an interview with GameSpot.  “It’s a bit faster than previous Dark Souls games but not as fast as Bloodborne. I’d say it’s just right." 

A new feature, known as the Battle Arts system, was boasted at Gamescom 2015 and shown in the gameplay.  However, it will also stay at grass roots with returning things like gigantic bosses, bonfires, and interconnected areas.

DOOM (2015) Trailer: Cool Guys & Badassery

The new Doom game looks good.  Really good.

It’s as bloody and explosive as everyone expected it to be.  And its filled with all those weird, creepy, non-cuddly demons that everyone loves to shoot and beat the s*** out of.  Unlike that movie loosely based on the franchise starring “The Rock”.  Oh, wait ... we don’t talk about that movie.

That trailer was shown at this year’s E3.  According to this interview with a Bethesda executive from IGN’s website, its going to be a fresh and fast-paced game that is perfect for gamers worldwide.  There’s a multiplayer mode, too, which is said to be on new dedicated servers.

Shudder: the Horror-Only Version of Netflix

Yes, that’s right - there is now a horror-specific movie streaming service.

Shudder is a new horror movie streaming service currently in a public beta stage.  The service is backed by AMC, which (fingers crossed) means it is serious about giving you the best horror movies out there.

It boasts oddly-specific categories, such as ‘Hexes and Ooohs!’ and ‘School’s Out ... Forever’.  It puts a new and intriguing twist on the idea of a digital library.  According to their website, they boast a “growing, ghoulish library ... from around the world and across the decades.”   Yuck, puns.  You can preview the titles available in each collection by clicking here.

There are apps, too, on iOS, Android, and Roku ... Whatever Roku is.  

Note: After researching about what Roku is, it seems like a cheaper version of Apple TV.  Here’s a link to their website.

From director Alejandro Amenábar of 2001′s ‘The Others’ comes the new psychological thriller ‘Regression’.

The film stars Academy Award® Nominee Ethan Hawke (’Sinister’, ‘The Purge’) and Emma Watson (’Harry Potter’, ‘Perks of Being a Wallflower’).  Oh, and Cannes Film Festival Award Winner David Thewlis (’Harry Potter’, ‘The Boy in the Striped Pajamas’) also stars - he’s probably not a werewolf in this one, though.

The film is set to come out August 28th in the United States and October 9th in the UK.  Get pumped; expectations are high for this one.
