Avenia

Avenia is known for its natural beauty. Largely forested or divided into scenic farms, Avenia’s soil is rich. Abundant with natural resources, as well as the largest of the three nations, Avenia is a wealthy country. It is no less rich in nature than it is in talent, as well. The nation considers itself the most culturally advanced of the three, in terms of the arts, philosophy, humanities in general. Its weather is ideal for growing and its scenery breathtaking. it is a land of abundance - where abundance is taken for granted. While it has been peaceful internally for many generations - a condition now equally taken for granted - its history is far from pacific. Multiple civil wars have ravaged Avenia in past centuries, not to mention the many external conflicts that have marred its historic landscape. In truth, Avenia is such a large country today because of conquests in past generations, though in truth its warlike past has been all but forgotten by those who live there today...

Religion: a deistic belief of balance known as their god: Altair, a force that passes between all that is alive and flows through each living being

Catalonia

Water is an important part of Catalonian history and culture. Its capitol city is so touched by water that, at high tide, the primary mode of travel through its streets is by boat. Catalonia’s navy is considered one of the best in the world. They are also one of the more scientifically advanced cultures, having long ago mastered water in their engineering. This being said, Catalonian culture has little time or patience for the arts, making them appear somewhat backwater to other nations, despite their advancements, as they lack the niceties that come with cultural achievement. They have also become so focused on progress, they often loose perspective on humanity, on history, on the point of view of others: a fact which often comes to their detriment in the global sphere. Catalonia has been racked by internal conflict as well, which has seen the ousting of their old government and the rise of a new one. In the world of external politics, it is now difficult to place any certainty in Catalonia as their future is so uncertain - will the person(s) who rule today still rule tomorrow?

Religion: they believe in providence and its fateful powers as the sole god, Goargon

Farnley

With its capitol based in the most mountainous part of an archipelago, Farnley is far and away the smallest of the three nations, and one of the smallest in Regencia at all. However, its isles are fertile and blessed with resourceful people. For all that Farnley has the look of a paradise, it is not always an easy place to live. It’s mountains are amongst the tallest in all of Regencia and much of its water is saltwater. Still, the people persevere. Farnley is perhaps the most beautiful of the three nations in question, sporting the same electric-blue waters as Catalonia, high mountains and cliffs overlooking incredible vistas, and nearly tropical plants and growing things. Culturally, it is a middle ground between the other two nations, having often in its history transferred in protectorate status between the two.

Religion: they follow a polytheistic belief system passed down from their ancient ancestors, its chief pantheon led by a goddess known as Amara, a goddess of the hunt; they also believe in the other gods of avenia and catalonia

jonathan has lived his whole life through for farnley

when he was a boy, it was ruled by archduke reginald ix but after his death, his daughters were stolen away to catalonia

and catalonia, itself, then exploded into chaos, leaving the new archduchesses stranded far from home

jonathan has always seen this as a horror and wants nothing more than to restore farnley to its former glory

and even more so to bring it to new heights: it is time that farnely become independent, fighting its own wars, minting its own currency

as good as his intentions may be, however, his methods can err on the side of brutality as jonathan will stop at nothing to achieve his ends

he is not, however, a coward and would readily lay down his own life - as well as those of others’ - for farnley and its archduchesses

to that end, he has recently hired a ruthless bounty hunter, SAMUEL TOWYNS, to hunt down the missing waynflete cousins

tho their whole immediate family was murdered in the catalonian revolution, it is said that two of DAVID WAYNFLETE’s cousins survived

jonathan hopes to find them and hold them for ransom in exchange for DOROTHY and LUCY ARGENCOURT

anna is the chief heiress to her father, the lord of march (her sisters are set to inherit more minor lands and monies but everything else is anna’s)

coming from one of the most prominent families in farnley, anna always knew her duty and was always determined to live by it

not only does she achieve this by caring for her family and their interests as best she can, she does it by helping everyone in the community

she takes seriously the call for the nobility to see to the needs of its populace!!! and believes her prospects are meant to serve others <3

anna has been recently betrothed to ANDREW TALBOT, a man she respects and admires, as well as the most powerful man in farnley…

but for all his qualities, anna doesn’t love him

still, just as in everything, she is quite determined to go through with the marriage as it is her duty

after all, he is such a good man, although her heart currently lies elsewhere, she is sure she could grow to love him

after all, the man for whom she cares is hardly reputable and she knows it could never be

and besides, she also knows she can do so much more good as andrew’s wife than she can in her current position

when anna was four years old, her mother died giving her youngest sister life

with her father’s heart broken (something from which he has never entirely recovered) and two tiny younger sisters, anna did what she could

since that day, she has always been the lady of the house and the mother to her sisters

all she’s ever wanted is to achieve goodness in this world <3

grace keeps to herself more often than not but it’s not so much from shyness as it is from annoyance

it seems there’s always someone somewhere wanting something and grace is frankly tired of it

she just wants a moment of peace!!!!!

it’s not that she’s stingy, she’s just exhausted

and all that being said, notwithstanding, there isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her sisters!!

mostly tho she spends her time taking long walks over the great mountainous passes of farnley where she can be alone

books and libraries form another recourse for which she is deeply grateful

grace doesn’t esp care what others think of her and she frankly tends to be feisty and rebellious!!

she’s grown up watching ppl take advantage of her sister’s kindness and grace is determined not to be the same way

and, most importantly, not to let others continue to mistreat her sister!!!!

kitty is the baby of the shore family and it shows, but she’s not without burdens of her own

kitty’s mother died giving her life and, while her sisters all endeavor to protect her, her father has never let her forget it

rather than being held back by this knowledge, however, this has only made kitty all the more determined to do as much w her life as she can

after all, in a way, isn’t her duty to carry on for her mother? who no longer can?

kitty has the tendency to get carried away!!!!!!!

she is v involved in her own feelings and opinions but rarely remembers to consider those of others

it is not that she is heartless - quite the opposite! - she is simply absorbed in her own path

kitty is v generous, tho stubborn, and would never intentionally do anything to harm another living soul (unless she felt they deserved it)

she is particularly distracted, just now, as her heart is quite in disarray

kitty has long had feelings for PETER TALBOT but knew that his own heart lay another way

she had hoped, however, that with time he might come to see kitty that way

time, however, has done nothing to change his inclination and, while his loyalty only makes her care for him all the more…

since the argencourts were carried off to catalonia, it was andrew’s father and later andrew, himself, who has served as their steward…

attending to any local matters that cannot be resolved from catalonia, making him the most powerful man in farnley

a noble soul, andrew takes his duty both to the archduchesses and to farnley very seriously!!! always thinks before he acts or speaks!!!

there has long been an understanding between the shore and talbot families that someday andrew and ANNA would wed

and, in fact, andrew’s father cited it as his dying wish that an alliance between the two families should be formed

this presents multiple issues for andrew, the first being his comprehension that anna does not love him…

the second being that, despite this, andrew does love anna…quite desperately

tho he has no desire to push her into anything, particularly something as monumental as a marriage, he also sees their wedding as his duty

and andrew does not know how to proceed

his life, however, is not merely complicated in love: politics, too, whisper at his ear

not only regarding the argencourts as his rulers, but also as surrogate little sisters, he wants nothing more than for them to come home

recently, JONATHAN HALL has begun trying to talk andrew into his way of thinking: to sunder all ties w catalonia and become independent

while that sounds glorious, andrew also knows it would most likely mean war, and he wonders how a nation wo an army could possibly win…

he has no love for the waynfletes but the godolphins were always good to farnley and he sees that as another alternative altogether…

Kate!! Every single character has a title! How??? on earth???? should my character address them?????

So, as always with my rps, anything written in an in character comment immediately becomes canon and, because we’re building our own world here...anything goes!! So basically don’t worry about getting it wrong you won’t bc...you can’t <33333 That being said, guidelines are always helpful, so if you’re looking for a little guidance, for this rp I always turn to Regency England. If we’re taking that s our jumping-off point, you’d address our various princes (or our princess!) as Your/His/Her Royal Highness the first time and later you can just drop into...sir bc HRH is a loT to say and even Regency England gets that ;D

Additionally, here’s an awesome link that talks all about this very issue, taking into account many different titles! [ x ] It should be noted that Earl, Count, and Lord are all equivalent titles and therefore the rules for each of these are more or less the same ;D

Ok, but what ~is the hierarchy of rank????? Who outranks whom????

I’ll start with Avenia as my main example, bc it is the most straightforward:

King | Queen

Prince | Princess

Duke | Duchess

Marquess/Marquis | Marquess/Marchioness (marquess is a unisex title and belongs to whomever holds the title regardless of gender and, for example, if the marquess is a male, his wife is a marchioness; whereas both marquis and marchioness are gender specific but are the same rank; marquess is an equivalent rank to both a reigning marquis and a reigning marchioness...it’s...weird ;D)

Count/Earl/Lord | Countess/Lady

Viscount | Viscountess

Baron | Baroness

In Catalonia and Farnley this is slightly different, in that these countries are ruled by a prince or archduke, respectively, and do not have any higher rank. Therefore, in each of those nations, that is the highest rank and the rest, starting from that point, are inferior to them. Thus, the Prince of Catalonia and the Archduke of Farnley are roughly equivalent to the King of Avenia, as all three are the respective rulers of their countries. Whether or not they are perceived that way has more to do with the characters involved rather than their titles.

Hey guys so good news!! Market Days is OVER! The months and months of prep went off smoothly and the event was a huge success AND now I also have some more time back!! Granted, I’m also in the process of moving, so there’s that, but I’m hoping to revive LoR now that I have some free time again <3

To that end, I’ve developed two tiers of new characters, the first batch of which (consisting of six characters!) I’m planning to release tomorrow evening, hopefully, so keep your eyes peeled for them <3333 These new characters will also be in Caermara for the coronation, so that everyone is together ;D

Frequently Asked Questions

As of the start of this rp, where are the characters located?

All of the characters are presently staying as guests of Queen Arabella at Glorianus Palace unless otherwise specified by the rper in question. If the character in question is not staying at Glorianus, they are at least (for the present) located somewhere nearby in Caermara as all events (unless otherwise specified) celebrating the coronation also take place at Glorianus. Glorianus is located in Caermara, the capitol city of Avenia.

Can you tell us a little more about Glorianus Palace?

Certaintly! If you’re looking for inspo in terms of what to expect from Glorianus, it was primarily inspired by [Blenheim Palace] in England. Glorianus is an airy and expansive palace, but a palace notwithstanding. Surrounded by parklike gardens that are walled in by a wrought iron fence complete with an elaborate gate (reminiscent of [the one at Versailles]), it is also as private as a anything in the center of a city can be.

Ok, what about Caermara?

Outside the walls of Glorianus one finds the bustling city of Caermara in full throttle. Caermara was somewhat based off a combination of Paris and Rome, in terms of aesthetics, if you’re wondering what to expect from Avenia’s “White City.” And, as to that, all the stone in the area is a signature white/cream hue of color, which is the cause of the city’s nickname. It is a lively city with examples of every pleasure a city could afford during the Napoleonic era. The great Tyvres River, which flows to the sea, courses through the center of the city much like the Seine through Paris or the Tiber through Rome.

Most of the great estates represented by the Avenian peers who attend the Queen are located far away from Caermara, somewhere in the country and certainly in the region that belongs to them. That being said, they may of course also keep city houses in Caermara (though whether they choose to occupy them or Glorianus during the coronation festivities is a different question entirely and obv up to the individual rper <3).

This is a map of our three key nations in Regencia. Avenia, with its capitol of Caermara hovers poised to the north, while the peninsular nation of Catalonia with its capitol, Valliere, lies to the south. Situated nearby, the archipelago of Farnley hovers off the Catalonian coast, its capitol, Carhall, located on the largest of its isles.
