Welcome!

This blog is run by LTWC tutors and is dedicated towards encouraging student writing and individuality. Our mission statement is to create better writers, and we hope to accomplish this by having an informal place to showcase student creativity. 

Submissions: 

 Submissions to the blog must be anonymous for the following reasons: 

To protect student identity 

To allow students to publish submissions without feeling nervous about having their name attached

The last thing we want to do is take away from your creativity, so you are welcome to use pseudonyms and pen names in your submissions.

Guidelines: 

You have to be a Lane Tech student to submit.

Please keep content reasonably inexplicit, as we do have to operate under CPS radar.

We will take submissions about heavier topics, but a trigger and content warning must be provided with submissions. 

No targeted or hate speech. This is meant to be a welcoming and safe place. Us admins have zero tolerance for bigotry.

You are absolutely welcome and encouraged to submit more than once. 

You are welcome to provide author’s notes to your pieces, since you can’t have your name attached.

It does not have to be creative writing! We will accept any creative mediums including essays, art, music, anything you can think of.

Informal November Prompts!

Here are some prompts that writers and artists can respond to this month. Send us submissions and we will publish them on the blog! Feel free to use these prompts as loosely as you wish.

Create something from the perspective of a dead person.

What’s the difference between being immortal and being undead?

Ever seen Over the Garden Wall? Write something inspired by it.

November is aviation month so write about planes.

When is the appropriate time for the first snow?

Thanksgiving??? Thoughts???

November Writing Submissions

Submissions to the LTWC Tumblr blog for November are open! You have until 11:59 PM on Monday, November 15 to submit a piece of writing for these prompts. Anything submitted after that time will not be considered for LTWC website publication. You may submit pieces for Tumblr blog publication (the informal prompts) after this time, though! Your submission may be ANY kind of writing. Submissions must be anonymous. November prompts are as follows:

Include a cemetery in your work - as a setting, a character aspect, a plot point, etc.

Dialogue prompts: include one of these lines of dialogue somewhere in your writing, and use them to create imagery, add rhetorical effect, etc. There are 4 dialogue prompts:

“No, I did NOT accidentally dye my hands orange!” | “This house doesn’t LOOK like it has dead people in it.” | “I watched them from the moonlit window.” | “A pair of eyes glows softly among the drifting leaves.”

November is Aviation Month, so incorporate aviation-related topics!

You may choose to ignore the prompt list and write whatever you like - the list is just to get your ideas flowing and give you a starting point.

When submitting, follow the submission guidelines in the “Submissions” post. LTWC tutors pick from submissions and publish a few pieces of student writing on the LTWC website. If your submission isn’t published, it doesn’t make you a bad writer! We can only publish so many pieces and Lane has tons of great writers.  Again, make sure your submission is anonymous, although you may include a pen name.

Submissions

If you wish to submit anything to the LT Writing Center blog, there are two ways you can do it:

1. For those of you who have a Tumblr account, you can submit a post by clicking on the comment icon, then clicking on “Submit a post”. Remember to format your writing or art before you submit and add any tags you want. Shoot us a private message about how you wish your writing to be posted!

2. For those of you who don’t have a Tumblr account, you can submit your writing or art by emailing us at [email protected] and sharing a google doc, image, or pdf. We will then post it to the blog for you. In the email, include how you want your submission to be formatted, any tags you want it to be under, and any other notes.

If you are submitting for a prompt, include it in the submission so we can showcase all your creative responses!

We may ask you to prove that you are a Lane Tech student privately, but your submissions will always remain anonymous.
