Dramatic is the name of the path which exists among Botanik Park. It has a very organic form to reach the desire of creating flexible places for visitors. They can sit, lie down, climb, jump and list goes on. And I think, it can become a very personal adventure that they will generate themselves.

ATAKULE DESIGN PROPOSAL | FINAL JURY | AREAS DEFINED ON FIRM GROUND

According to critics, we decided to define different and flexible areas. These areas can be found by following the traces in path and creates various alternatives for children and adults. Mainly these areas are

CLEAN : Water element, dynamic by cascading then peaceful by collecting

SOFT : soft ground with variations on levels, creating/defining an area for early agers

GRANULAR : Area full of sand, reintroducing a traditional park element, encouraging art for children and adults

ATAKULE DESIGN PROPOSAL | FINAL JURY | SOUND ELEMENTS AND OUR PRECIOUS

As I metioned in my previous posts, we used some of the verticals as sound elements. We organised the sound characteristics according to create a uncommon experience. With the inspiration of piano, we decided to use high pitch sound elements in shorter elements. Therefore, people can feel the continuous differention while experiencing the path.

We produced a piano model combined with vericals in different lengths to express all these.

LIGHT ELEMENTS | SOUND ELEMETS | UPRIGHT STAIRS

We had the idea of having vertical elements to represent the urban life, later on we decided to combine these elements with the idea of having a path. In the series of long meetings, we improved our ideas and formed a path which is defined by our verticals. In our path, we wanted to make people experience many things. Therefore, verticals started to be specialized. They became light and sound elemets. Also they have stairs to reveal the vista. The path is an adventure which contains traces from different areas “clean, granular and soft” and enriched by specialized verticals.

To express the dual entity of our project, we decided to use some strict and some very organic forms. Clay is our preference to express the ups and downs; oblique and straight ways. We believe that our path will reflect the continuous but spectacular and surprising characteristics of nature.

At the same time, we are working on our firm ground which will reveal activities genlty and generously.

INSPIRATION | SAND ART

Combining traditional park definition, its components and activities with the way of metropolitan life style, the needs and expectations of residents became our way of improving our project in a way. Sand is one of the examples of it : we see sand in lots of park but generally, it is only used by children.

Why don’t we present this very ordinay element in a new definition?

I really enjoy case studies and finding concepts for projects. After the first term of second year, I realized that these two are naturally related. Therefore, when I see the title of this article I said ‘It is what I need’

In this article case study is defined as describing and/or evaluating a project or process. Francis explains that case studies which are beneficial for teaching, research, practice, theory building, criticism, communication and outreach are used in various professions and landscape architecture is one of these. He adds: ‘The case study method promises to be an increasingly common and effective form of analysis and dissemination for landscape architects.’

He explains the basic criterias for analyzing a landscape project.Some of these criterias are as such :

In a way we can estimate these but seeing them together and reading their definitions from the perspective of a competent was nice. I believe that after reading it, I can criticize my own projects and also the other projects in a better way.

INSPIRATION | GUILLAUME AMAT’OPEN FIELDS

For Guillaume Amat's “Open Fields” project he placed a mirrored stand in various landscapes, reflecting the opposing environment back within the image to create a double interpretation of the surrounding scene.

Amat wanted to concentrate on the double interpretation of the landscape seen outside and within the mirror, working on the concept of territory as space.

Independent curator and writer Paul Wombell compared this series to the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice saying, “With the use of the camera and a mirror Guillaume Amat has made photographic images that simultaneously look forward and backwards. They create a strange dreamlike landscape where buildings and figures float in the center of the picture and suggest that he has two sets of eyes, both at the front and back of his head. Orpheus would have been impressed.”

We continued to try to emphasize different characteristics of two sides of our study area. To reach this purpose, we decided to use two different paths: one is a stone path which is accompanied by nature, trees and peace; the other one is the path created by level differences in our ”tetris ground”

The slope of the land is the biggest challenge up to now, we should find a better way to solve this problem in next step.

TERM PROJECT

Our term project in Landscape Design course is Reprogramming an Urban Field: Landscape Design Strategies to ‘Atakule’.

We are supposed to make a site analysis and synthesis, a precedent analysis and a design proposal during the semester. Also we were asked to form a group of 5 for the term project. DEPENDENCY | VISTA | BEHAVIOUR | ENCLOSURE

Here is the reflection of my observation while winter is practically coming. Spaces which were created by vegetation are not remarkable anymore. Buildings are getting dominant by means of visibility and usage. People are tend to stay inside of the buildings and if they need to go outside, they generally stay close to the buildings. The relation between people and vegetation become only visual, not tactile anymore.

We tried to make bigger sketch models of some parts of our proposal to improve our ideas. We got feedback about making the land under our vertical elements firm ground. To deal with slope in that area, we decided to use some different levelled blocks. We need to decide how the relation between ground elements and vertical ones will be.

In addition, in desk critics,I think we got a very important and stimulating feedbak: If such an valuable area will be gifted to public, it need to be very attractive by containing possibilities for everyone. I believe that we need to discuss about how to create a flexible and ageless project which everyone can find someting for themselves.
