the thing abt airport novels is theres a lot of financial incentive towards pumping out vapid swill rn. and not just in writing - look at our own furry art space, shaped by the pressures of the social media churn (ur art will be looked at for 2 seconds max and any meaning tht cant be communicated in that time will be lost) and the commissions grind (have a unique artstyle but not so unique tht its "off model" to clients)

these are also the pressures that brought us "ai art" btw

i cant be mad at ppl for going w the flow, shared context for humans is like water for fish and theres not much reward for fighting the flow

and yet. i have to wonder what furry could be if everyone was making the kind of art they truly want to be making. i think abt. i think it was glopossum? saying getting to do comics for a living is nice but she would rather be making ceramics. i think abt how many ppl are doing art as a consolation prize for less accessible or higher effort media like games or film or animation or comix.

i think if i had the resources i would be doing a lot more sculpture
