how many centuries deep is your wound?
Adonis, from “Unintended Worship,” If Only the Sea Could Sleep (Green Integer, 2003)
itssethtalbot:
Seth didn’t know what to say to her. Unless Cassidy had legitimately tried to kill Lara or one of the others, this was their sister and she didn’t deserve to be treated like that. He wanted to side with Lara but truth was, from where he stood, it sounded like the older Talbot girl was the one who had been wronged. He wouldn’t say any of that out loud though. He’d keep it bottled up like he always did. When the glass was all out, he stepped back and went to the sink to wash some of the blood off his hands.
“I didn’t want this Seth”
How could he believe that? Lara was the one sibling he looked up to the most. She was the one he could go to for anything and she never judged him. He loved all his siblings and he trusted each other to some extent but she was the one he felt closest to. Now it was different. They weren’t the same. "I don’t know what you want me to say,“ he said shaking his head, not able to look at her. "Cassidy has always been headstrong. We’re Talbots. We’re all stubborn. Whatever she did, you didn’t have to do that to her.” The faintest of growls came out before he could stop it. "She’s our sister.“
Lara didn’t blame Seth for his ignorance, nor his sympathy for Cass. He hadn’t seen her-- hadn’t had her claws sinking into his face with the feral fervor of a wild animal. But he didn’t need to. Lara had done what she’d done to stop that, yes, but to protect others-- the pack members who’d have done everything they could’ve to stop Cassidy and they’d have paid the ultimate price, she was certain of it. “If you think you have to tell me that, Seth, I’m not sure you know me at all.” Her tone wasn’t harsh, her voice wasn’t loud but it was a disappointed tone Lara hardly directed toward her younger brother. If he thought she’d done it because she didn’t weigh any other option, then he really didn’t know her. But then again, maybe none of them knew each other after all. That would’ve been the great irony of the Talbot pack, wouldn’t it have been? Strangers amongst each other, trying to unite a group of wolves with their loyalty and devotion to each other. “If you think I took pleasure or am happy with what I had to do, then you definitely don’t.” Lara said, pulling her shirt back down over her back, clenching her jaw as she stood, bones aching, face burning-- all of it a reminder of what had just transpired between her and her sister.
trisxtalbot:
A silence fell between them, filled only by the sounds of their walking and of the forest around them. When she finally spoke, Tristan allowed her the time, keeping quiet as they moved. As her words came to an end, he finally took a moment to look over at her. A sense of regret filled him in that moment, for ever allowing a divide to form between them. He had once been close with so many of his siblings, but lately it felt like that number was dwindling down. “I am as good as I can be, with all things considered.” He stated sadly, knowing he had no right to feel anything other than regret. His actions had not only hurt him, but their youngest sibling as well. And his actions had hurt her far greater than he could imagine. “And you?”
What could she say? She knew they’d never be close again, at least that’s what it often felt like. They all went their own way at one point or another but she’d hoped they could have remained bonded. Except time was cruel in that way, ripping them apart instead of drawing them closer. She nodded at his words before shaking her head, answering more honestly than she’d planned. “I think I’m sad-- which is strange, isn’t it?” Did they even get sad anymore? It seemed like such a mundane way of describing something that went far deeper than what could be verbalized. It was a hollowness-- looking at their family and seeing brokenness in each of them, unable to reconcile any of it. “I didn’t think we really got sad anymore....not in the way-- you know, others do but I guess I am.” She lifted her shoulders once more, “I wish I could fix this. I’ve tried, Tris, I really have.” It just wasn’t good enough anymore. Though, Lara wondered if it ever had been.
cal-rook:
“That is very true. You’re a wise woman, darling Lara.” Compliments never hurt and Cal generally liked to lay it on pretty thick. “I would, in fact, but only if you truly mean it.” He smirked a little as they both knew she wouldn’t. “I’ll have to try harder to do so, then. I do so love a challenge.” His eyes glittered mischievously as he took another sip of his drink and then turned it into a much longer sip as he saw how quickly she was downing her own. “I wouldn’t be so sure of that. I doubt you’ve spent the entirety of that long immortality pursuing hedonistic pleasures whereas I’ve spent a good portion of mine doing so. I bet there’s a few things I could show you.” He grinned at her. Cal loved this kind of game.
“Wise for stating the obvious?” It was a truth she imagined he already believed anyway. The compliments weren’t necessary but were amusing to someone who’d heard it all at some point or another. “Maybe one day it’ll be different but where’s the fun in everyone believing you’re a saint?” Toasting the dead, lamenting their loss-- it didn’t seem likely. The alcohol was barely working but she was beginning to feel that steady buzz and it was more than a little welcome. “Is it so hard to believe that I have?” She arched a brow in his direction, this wasn’t entirely her but Lara wanted to forget, even for a moment, who and what she was-- what she’d done. “You know, for someone so confident in your abilities,” she began, reaching across and plucking his drink from his hands before downing it herself and giving him an expectant look, “you seem like a lot of talk, Cal.”
sebastian-talbot:
“Is that what you expect? To sit around for centuries hoping it will be fixable one day? I’ve grown rather tired of sitting around and waiting rather than doing. Maybe doing would have prevented the murders. Perhaps doing would have prevented Tris from getting himself into that situation. if we had all been there for him, rather than only one.”
“I’d appreciate it if you didn’t lecture me about doing, Sebastian. Whilst you’ve been content to sit on the sidelines and only now get involved in our family’s life, I’ve been here. I’ve always been here and whether or not you see that isn’t my problem anymore. You can’t be there for someone who’d rather you gone.” Lara had always tried to reach out to her siblings but there always seemed to be an impossible wall to breach just to get close. And she’d tried with a patience most wouldn’t have. But the original was tired and she just needed a break from trying to fix things. From trying to keep her family together because it seemed like no matter what she did, nothing mattered in the end.

“If I give you to the whole bar, Gio’s gonna fire me. I’ve been busy,” she responded as if to shrug off her lack of appearances around town lately. Most of it was for her own protection and the rest, well, the salacious details of her recent reunion were better left between a hunter and a witch. “Bottom’s up.” After taking a generous sip of her own glass, she twisted it between careful palms in quiet contemplation. “What’s new in the life of Lara Talbot?” Deflection from her own issues was always easier, though not necessarily healthier.
“I’d compensate him but let’s just go with a bottle for now,” Lara said, downing her drink easily and reaching over the counter to grab the closest bottle, filling her glass again. “Same old, same old, pun intended,” she said, this time only taking a sip of her second glass, “fighting with my siblings, my siblings fighting with each other, absent brothers, brothers who want to fix everything-- nothing that probably hasn’t already been passed through the grape vine. This town loves to talk.”

I still remember you as a little girl who overwaters plants because she doesn’t know when to stop giving.

Lara needed air. She needed to get away from the buzz of town, from hearing, smelling and just sensing too much. It’s why she found herself on a run through the forest, having deviated from the proper trails a while back. The peace that came with the nature surrounding her was more tangible than it had been when she started her jog. The sun had set as night settled in but Lara didn't mind in the least. The original feared little whereas another might have had more reason to worry being out so late. It's why she decided to traverse to Overlook Point and it's surrounding area. She needed to stop thinking, to stop worry about everything.
But, as fate would have it, and it usually did, the moment Lara heard the semblance of a cry for help-- she couldn't ignore it. She wished she could have but it went against every fiber of her being to do so. It's why she was there in as close to an instant as possible, coming to a clearing before Overlook Point. Lara stopped short when she saw three teenagers stand terrified before Noah Carmikael. They were unmoving despite the horror in their eyes, illuminated by the night sky. "Noah..." she began, memories of having heard he'd flipped the switch months ago returning. She'd gotten on well enough with him before he'd done so but also knew what he was like after. "Step back now." Her tone was definitive and unwavering as eyes danced between him and the others, calculating how to get to them before he inevitably tried to. @charminglysinful
bishopxdanes:
“Someone once told me it was rude to comment on people’s ages is all. You sure? Usually something happens and before we know it; it’ll be broken. Simon — that’s your brother, right?”
“Well it doesn’t really bother me, so don’t worry about it. Positive. If it breaks, it breaks, it’s not like we don’t have several dozen others. Promise. Yeah, my twin, actually.”
lenoredauphine:
“How much would it take to get you as wasted as I plan to be?” She inquired without looking at the other woman, pouring a matching glass before her friend even asked for permission. Even during self-imposed isolation like tonight, a significant part of the witch still loathed being in solitude. “Were you looking for me or just passing by?”
“The entire bar, or around there but-- we can start with this,” Lara said, nodding at the drink handed to her. “Both, actually-- usually see you more and could use a drink so...here I am,” the original said before bringing the glass to her lips, “cheers.” Though it seemed irrelevant given both the expressions they wore tonight.
sebastian-talbot:
“So what? We fall apart? We go our own ways? I do not believe it was meant to be that way. We are supposed to stand together as a family. Are we not letting the enemy win by separating?”
“Not everything can be fixed, Seb...not right away. And we’ve got to accept that. Because of how much time we have...sometimes we need more time to move past things-- to forgive or not to. Did you think it would be as easy as snapping our fingers and being a family again? We haven’t been a true family in ages...and even I don’t know how to fix that.”
lycanthropedarius:
“Alert the hunters — Lara Talbot can be killed eventually by sitting on a couch.” it was an attempt at a joke, even if the joke itself was a stupid one. “Huh, who would have thought we would go the way of the Jensen’s so quickly. Tell me; have they invented a way we can shower without actually showering? Because I’d kiss the person that figured that one out.”
“If only they’d know that was my kryptonite-- I might’ve been done in long ago, just put me on a couch and I’m a sitting duck, literally.” Lara laughed a the thought, hand skimming the pillow by her arm absentmindedly. “Once 2020 hit, technology just took off-- pets can talk now too. You don’t like showers? Honestly, I’d kiss whomever invented them. Waiting for water to boil just to take a warm bath was a pain and don’t even get me started on bathing in rivers or carrying buckets of water. Believe me, showers can stay.”
simon-talbot:
“Don’t be so uptight and prim. Where are these missish manners coming from? You’re not some doppelganger pretending to be my sister, are you?” Simon poked Lara and sniffed her. “You smell like her. Hmmm … Also what’s this I hear about you and Cassidy? Is it true you knocked her around? No one ever tells me anything.”
“Shut up,” she said, making a face and poking his cheek, “I’d hope you’d recognize a doplleganger if I was one-- otherwise I might have to untwin after all these years,” Lara teased with a grin before it faded a bit and she sighed, “yeah, we got into it-- I haven’t talked to her since.” Simon knew how much she’d poured into their youngest sister, a maternal figure more than anything to the youngest Talbot, so it went without saying that Lara was still upset with how everything had happened.
trisxtalbot:
There were no ill feelings towards Lara, for anything that had needed to be done. A rift in the family needed to be avoided at all costs, even if that meant pulling out extremes. He nodded his head briefly, understanding that time spent in wolf form was certainly needed after stressful situations. “No, I don’t mind at all.” There was a gentle smile, brief before he started in the direction of the manor.
She was quiet for a moment, falling into step beside her younger brother. As they walked, an owl hooted in the distance and spring crickets made themselves known in the dark. “How’re–” how did she ask the most obvious question without having him shut down or shut her out? “...are you okay, Tris?” Lara finally spoke, “I know there’s so much going on and I know none of us really are but...I just...I’m sorry.” For a lot. For how their family seemed to be breaking and how she couldn’t fix it and didn’t even know where to begin.
sophiavos:
“You are an ancient and powerful immortal werewolf, darling, it would be hard to miss. Not to mention you have amazing skin tone. Really, I’m jealous.” Sighing, realizing that there was no way out of this, she threw her hands up. “Very well, but when I have grubby hands gripping my skirts and informing me that they’ve shredded my snowdrops, I shall know who to blame. I was, but I was a strange child. I bossed the other children about and made them do my bidding. If your children had that kind of spark, I might be more inclined to encourage their interest. You’re really not, dearest. It shows. There’s just the tiniest bit of tension in your forehead. I know a man who’s excellent at relieving tension. I’d prefer the third week of November, but fine.”
Lara laughed at the imp's words, both politely flattered and amused. "It's certainly nothing you don't have yourself, Sophia-- truthfully, your complexion is as lovely as any. Besides, I imagine you know the best secrets and which plants take care of it most." She figured that the imp could actually do quite well in the beauty industry, though Lara rarely paid mind to it. Everyone acted like they were looking for the next natural treatment, anyway. "Don't worry about it–- there will be no shredded snowdrops nor trodden flower patches. I promise. Well, I've definitely got quite a few leaders in my class but we don't exactly encouraging bossing around their peers. I'm sure you know more than a few, Sophia, but I'm not in need of matchmaking, though if I ever am, you'll be the first person I look for." Though, they both knew that would probably be never. "Yes, well, maybe along with this trip, I'll plan one for the fall too-- that way you get to spend that much more time with the children."
